Odyssey Sports Management’s James Pitcher has offered an update on Mason Cox’s future at Collingwood.

The 34-year-old ruck/forward is currently without a deal at the Magpies and is free to look around at whatever offers he can garner around the competition.

While Cox is yet to be tabled a deal by the Magpies, Pitcher says the club hopes to keep him on their list for 2026 but are simply holding off putting that offer in front of him until they get a clear idea of what list spots they’re looking at.

“I'd like to think he would (get another deal at Collingwood),” Pitcher said on AFL Trade Radio.

“We've had really good chats with Collingwood since really the injury has occurred, that I don't think it's ever been a conversation about him not being there, but it was always going to come down to list spots.

“He had a great exit with Fly (Craig McRae) and Leppa (Justin Leppitsch) last week, and I think they were quite clear, and they want to find a way for him to remain at Collingwood, but it's really going to depend on this upcoming trade period and what potentially happens.

“But, again, his ability to play a role for the team that's quite sacrificial (is big).

“I think he was a really big part of their success in that first two thirds of the season, and he’s done everything to deserve at least another year at the Pies.”

Laughed at this. Those 5-6 games, including multiple where he was subbed out, really set us up for a finals push!

To what extent are people here concerned of a potential major drop off by either Sidebottom or Pendleton in 2026?

Just thinking about our midfield and the degree to which we should be going hard for someone (or not, and having a minor slide, but getting some games into developing mids and aiming for the 26/27 draft/trade window)
This is nothing to be concerned about. The club will have a clear understanding of where our veterans are at and will be making plans accordingly.

Not quite - I think they've handled that situation really respectfully and are very happy for him to stay at the club but they won't stand in the way if he wants to go somewhere that can guarantee more senior time.
Nah, that ain't it. They've got confirmation Flanders is coming and now it looks as though he plays VFL. St.Kilda will spin this off in the media in order to protect his currency, but they'd want him out.... Why pay him his salary to play VFL when they can get somehting in return and get his money off the books

I'd take Jack Steele over Clayton Oliver

I would agree that he was a big part of the last few games, but 2/3 of the season might be a stretch

The fact that we haven't heard anything from butters means that he in all likelihood is going to play at port next year and wait for FA.

Really need to save the salary cap for him, he is worth a 10 year $27 mill type deal.
$27 million!

Holy moly!!!!!!!

Butters has said he will play at the Tealed ones next year, that he would not tear them apart. Normally when I post like this there is an announcement that makes my post look foolish in 10 minutes.

The players responsible for that sustainable relavance are coming close to the end of their playing careers. Outside of nick, we don't really have any talented youth coming through.

I would rather us be able to hit on multiple mids in the draft then spend that draft capital on Humphrey. That is just my personal feeling.

If Collingwood get him then I will get behind him and support him , I just would like us to not shy away from being aggressive in the draft .
So you would rather an unknown or 2 instead of a mini Jordy? Are you mad??

5 on the bench will mean veterans can be managed and any major drop off in game will be mitigated. Conversely they can also be managed for maximum impact with multiple bursts during a game.

As for Pendleton - what do his stats tell you 😜
