Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

We are back in contention for the 8 and above from next year.
Our issues were predominantly:
1. above the shoulders stuff that while I cannot explain specifically, I'm 100% convinced were there
2. An amateurish footy dept, particularly Head of Football
3. An obstinate coach who (IMHO) knows he's on thin ice and will finally change bc Wright and Davies will be breathing down his neck
4. Second rate assistants who I believe Wright is addressing

TDK leaving is not a big deal. We don't need a ruckman who is a quasi mid. We just need a good solid ruckman who works in concert with their mids

Smith, Lord, Cowan, Carroll, Moir will all benefit from 2025, Smith will be very hungry

Jack Silvagni will be replaced by Newman

Charlie will make us less predictable (and maybe Khamis, Kemp and Moir) will work well with Harry

And...let's start playing Cripps in the goal square more often. He is almost KPF height

We are back in contention for finals in 2026. Nothing guaranteed but what I firmly believe is this is no mini rebuild...just a clean up and re calibration
Is it possible to rectify all this in one pre season ?

I’d be going after Bobby. We’ve seen how crucial small forwards of his calibre are on the big stage in September.

On pure talent, unequivocally yes.

I think there’s some serious baggage there though. By all reports, I suspect he’d be happier moving out west.

If Walsh leaves for Free Agency I'd almost pack it up. Understanding he's had injury concerns, its more what it represents. He is our young gun, future captain, set the standard footballer. Losing Walsh, Charlie, TDK, JSOS in two years. That's a scorched earth full rebuild.

It would reflect what we already know - something is not right at this club. Another rebuild built on green shoots and promise is depressing. Every chance they get to 24/25 and just leave as well.

We are so far off the mark we are losing all our good players.

Aside from Curnow having a sook and wanting to jump ship now, the Walshes will make the decision by end of next year when it’s likely Voss isn’t renewed and they bring in a new coach

Can't leave it until next year. The vultures will circle, get in his ear, and it will be too late. We've seen this too often.
Hopefully Wright / Davies are better equipped at managing these tasks and get it done early.

I can't believe the death spiral of misery and pessimism that permeates in this place. We finished 11th and unless I've watched a different team this year, these are the observations.

We lose TDK, who was below par this year, bar 1 or 2 games. Replace him with a solid consistent Ruckman who performs their role all year and we're no worse off than this year.

We lose a 4th time positionally reinvented player who rarely plays for more than half a season. Replace him with a solid defender who plays close to a full season and we're no better or worse off IMO.

Then most likely Charlie leaves, who was merely a shadow of his former self. The hardest to replace but a full season from Harry and a solid season from the likes of Kemp or Moir or even Frank would cover this year's output.

Do I think these players at their peak would be replaceable? Not at all, but their output this year definitely can be replaced. Add to that the addition of some hopefully fit, near full seasons from Newman, Smith, Walsh and Cottrell, and I see more reason to improve ladder positions rather than drop further. This doesn't include natural progression with age from this list.

Everyone has their own view of it, but all this talk about full rebuilds reminds me of a key scene in Tropic Thunder. You people may need to spend some time off the internet.

Agree with this. Problem is our supporter group don't know anything but rebuilds. Don't blame them....

It's called being a realist. I guess time will tell. I'm confident we finish bottom 4 next season.

We will find out everything we need to know about Sam Walsh in due time...

I like the stance he took when he came back. His comments sparked a whole new slogan for the marketing team to capitalise on...

Now, if he goes ahead and leaves after making that statement... then we will know he's just another part of the problem. All talk...

If he elects to stay, then we will know that he's a true leader for this club...

Having said that, if we have a really poor season next year, (finish 3rd last for example) and there's no change to FA compo... and he wants to walk out... then with band 1, we'll get pick #4...
Walsh said he would be a one club player when he was drafted

My view is that Curnow is equivalent to 3000 draft points. And I am talking 3000 points after draft points have been pushed back

2 Coleman medals, key forward, game changer, 4-year contract, balanced out by age 29 and a poor 2025. I think 3000 points is about right to a team in/ near the window needing a key forward.

Geelong is absolutely out of the question. There is no way they can generate that type of currency.

Gold Coast I don't think can piss away existing academy players and upcoming draft. Its a possibility but looking more unlikely.

Which leaves the Swans. Crunching the numbers and a small amount of swans intel on how it could get done.

1st round Pick 9 2025 (estimated to be pushed back) Pick 15 = 973 points
1st round pick 2026 (rough valuation on ladder position and concessions) Pick 16 = 924 points
2nd round 2026 (rough valuation on ladder position and concessions) Pick 33 = 382 points

That would leave the deal approximately 700 points short. Equivalent of approx Pick 22.

For that price there may be a few some interest in movement for a few players. Will Hayward 26 Year old medium forward. The other player I would consider is Justin McInerney, 25 Year old outside mid who is hitting his straps, can run and kick and has some toughness.

Out Curnow

In Sydney 1st rounders 2025 and 2026
Sydney 2nd rounder 2026
Hayward or McInerney

Sets us up for both high quality drafting, including FS and academy and capital and inject quality role players.
Why is Sydney getting pushed to 15? We have Allen comp, Draper and TDK, that takes it to 12.

Probably counting academy bids, but I think that under this index more picks up the order will be required to match so it's not as reliable a method

The problem with statements like this, ‘equivalent of pick 6’ is that it means nothing. The point system has always been broken. 12 and 14 are sometimes worth more than pick 3. Pick 35, 36, 41 and 42 are almost always worth less than pick 1-5.
It’s just a point of reference to show that Geelong got two decent picks back, people love throwing out the line, Geelong paid 3 1st round picks but fail to include that GWS gave back picks 24 and 27, these aren’t late 3rd round junk picks.

So in this instance I think it’s pretty relevant
