You have to consider how far a 4YO could actually travel on foot since the time he was last seen. Then consider the physical limitations imposed by the terrain. If he wandered and got lost how far could he go before becoming exhausted, seeking shelter or water? He's unlikely to voluntarily enter a dam or body of water. I believe he was relatively familiar with the property so would probably be attracted to, or be searching for a familiar landmark. It makes no sense to head AWAY from buildings, roads, or fences. He would most likely follow a road, trail, fenceline or creek or seek shelter. This location is generally quite flat and sparse - mostly open area, with very few places he could hide or be hidden within the small radius he MIGHT have wandered. IMO he SHOULD have been located by now if he is actually there still.

Read this morning that the grandmother had left him alone for 30 minutes and when she returned he was gone. Doesn't add up.
30 minutes seems a very long time to leave a 4YO child unsupervised, assuming it WAS only 30 minutes and not longer. I think I read this boy was also autistic too? She 'returned'? Where did she 'return' from and why leave him unattended at all?

He looks like a classic case of Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder in my opinion.

Poor dear sweet Gus ❤️
I’m not qualified in any way but I feel

He looks like a classic case of Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder in my opinion.

I have wanted to say this but have been reluctant to appear judgemental. I am qualified and have worked with many children with this sad and unfortunate disorder. Yes, dear little Gus does appear to have Foetal Alcohol Syndrome. This means he has a very different way of thinking and cannot be compared to what a 'normal' child would be expected to do in the same situation.

I really hope SAPOL are utilising the appropriate professionals and have tempered their searches accordingly. I believe Gus is part of a complex situation and there is much more to this than meets the eye.

We don’t have any details about this case other than Gus is missing.
Who was at the house/on the property when Gus disappeared?
I was wondering if the search dogs were used to sniff around the buildings - house, sheds, outbuildings and vehicles or did they just scour the landscape?

Last seen playing in the sand pit.

Police are continuing to search for four-year-old Gus, who disappeared from his family's vast sheep grazing property while playing in sand about 5pm on Saturday.

Superintendent Syrus said the search was being guided by the expertise of the property owners and neighbouring landholders, while locals had combed the area on motorbikes.

A helicopter and drones have scoured the area from the sky, while police divers have checked water tanks and the dams on the property where water was present.

It's was not suspected anyone had taken the boy, Syrus saying the "only people who would travel on this road are station owners" or those who serviced the area.

He said it was "unusual" for Gus to have wandered off and said the boy "normally stays within the confines of the area".

I hope all station owners' properties are checked as well

Does anyone know what this white thing is?
Looks a bit like a tooth.

Would a small child keep walking at night which arrived no more than a couple of hours after he went missing?? I think instinct would make him seek shelter, such as in a creek bed or under a bluebush. Then why did the thermal imaging from the chopper that night not pick him up then? He couldn’t have been very far away. Then if he survived the night and was on the move next day yes he might have followed a track or a fence line if he came across one, which would have helped the searchers, but good chance he did not come across one. Poor fellow, hope they find him, must still be a chance however slim.

Nothing seems right. Why would you leave a four year old unsupervised for 30 minutes. !!!?
The supervision blaming is getting a bit much IMO.

I’ve left my kids in front of the tv while taking a shower/shaving legs/doing my hair countless times. Mind you they usually come and harass me before I make it out to check on them, but I could easily be distracted for 30 mins without sighting them in that period of time.
We live on a property, only accessed via private roads and across the road from their grandparents.
Prefer the kids inside if I know I won’t be watching them intently for a period of time but realistically I’ve probably left them in the garden unattended for 30 mins before too, thinking I’m just popping inside for the loo but then checked dinner boiling on the stove, mindlessly scrolling on my phone for a couple minutes then realising “shit I better check on the kids” when I’ve realised things are a bit quiet.

Maybe I’m a piss poor parent but it just really doesn’t strike me as that outlandish, especially if the kid is with a sibling and not known to wander. I imagine there is a lot of blame, regret and “what if”-ing going on in that house already without everyone in the country piling on.

But where’s the body then?

He’s 4, he’s not going to wander too far. You’ve got 100 people looking for him in a 2k radius . Someone should have found something by now .
At 4 he could make 5 kilometres per day.
Young kids normally stop at nightfall and curl up for a sleep.
They can live like this for a week.

Nah, I used to take my 4yo kid to work with me in a family business (which in effect, is what a sheep station is). He'd basically amuse himself for the day, going in and out. Thirty minutes without supervision would be nothing unusual. As you say, you check on them when you haven't heard/seen them for a while. If you wanted to know where someone or something was, just ask the kid.

Ms Tiver said she knew the Lamont family 'well' and described them as 'kind', 'gentle', 'reliable', 'trustworthy', and 'truthful'.

'They embody everything about humans that can be good,' she said.

This poor community has been through so much.
