Tim Watson on SEN this morning saying how ridiculous it is the AFL have given us pick 2 for someone like Oscar Allen and how it’s ’assistance’.

Gary Lyon then explains to him how the free agency compo system actually works and he goes “oh, I didn’t know that”

😂

As an-WCE listed player Watson should be a little more considerate to our cause.

Good trade for Ryan.

For all those complaining let me point out a few things to consider.

1. He’d be 30 years old next trade period and a free agent. The club wouldn’t be offering him a 2-3 year deal so chances are he leaves, especially after trying to for the past two years. What type of compo do you think we’re going to get? We’d be lucky to get any but let’s say Band 4 at best. That’s still an end of second round. Band 5 is 3rd round.

2.Next years draft won’t be as compromised as this year and with the AFL tightening the rules and values it’s going to be much harder for clubs to match. So better draft, better pick.

3. What do you honestly think a 3rd rounder in the 2027 draft is going to be worth with Tassie coming and already receiving 1,3,5,7,9,11 & 13. That’s already pushing the first pick of the third round to 45. Add on top of that our improvement and academy/father and son and that pick is in the 50’s. It’s worthless.

We let him go a year earlier and potentially get a pick at the worst in a good draft anywhere between 25-35. SOLD.

Seeya Flyin Ryan.

Thanks for the memories.

A FF3 will be in the Tasmanian compromised draft. I'm okay with that.

Tassie have 7 picks in the 1st round plus the 1st of Rd 2 and 3 so the absolute earliest (if we finish last) that Rd 3 pick is 46....before any compo or bidding

Its likely to be a high 50s/low 60s pick

This is a disgusting deal, our 2027 F3 going back to them is hilarious. God Clark stinks.

Mate. If we are still bottom of the ladder at the end of 2027, Harley will walk for 4 first rounders, relax we will have picks.

If we have improved like we all hope, that FF3 will be say 45 and there F2 next year will be say 25. Rating Ryan at about pick 30. Now they win the flag and we win the spoon then it's shit. But that's the risk you take backing yourself in to be better by 2027. Also, remember 2027 is Tassie draft compromised

Good trade. Ryan looked pretty disinterested at times this year and was always quick to point the finger or blame a team mate when it didn’t go to plan. Think he’s an awesome player when he’s inspired but just not the player we need for rebuild. Does leave a pretty big void though so hopefully Long, Brockman, or Owies are able to step up this year.

Not looking forward to him sitting on Youngs head next year at Optus :(

Well, our small forward stocks are officially terrible.

Plenty of opportunity for Champion, Newton, Long and anybody else to lock down regular playing time in the senior side. Hell, even Owies could do it if he remembers how to play footy again!

Would rather have kept Ryan for that tbh, but it’s not the worst

Ryan will be missed on game day no doubt - clearly a best 22 player and one of our genuine X factor types

To counter that -
• If it wasn’t this year he’d be gone as a UFA next so we’re talking about one more year of Ryan only
• He’s had surgeries on both hamstrings and while he proved durable this year he will always be a ticking time bomb
• Good mentor for the indigenous lads but he’s the antithesis of a training standard setter. He’s not a good trainer and the unkind would describe him as lazy although I wouldn’t go that far personally
• Many critics of the club have accused us of being soft on players and giving them too much leeway- Ryan would be Exhibit A in that case
• We are tight on list spots so trading Ryan out gives us the ability to bring another draftee in like Tylah Williams or Koby Evans
• His absence gives us 23 games across the season to provide development opportunity to another player
• It also allows McQualter to expand the role and responsibility given to a player like Brockman or Champion

I’ll miss not watching him out there for West Coast and the thought of him in a Saints jumper is borderline nauseating but it’s part of moving on from the ghosts of recent seasons

Yep, always thought it was going to be a futures pick considering how good our draft hand is this year. Don't mind it, gets out another unmotivated player.
I remember thinking after watching Ryan in a few games mid year that Ryan should go back to Wafl and that we should just trade him cos his efforts werent what a senior player should put up.
