This is about Smith first, then JUH

"...the 24-year-old has revealed his locker at the Cattery is adorned with powerful and emotive messages on mental strength.

“I am disciplined, I am fearless, I am confident, I am free,” one read. “I embrace pain, pressure and hardship.”

I am a car wreck waiting to happen

I suspect tht the club, including the coach, has a no dickheads policy after being burnt quite a few times post-2016
Bevo apparently had an attitude that he would let some off field shenanigans slide as long as it didn’t affect on field or get the club in trouble.

Obviously Stringer crossed that line, as did some others.

A few years ago the club got sick of certain things (including Smith’s coke video) and put pressure on the coaches to crack down. There was apparently some tension caused to the extent it affected the club on field in 2023.

Can see Smith being a bit of an Aker in terms of his complete inability to fall into line. Meanwhile Stringer was eventually more or less kicked out of Essendon and Hunter didn’t last long at Melbourne. I’m not sure this issue actually hurts us much.

Considering Marra has kept a low profile, aside from one podcast where he talked about his mental health, I don’t think he is over playing it.

Once a player gets on to a senior list their game transitions the 80/20 rule. 20% ability and 80% psychological. Mara has the 20%, I dont believe he is invested enough into the 80%, maybe never will.

He's got to work out what he wants from life.

If getting a meeting requires "working toward" - and this is literally just a meeting - doesn't really spell out anything good for the future.

OK. Enough with the pile-on. We all know that most of us want Jamarra gone. No need for childish put-downs on top of what is a shithouse situation.

As Jamarra is contracted still, are we still in the strongest position, or would be willing to take unders, just to get him out of the club?

He won't be at the club. We also don't want to give him to another club, a rival, for nothing.

We will likely be stuck with his wage either way which is our only leverage for a half decent return

We will still work with the AFL in trying to not have to pay his contract both retrospectively and for next year and the benefits of that. It's just something that could be a several years long process with implications for the AFL and our own club's consideration of Indigenous people and their culture, the fact that the AFLPA is a strong union, and we're up against a strong player manager.

A lot of this won't even get sorted out until we know for certain whether or not another club will give him a chance, or if they don't, whether Jamarra will turn up on time to the first day of pre-season, which may change things (we don't expect him to, and we haven't made him feel welcome to, but he still theoretically could). This logically will lead to a multi-party settlement conference. We can all agree that he hasn't upheld his contract. But there literally could have to be six parties that sign off on any settlement/ending of his time - the club, the AFL, the AFLPA, Jamarra and his agents, and people with Indigenous considerations and people with mental health considerations. Any settlement might be years away.

Dalrymple & Bevo situation coming up here, where a head coach is going to overrule the recruiting department about a player pick up.

My initial info was half-correct, coming from my player manager contact who has contact with recruitment departments, he is under the impression that the recruitment team at GC aren't one to keen on JUH.. Hardwick on the other hand.

Alot to play out still.

Dusty looked like he was going down the Jamarra pathway in his early days. Even now still hangs around some awful people (and his own dad was deported). I’m sure Hardwick has no regrets backing him in, and is confident he can do the same here

Difference being that Dusty loved playing footy.

Not sure the same can be said of Jamarra.

I think he likes the idea of playing footy, less so the reality.

He doesn't hang around with awful people. He's never been like Jamarra. He was late for training twice in his whole career.
His Dad was deported because of Dutton's ridiculous new laws which no other countries have .
I don't think Jamarra wants to be a professional footballer , much like Tom Boyd, and I don't think anyone will pick him up.

I know we want him off our books, but this really is a disaster. Number 1 pick and a few years later lose him for nothing. Not saying the club has done anything wrong, but losing more A grade talent for no return is such a bad outcome and likely keeps us mid table.

It’s obviously far from ideal, but given we used pick 14 on him and not an actual pick 1 it’t not that bad. Pretty hit and miss in that range in that draft.
