I enjoy putting on my tinfoil hat and shooting the sheet so here’s what I think might be running through the minds of our recruiters and co…

Scenario 1 - Raid SA

Sharp is the highest available player on our board. We take him at 3 then we trade 4 to grab a later 1st Rd pick to land one of Marsh / Cumming / Phillipou plus a future first round pick. We also find a way to grab Kellaway if a bid eventuates.

Rationale: SA were the best team in the Champs. We bank an all but guaranteed 200+ gamer in Sharp to feed the ball out to Lalor / Hotton and Smillie. Bring a few SA mates with him to help make Tigerland feel like home.

Scenario 2 - The Eastern Tigers

It’s the Robey show. We’ve seen enough and are smitten with Sully and what he projects to be. We then grab X Taylor providing some irresistible versatility to each end of the ground and/or midfield rotations.

BUT - If a desperate club comes to us with a great offer for Sharp / CDT then we trade 4 to grab a later 1st Rd pick to land one of O Taylor / Dovaston plus a future first round pick

Rationale: After our haul last year we’re in a position to take a higher risk type player in Robey who opens up all sorts of fwd/mid rotation options. X Taylor comes in to be the heir apparent to Vlastuin / Broad.

Scenario 3 - Complete the midfield

Without any great deals tabled for splitting 4, we simply grab Sharp & Robey as best available on our board.

Rationale: With that we all but complete our midfield rebuild and look to add speed via Free Agency (Butters anyone?). Still room for Armstrong next yeah given the flexibility of players like Hotton, Lalor, Smillie

Good summary and agree with your order.

Obviously Robey has come in with a tonne of excitement and hype so late in the piece. Would’ve been fantastic to have seen how he would’ve fared in the U18 championships.

I do like the fact that Sharp, Cumming and Kellaway have all played really good footy together with SA and complimented each others games to a very high standard in a winning side.
Certainly wouldn’t be disappointed if we got the SA trio.

I think you may have something right there...

Now Robey is the clear no 1 and will be taken by the eagles I reckon both our picks will be split

Given how we approached the draft last year with Armstrong, Trainor and Hotton, it wouldn't surprise me to see us go the SA haul and draft their midfield of Sharp, Cumming and Kellaway.

Add in Sharp's teammate Dougie next year and we have a nucleus that oppo's will start to fear as the team matures.

Would certainly mitigate any go home factor

He was on everyone's delist pile halfway through this year and has since played about 7 good games. Although those 7 games were pretty good.
Interestingly he pretty much hit the ground running. Didn't seem to take long in settling back in, which is unusual regarding ACL injury.... good for him though in getting a solid contract. All the best at the Eagles.

Ordinarily, but there’s pick 29 this year vs pick 29 in another year.

Pick 11 could be the one. Starting to sound like clubs will start passing in the teens.

Yeah i know a lot of people dont like to count all the picks and just the open pool but pick 29 is probably going to be close to pick 40. Even with pick 11 that's likely to be a touch under pick 20, maybe 17-18.

I can't see us taking Robey if we keep picks 3 & 4. The only way we will take him is if we split our picks and take him with a pick in the teens. Hartley is too professional to make a last minute decision on a players value. All of our picks are based off years of scouting and evaluating. Sharp (&/or Cummings) is the most likely choice with three who plays a very similar role and would work well along side Smilie.
From what I’ve heard from a bloke I’m mates with that has ties to Eastern CTL , this is accurate
