Yeah, I remember seeing photos of this. The biggest ever sponsorship deal in Victorian sport at the time. It was signed in 1976. However, the logo was only shown on tracksuits and training jumpers, not match-day jumpers.

This article explains the deal:

Became Sir Donald and these were his horse racing silks.

Just noticed in this clip from 1992 the Collingwood logo has the AFL logo in the bottom corner and not on the magpie..is this another version ?

Check the Collingwood logo at the 22 sec mark.

Spotted this little doozy while watching random 90's games on YT

In the 1995 season, Essendon were rocking what looks like a fully sublimated jumper in their Round 2 clash against Fremantle. Also the back sponsor doesn't have "TAC" underneath

Though not everyone was

That style was used sparingly throughout the rest of the 1995 season from what I could find. Some screenshots from their Round 22 clash against Carlton. Notice #35 in wool here, and in the sublimated version 2 pictures above

Could only find one image of their Round 1 clash against Fitzroy, Darren Bewick in the background wearing the woollen version and in the next game too. So is Olarenshaw who wore the woollen version here and in Round 2, what luck the only Round 1 photo doesn't have a different player so we can see if this fully sublimated version was worn then

Besides the missing TAC on the back, the front sponsor looks like a normal sharp cornered rectangle than the woollen one with rounded corners

Yeah I think FJ website still has this a little wrong. Maybe the Australian flag logo was used sparingly for internal documents but in 1993-94 everything I’ve seen has Collingwood still using the shield with the AFL logo in the bottom right.

Couldn't find a logo but they did make a plush in that mascot style. Then there was another version prior to the surfer where the docker stood up straight with his hands in his pockets or something

Edit: Found it, well, by his pockets at least

Can someone please vectorise this Dockerman?

Also, can't seem to find the '90's PA mascot nor the boxing North Melbourne logo facing front on in such clarity. (Dates back at least to 1995.)

Cheers all.

This is the best version of the first Dockerman I can find in the classic 90s mascot style (from Mitchell & Ness website). I'll see if I can get a decent trace of it for you.

BTW, also came across this in my Google image search. What in the Michael Myers was this monstrosity?!

That one is an adaptation of the Saints’ mascot shield, I think flipped the other way and with some obvious changes made to fit the Dockers mascot.

Feels like an oversight to put the establishment year on a shirt meant to commemorate their inaugural year while we’re at it. I only say this because M&N are usually the champions of era accurate fauxback merch.

1992 Footy Record had the AFL logo on the magpie
1758292146529.png

So did 1993
1758292409917.png

After having a look through past card and sticker sets. I think the first year that those classic mascot logos was used was in 1991.

The Select 1991 Footy Stickers use them as the logos for teams instead of the logos at the time. The 1990 set used the official logos and both the Scanlens Stimorol sets from 1990 and 1991 used the official logos.

Unless someone can find those logos being used any earlier on any official AFL stuff, I would say 1991 was when those mascot logos were introduced.

(I've mainly been checking this site as it has a database of Trading Cards on it. Including Aussie Rules cards under the Misc Sports section. https://www.tcdb.com/ViewAll.cfm/sp/Misc Sports?MODE=Years)

Hey Mero , another Eagles pre-season guernsey to add to your website, for 2007. Like in 2006, they wore guernseys in the NAB Cup and NAB Challenge with alternating front and back sponsors, unlike in the season proper. Also like in 2006, they were bundled out of the Cup in the first round and played their three remaining matches in the Challenge (so the navy guernsey with SGIO front and HJ back probably won't make your website).

But the official NAB Cup round 1 guernsey is the Eagles 2007 royal blue guernseys with SGIO front and HJ back.

And NAB Challenge Round 4:

Notes:
  • I think it’s important to delineate between formal/internal use and marketing/external use. For example, during the 1980s the Cats were using the Big V shield internally (membership cards, I suspect annual reports) but publicly everything was using the Marbold Cat shield. And then in the 90s the GFC shield was the internal logo, before becoming the external logo in the 2000s. It’s probably a little more formalised since 2008 with still the adoption of two logos for different purposes. I wouldn’t say for any of these that Geelong only had one logo at the time - clearly times they were using 2 or 3 at once for different purposes.
  • Sometimes an outgoing and incoming logo are used in the same year (for different uses or different times of the year) as there has been some crossover (e.g. 2007/08 logo change)
  • Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence – these are just the logos I have been able to confirm with online evidence. The years may extend where I have not been able to find other examples, or other logos may have also been used which I have complete.
  • There are many other ‘logo’ types on playing cards, badges, pins etc. (particularly in the mid-20th century) which I have not considered as there is no evidence they were officially used by the club. I am not sure if the 1970s mascot logo/s that currently sit on your site are also an example of this.
  • I can find no evidence of the below logo used by Geelong in their history-related marketing material. It is placed between the GFC ribbon monogram (most likely 1950-55) and the GFC Big V Shield (used from 1956-1988). It is similar to the secondary monogram I found from 1958-60, however not that close.

I also find it interesting that in Bob Gartland's mural that I've roughly stitched together below, which includes a number of the artefacts I found above, I can see images of all of these vectorised logos except the one above:
