It wouldve been unlikely to get down to us or Sydney with Serong if Humphries was in the background as a preferred (and available) target right?maccamk how positive were you on the Humphries move?
If Geelong are supposedly still in the hunt for Curnow, he must be involved coming this way...
Contract, trade cost, and role in team do make him a pretty unattractive prospect tbh.No-one has shown interest in Simpkin yet, apparently.

As in life ...the price paid for something quickly fades.Draft wise, absolutely
Trade wise, nope, constantly overpays
I'd love it if he focused on the drafting and list while letting somebody else do the negotiations at the trade table personally
Mmmmm now I'm not not sure if I overrate McVee or underrated Blacres
Not a bad theory though. Always possible thats why Serong went Sydney, they were committed with no ifs or buts.Probably, fair call
Bit of a key difference is that we clearly didnt want Acres at all. Melbourne want to keep McVeeI think he was much maligned and under rated by most. When Carlton was up and about he was massive in being a part of that.
We are yet to fill that gap.
I’m unsure why all the laughs at my post. The idea is the same. Out of contract player and we received a 3rd rounder. McVee hasn’t done a thing. Is out of contract. He’s still speculative and proven nothing.
This thread did a few weeks ago. People were going on about him like he was Nick Daicos. It was bizarre.No-one has shown interest in Simpkin yet, apparently.
Well maybe they should’ve offered him a better deal with a more promised role thenBit of a key difference is that we clearly didnt want Acres at all. Melbourne want to keep McVee

We offered him a shit deal and didnt really want him to stay. Its always between the lines on these things. Same as WC and Allen.Short memories? We had certainly offered Acres an extension. It was considered cheap and he looked elsewhere.
100% we offered him a deal.
McVee is no different. Demons offered him an extension. No idea on value, but we swooped.
They’re literally almost the same.
Same thing about to happen with Fiorini from Gold Coast as well. Has nominated Essendon who won't want the Draper compensation impacted.FA compo is completely broken when Melbourne elect to trade for Miocheck instead of diluting their pick 42 received for spargo, it’s become a pick manufacturing factory rather than just allowing players to move around. These two players should just move with Pies getting a pick based on Dees deal, likely next to nothing.

Langdon is a better comparison IMO. Better player, more proven and similar situation.

Oh surprise surprise another AFL initiative designed so “everyone wins” has turned into joke.Same thing about to happen with Fiorini from Gold Coast as well. Has nominated Essendon who won't want the Draper compensation impacted.
That's three players - Starcevich, Fiorini and Mihocek.
Restricted free agency should mean Brisbane has to trade for either Allen or Draper and basically have to make to call between one of them abd their academy kid. Yes, I'm aware Draper wasn't restricted but if Essendon would lose him for nothing they don't let it happen.
Free agency compensation picks being removed stops this double and triple dipping. It's almost as bad as the FSs and academies IMO.
Geelong offered just their first pick but it ended up being more sp yes.To further illustrate my point. What was Bailey worth? Well he was worth what Geelong offered. Did they compromise?

I've said this before. I reckon if Smith was walked into the draft he gets to Geelong's pick.
If Acres was walked into the draft I reckon Carlton gets him with their last draft pick but that's debatable.
McVee wouldn't make it past West Coast's picks. Basic supply and demand.
Guys genuinely worth a first rounder shouldn't be free agents IMO but we've gone too far with this system and the AFLPA are too powerful for us to go back.Oh surprise surprise another AFL initiative designed so “everyone wins” has turned into joke.
T they seriously can’t seem to understand a competition is a zero sum game and only gets more magnified the more they want to meddle in outcomes around player movement.
The fact that we’re now getting clubs trading for free agents to “protect “ compo picks in the 30s/40s is beyond laughable.
Xander McGuire said on a poddy that Simpkin was front loaded and that's why north probably won't let him goContract, trade cost, and role in team do make him a pretty unattractive prospect tbh.
No but what would happen if they did does still impact trade value IMO.Here’s the thing. Are Melbourne knocking back 32 and walking him to PSD?
Free agency was for the players not the clubs. I'm not sure how we got to this. Pretty sure in MLB a committee decides how much the club have to pay, pick wise, for a free agent.Guys genuinely worth a first rounder shouldn't be free agents IMO but we've gone too far with this system and the AFLPA are too powerful for us to go back.
Removing free agency compensation picks or staying with this current mess are the only options I see as viable.

Makes sense, have paid him a big part of his contract, they just get stung if he leaves now
