It isn't even the pick value thats the main issue, its that we have downgraded the first round pick

There will now be 7 players in between our picks that we have lost a chance to pick, there was a real chance of a top talent sliding like Reid did last year, we have wiped out that chance now

In a draft that isn't known for its depth this is a massive gap.
There is more to the equation.

Can we get a good player at 19 or wherever it lands?
How else can we pay for Judd?
Are we willing to give away a f2 or f3 in drafts that are better than this one.

When you eliminate all other possibilities I think we come to the conclusions that breaking up 12 is the only sensible way to get the needed value for McVee.

It is likely a situation of choose between getting McVee and keeping 12. If this was last year's draft the equation would have been different and 33 may have been enough. Under this draft it is agreed 33 is not a valuable pick.

No, we had the whole trade period of the busiest trade period of all time to get something done and hes uncontracted. That argument doesnt fly

Also, I asked you guys to close the place down. Chop chop, get to it please it seems even my trade melts cant hit the servers hard enough

This is what’s most bemusing to me, I don’t understand why we blew our loads on day 2 of such a busy trade period for an OOC player. Doubly so with so much movement yet to come out of Melbourne (Oliver, Petracca, May etc.)

And if we had any other targets up our sleeve we wouldn’t have done a trade that benefited us in no way. Walls just wants an early holiday

No, he is out of contract and we are 2 days into the trade period

Are you suggesting all options have been exhausted already?

There are a shit tonne of pick swaps that are going to come, Dees likely end up with 14, we could have slid to that later in the period (I still wouldn't like it but its a hell of a lot better than this)

GC will be flipping picks for points throughout the period.

Carlton will be chasing points throughout the period.

Port have been rumoured to want out of the draft so will have picks up for swap as the period drags on.

Your logic only applies if McVee was contracted, it also makes 0 excuse for not waiting to see how this period plays out with so many trades yet to go through (which means a lot of picks changing hands and opening doors)

Thats possibly the scarier part, if nothing else comes of trade period, there's half a chance it was out of abject laziness...

Ill reserve that melt for after trade period though because if a bunch of people think im melting now...

Alright who wants to huff some copium

Who have we got lined up with pick 19?

12 was too much for them but 19 gets it done and net is Mcvee and player for 12, 33 and 50

Lawson Humphries come on down?
I suppose it is about right for Humphries but then what in the world do we plan on doing to address having arguably zero small forwards on our list outside the best 23...

I agree that the outcome is what counts. But this deal as reported does seem like chucking away any flexibility, foolishness.

Hope the club knows what they are doing (because I don’t)
Yeah throwing away the flexibility is so wild

It's like we put all the chips in, for a dud trade and now we don't have anything to play with

Its flipping wild

I actually thought Walls spoke a lot clearer and sounded competent when interviewed by Cal the other day. As opposed to previous years when’s it’s all been over his head.
All for him to come out and cook this so hard!

I can’t wait to hear him try put a positive spin on it
