Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Regarding a Charlie trade I’d play it like this:
Assume the answer is no. If you do want us to entertain the idea of a trade for Charlie then we will only listen to 1 trade scenario from each club so make the offer your very best.
We want a full list of the players you are willing to trade and you the club is to organise 60 minutes with the players that we choose from your list so that we can determine if they would be a good fit for the Carlton Football Club.
This deal is open to all 17 other clubs. The best offers for us will be discussed. If we choose that an offer or offers are sufficient then we will present them to Charlie and he can determine if he is willing to go to that club/s. If not he is welcome to see out the remaining 4 years of his contract. We understand if this process is too hard for your club and we will not be offended if you choose to not make a bid for Charlie.
Again we are happy to open our arms and welcome Charlie back to the football club for the first day of preseason.
Kind regards
Carlton Football Club.

Such certitude at this point in time is foolhardy.

A lot to play out in the next few weeks...
Happy to be proven wrong, Cats are in a position where they don't have draft picks of value and won't release their quality players.

The other point is that any player will need to be convinced to come to Carlton why would any player of quality want to leave Geelong to go to Carlton right now.

Curnow will go to Sydney or stay.

If we roll over for Geelong we might as well pack it up as a club.

Confident we will hold firm. It is not up to us to set the terms, its up to them to propose a offer too good to refuse. They don't have the picks we want and I'm struggling to see what they'd be able to contribute to a multi trade with other clubs as their late 1sts offer nothing of significant value. It would essentially involve a few other teams offering Geelong a massive favour by letting them take Curnow while offering not much in the grand scheme of the trade.

In reality they will have to put up a contracted star but why would a Holmes, Miers, Dempsey or Sullivan want to leave Geelong for Carlton right now?

If Geelong is the destination, Charlie is staying. I can understand wanting to move interstate to get out of the Victorian footy "bubble" but going 90 minutes down the highway is seriously taking the piss.

Why not stay and contribute to building our culture through showing some leadership rather than cutting and running after giving absolutely no heart or effort all year?

I swear a lot of modern footballers just want to be brands not professional athletes.

After Saturday, Geelong need Charlie Curnow way more than we need to trade Charlie Curnow to Geelong.

Geelong will have to sell the farm/s to get Curnow 😉. Can’t see it happening or can I…

Maybe we could offer him some incentives to stay, such as unlimited Uber to take him back and forth to the surf, training and games, to save him the bike rides. Would an elite surf coach fit into our soft cap or fashion designer?

They also know that their window is closing rapidly.

Danger. Blicavs, Stanley, Stewart, even J. Cameron getting way on...

Their list is paper think frankly.,,

At 29, they'll get 5 years out of Charlie.... Is Neale really up to it? And they'll never get another game out of danger like his PF game...

Out of the teams, seemingly in the race for Curnow, the one needing him the most is Sydney. They really lack a consistent key forward. Also, he’s a draw card who they need.

I’d be happy with at least 2 first rounders and Hayward. If not Hayward, I’d be looking at Campbell - they aren’t playing him consistently in his best position off a HBF.
I think 2 firsts and a player of need like BC or Hayward is a starting point. No way will it be enough. I'd stand firm that they need to find us a top 3 pick and a future plus a better player.

Sticking point will be that they won't part with the ones we want so need to go secure a quality young player (Humphrey, Walter) in any deal - which will be hard as Suns also want CC.

"Incentives to stay" you mean like a signed contract?

as steak knives perhaps...

He’s so much better than that.

Fancy a Carlton supporter looking at Mannagh and claiming ‘steak knives’ 😆

Miers and Mannagh are #1 and #2 general forwards in the comp. Both are elite and both did bucket-loads more than Charlie.

We’re in the lucky position where Charlie’s reputation is greater than his performance imo. No doubt at his best he’s a star though.

Doesn't change the fact that the deal needs to he extremely good for us. A deadline doesn't change that. I'm keeping an unhappy Curnow rather than gifting a club a flag.

Its common trading technique not to open with your best offer.

Club would be well served waiting until the trading parties blink closer to the trade deadline

If we trade then obviously the trade will be very good

The deadline absolutely comes into play.
