Starcevich is a restricted free agent. We would likely still match to force some kind of trade.

If we match the contract, that takes the PSD threat off the table, as Starcevich would then have to go through the national draft, per the AFL’s rules.
Your club are absolutely campaigners for demanding pick 16.

It's easy though unless we get a good fair deal we just walk away, Starcevich stays & we do something else with those picks.

Not sure though how walking away from an offer we put in will go down with the Player Agents & if it will have a detrimental effect on players wanting to come to us in the future.
Honestly, all this bullshit about players wanting their old team fairly compensated pisses me off. Brisbane just won two GF's and are getting two very good KPP from weak teams for free, f**k them and their fairly compensated.

Yes, but I'd expect the AFL to smell something fishy if there's a points loss. Mind you, they signed off Bowes + pick 7 to Geelong, so you can't say the AFL are a paragon of transparency.
It had the magic word "Geelong" which the AFL hasn't Cottoned On to yet.

Tried to do a wishlist of trades that aren't one-eyed, and left off guys like Steele who aren't coming to us.

Happy to hear some feedback on if I've gone too far one way or the other.

Trades:
1 to Ess for 5, 20, 26 (113 point premium to us)
17, 20 to GC for 7 (93 point premium to GC)
23, 38 to BL for Starcevich, Dev, 43, 46 (values Starc at pick 24, Dev is free)
57 to Rich for Young
Ryan with salary paid, 24 to St.K for F1 (values Ryan around 22, St.K F1 at 10)
Chesser, 26, 38 to Carl for 10, 50 (values Chesser at 28)

Free Agents:
RFA O.Allen to BL for 2
DFA F.Macrae

Draft:
2 CDT
5 Sharp
7 Cumming
10 Farrow
Banfield
Evans
Williams
Walley

Out:
1, 17, 23, 24, 38, 57
O.Allen, Ryan, Chesser, Gov, Sheed, Hunt, Petruccelle, Owies, Jamieson, Rawlinson, Livingstone

In:
2, 5, 7, 10, 43, 46, 50, St.K F1
Starcevich, Dev, Young, F.Macrae, CDT, Sharp, Cumming, Farrow, Banfield, Evans, Williams, Walley

43, 46 & 50 are in the juicy range that should float up to 31-35 after bids are matched, they should then be live-traded back/into next year with teams that like a slider or want points.

Some of Dev, Finlay, Cripps to the rookie list as required for list spots.
I like your thinking. But the Lions and GC are using a different scale to value trades, they value points. Is 93 extra points for GC going to move the needle? I dont think Lions will give both picks in 40s they need to match a top 5 bid plus others.

The PSD isn't gonna happen with Starcevich. He's mentioned he wants his team to be compensated & he would just sign another short contract with the Lions if a deal can't be made. We aren't getting him for free.

That doesn't mean I want to over pay for him though.

I’ve heard this narrative mentioned a couple times in the media. On the flip side, I wonder if there’s any chance Oscar Allen might want to pop up with a word or two to his new employers for the team he has captained.

We already have four third round picks, plus our first round pick, and currently 5 open list spots to take to the draft.

Yes we need points, but we need to consolidate picks, as we’re going to have more picks than what we can actually take in to the draft.

For what it’s worth, I also believe 16 for Starcevich is overs.

Unless we have a trade in the works that hasn’t got out yet, I would think 22 & 37 for Starcevich, 51 & 54, works (for us).
Brisbane's need to consolidate picks is not West Coast's problem. Nor is Starcevich worth 23 let alone 16 or 22 + 37. Brisbane gets nothing if Starcevich leaves.

I'm pretty certain the final result is after your height is subtracted from the measurement...

The only ruckman in the top 10 for either standing vertical or running vertical is Nic Naitanui.
The running vertical is the critical test if he doesn't have height, which he doesn't.

Standing vertical is a measure of strength only. Running vertical is a measure of power and explosiveness.

You're example of nicnat is exactly this. He is only 200cm but had no issues jumping over the 210cm Sandilands or 208cm gawn

No not only are you gaming the system with both free agency and academies but you want to screw down on the 1 game winning wooden spooners after going back to back .

GAGF

WCE will get it done , hope the AFL take away the privileges Northern States get with academies though .

Seriously doubt you'd offer him 6 years at $900 000 TBH.

So you think Brisbane would reject the AFL's assessment of compensation?

FWIW, taking away any Allen situation, if Starc was to go as a free agent on a four-year, $850,000 per year offer (as per Channel 9 news a few weeks ago), that would be band 2 compo, which in Brisbane's case would be an end-of-first-round pick.

But, given that you are getting free agents in, then the compo diminishes, maybe an end of round 3 pick?

So surely Brisbane would be ok with anything they could get better than that. So why are they asking for so much overs?

My guess is that Brisbane are doing exactly what has made them a premiership team and trying to dominate weak opposition. Hopefully our recruitment team can show some guts and stick it out for a reasonable trade (perhaps in the vicinity of a mid 2nd rounder)

Just do what hawks did and trade them away
This is what I would do if I were in West Coast’s shoes.

Both teams are playing the unders/overs game.

Brisbane are asking for the Hawks pick, West Coast are offering their second round pick.

We’ll probably settle on your PP, then table the Oscar paper work.

End of the day, your club doesn’t want to re-sign Oscar at what we’re offering, and we don’t want to re-sign Starc at what you’re offering.

West Coast or which ever team ends up with your second round pick shouldn’t care if you hand over the PP, as the PP is right before your second round pick anyway, and will get swallowed up in us matching an academy bid.

It matters to us as it’s worth a few extra points.

What type of salary cap do Brisbane have given your paying inflated values for 2 free agents this year

If we don't bid on Gold Coast's players, they save 740 points.

After the hostage video he was made to do…. I believe that bridge was burnt then and there.

Yeh nah, you're not matching 900x6. You're in cap space purgatory if you did.

I doubt he would be happy to be signing a 2 year deal at 500k per year at Brisbane as opposed to 900k a year for 6 years with us.

Just tell Brisbane & GC we won't bid on any of there players so we get favourable deals from both of them. Saves both clubs points.

Walking away with 1, 2, 6, Starc plus more would be great work
Yep and then bid on them anyway, fk'm both.
