Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Agree, if they gave us (as picks currently stand before any bids)
Pick 9
Pick 28
2026 First (likely around Pick 10-12?)
Florent or McInerney or Rowbottom or Campbell

And we give
Charlie
Pick 45

We end up with (this year)
Pick 9
Pick 10
Pick 28
Pick 29 (SOS compo second round)
Pick 37
Florent or McInerney or Rowbottom or Campbell
from losing TDK, SOS and Charlie

Add Pick 11 next year from Swans plus our current 2026 first rounder for a Walker bid.

I say that's an incredibly strong position, and not unrealistic to think that's where we might land with the Swans.

How Geelong can even think they have leverage at the moment when the Swans have all of that to give up is beyond me.
Its not a very exciting return. Once all the academy picks come in etc, not one piece of that deal sais yeah we got something special back for our gun forward

I just don’t see Graham Wright accepting picks 9, future first and some fringe players like Florent, Rowbottom or Campbell for Charlie. I think that would be a horrible deal for us.
9, F1, Campbell, Rowbottom….where do I sign?

I don't rate Campell. Great kick. Not much else. Very much a fringe player despite being highly rated early on. Probably in our 22 but not by much.

McInerney on the other hand would be a great get. I would take him 1st out of all the Sydney guys spoken about here, though I think he'd also be the hardest to get, particularly paired with 2 1sts.

Of the guys we've spoken about McInerney > Hayward >>>>Campbell > Florent for me. I think the 1st two are a clear tier above the 2nd two.

Not going to even include Rowbottom. Completely unsuitable.

I think it all depends on what happens this off-season.

If we build out the middle of our list with serviceable players/depth, what's the expectation on where we can finish next year? Pushing for finals? 7-8th at best probably?

So if he achieves a 7-10th finish in a transitional year, do you then give him a one year extension plus a genuine war chest of picks and salary cap (if Charlie leaves) to go bang and really give it a red, hot crack?

If we sign a Butters-type while losing Charlie in this off-season, then yeah you'd expect at least a top 6 finish home elim final with the aspiration of top 4.
I think it depends on Voss being able to change and finally drive the standards, update the player attitudes to team first ethos and evolve the game style. These should be non-negotiables for successful coaches.
IMO - he has failed in every single point over the 4 years. Must change.

When you create and establish bonds and friendships in a team environment you'll find people go to bat for you.

It doesn't mean that he'll get that chance. It means that people much closer to the situation than either of us haven't given up on him.

Even if we let him go he's going to keep some mates at the club.
Sure. Lets not forget also that he may well be accepting of his fate knowing that he has blown all his chances with us.

Judging our results over the last 30 years we have been light on for very good players.
Can’t have enough of them imo.
We have not balanced our list. We are too top heavy on the inside and have limited outside run.
We can't keep bringing in inside midfielders who give us little run. We also have BC and Lord developing.
We need to be much smarter and more agile with our selections.
Replacing Hewett with Rowbottom does nothing for our overall team.

The other thing to factor in here is list spots. We won't take a huge bundle of Swans players on when list spots are tight and we are already getting Khamis, Chesser, Reidy, Dean etc.

This is why I don't think it gets done. The 2 Sydney firsts plus a fringe player aren't enough and they're not giving up a star. Pick 9 this year isn't great and falls in the Dean range and their future first isn't great if they add Curnow and move up the ladder again.

How are you measuring this if not on wins and losses though?

Can this be genuinely measured putting the W-L column aside?

We've already covered that there's almost no chance of a Dean bid before pick 10 (i.e. the Dogs' pick).

Outside of that, I'd happily take 9, F1, and two of Hayward, Campbell, Dattoli, and Florent. We've well and truly got enough list spots for quality.

Even if all we did was elevate one rookie and trade out Charlie, we currently have room for 5 players. We've already got 2 or 3 more to send out the door (Acres, E.Hollands, McGovern), and there's still room for delistings or throwaway trades (White, Floyd Young, Binns, Boyd).

We have zero concerns in terms of bringing in players who would happily play forward or outside mid for us, roles and positions where we desperately need change and support. The players I'm naming for Sydney aren't scraps, they're either elite role players or young talent playing roles while they work up to more midfield minutes.

Quality post Jimmae but we can can agree to disagree on a few points.

Twomey on Footy Furnace, who is the main draft guy, basically insinuated that a bid would come on Dean before our TDK compo pick hence we are looking to trade it. I'm sorry but I'd trust his knowledge of this draft over supporters on Big Footy who come from a biased and passionate angle.

As for Hayward, yes I'd take him in a Charlie trade. But Campbell (don't mind him), Dattoli (unproven), Florent (not even best 22 at Sydney anymore and is soft) are not really the kind of quality we should be looking at when trading away a superstar player.

Campbell and McInenry would walk into our best 22….easily.
What are you blokes smoking?

If we're giving up our 2x Coleman medal winning star I don't want mediocre roleplayers who can walk into our best 22 that lacks depth and quality.

I want a player who can walk into our top 5-10 players at a minimum and then some.

Star for star or something that will undeniably give us one.

Twomey is more misses than hits this time of year. He's saying what clubland is telling him, which is whatever they want to be said. He's also an Essendon supporter who loves to throw shade when he can, and everyone with a pulse knows panicking Carlton supporters is easy viewership and revenue.

Even if it winds up being line ball, I'd much rather we had a strategy prepared for the night than trade out now, unless an absurd deal comes our way in the next week or so. Much more keen on us turning only one of the TDK and Sydney picks into a higher selection, and then rolling the dice.

Those pick positions are gold in this draft, and they're not to be frittered away on a whim.
