Sure. It's a question of what is the amount of Oliver's contract a club is willing to take on. If Dees pay the maximum they're prepared to pay then they'd usually want something in return. That's why there's a maximum. His current contract is one that no one will take on. They have to pay a big chunk to start with to get a club to take him on for free in trade. If they pay more than that they could be in for a draft pick. It's irrelevant to the acquiring club how much the Dees are paying - what's relevant to them is how much they'd have to pay Clarry and how much they'd have to give up in trade - and yes the less they have to pay Clarry, the more they'll have to give up in trade. But what pick it'll cost is a complete guess - that comes down to whether the clubs are in a position where picks are more valuable to them than salary cap space or vice versa.
I know, right! I don't do it now but times were different when I was younger, especially in my late teens. I use to drive to the boozer from my lines in the army and then drive down the back, very short rd, back to my room, very drunk, 1990Unlucky

All good then, wasn't making comment to sh*t stir, was speculation on Copeland thread it had been mentioned.A mate of mine is there and has confirmed Bobby is there.
Cox is a partial answer to protect and take pressure off our young forwards next year, especially if Mihochek leaves. He was better in his two finals than any of MMM were over the last two months. Especially McStay, who was utterly woeful.Nobody is suggesting that, but to pretend that Cox is the answer is bizarre. I guess he shields them by having top defenders walk all over him instead - not sure that helps the team
If we get Buller he’s gone. He’d have been offered another contract already and not been forced to wait to see what happens in the trade period otherwise.Cox is a partial answer to protect and take pressure off our young forwards next year, especially if Mihochek leaves. We wouldn’t have beaten the Crows without Cox. He took several contested marks at key moments and kicked two goals against the Lions in the Prelim. When Cox is up forward, he gets double-teamed, which limits his direct impact but creates space and opportunities for others.
I bet he gets another contract.
I don't really know but I hope they're not breathing heavyWTF are they all doing in the bushes
His market value is decreasing, not increasing.Geez, so Bobby's not at the Copeland..... not ideal. Swap for Humphrey??
no official announcement, so guess they kinda cant yet.No farewells to Checkers tonight?
Times weren’t different. You were different. We do grow up a little bit.I know, right! I don't do it now but times were different when I was younger, especially in my late teens. You should go.Geez, so Bobby's not at the Copeland..... not ideal. Swap for Humphrey??
I’d love to see him at Collingwood but how the hell can we possibly get a deal done for Humphrey?
We’d surely have to give up Elliott (staying), Hill or McCreery at the very least.
Times absolutely were different. I didn't do it but DUI and avoiding the booze bus was like a badge of honour in society back in 1990 if not almost celebrated in order society and certainly didn't carry the stigma and shame it does today.Times weren’t different. You were different. We do grow up a little bit.
I’d be taking Steele over Oliver no matter the scenario.Sure. It's a question of what is the amount of Oliver's contract a club is willing to take on. If Dees pay the maximum they're prepared to pay then they'd usually want something in return. That's why there's a maximum.
It is not a good sign for Melbourne that they've started with "we're willing to pay up to $700k". That suggests they're in a very weak position, so I don't rule out the possibility that they just give him away, but it would be odd.
Odd because: Oliver is 28. A former star who played 22 games last year. Reported that Geelong had an offer of a future 1st and paying $1M last year. It would be unusual for a player to be traded for a junk pick in this situation. On the caveat that I'm not aware of Oliver having additional issues through 2025, maybe I've missed it or they're not public, this would make sense of it.
If the Dees pay $700k of his contract - a huge imposition - they'd surely want something in return. It may be that their position is so weak that they can't get anything, but we'll see. It largely comes down to how many clubs are interested.
Junk pick or decent pick, either way Oliver's a risk. If Dees are so desperate as to give him away for nothing you're not getting a bargain - not to say that it can't work out and become a bargain, but you take on the risk.
He was there.Geez, so Bobby's not at the Copeland..... not ideal. Swap for Humphrey??
What?
He threw the line and got a couple of bites by the looksWhy would that happen??
Yep. Imagine a supporter trolling their own clubs forum. He threw the line and got a couple of bites by the looks
Dave, mate. Humphrey is not anywhere near Josh Daicos as a player. I shouldn't be surprised you threw him in there though. You quite often crack me upWe would need to Trade someone like:
- Josh Daicos
- Bobby Hill
- McCreery
I am not saying we would but Suns would want a Quality Player back and those are 3 that came top of my head
