Current Draft Picks:
Round 1: 1, 2, 13

If Carlton accept the Geelong offer of 19 and future 1sts for Curnow.

We might be able to trade 34, 53 and Chesser to them for 19. Values Chesser at pick 32 and gives points to Carlton for Dean and Ison bids.

Gives WCE an opportunity to trade up to pick 4 with 13 and 19. Richmond had mentioned prior they are willing to split.

Take 1,2,4 to the draft and get bid happy.

So what midfielder do you have earmarked with that pick.

By the way have you seen LD play ?
I went back and had a look at some of Dovaston's games and he is certainly a high end talent.
Bit of a campaigner with his ducking, but undeniable skills and agility.
Bit of a C Weightman type and the toughness of L Baker.

The question is if we keep the 13 pick who do we have a crack at there where he will be around that pick with options probably being Phillipou?

We have a bucket load of HF/SF types in the younger stocks in Long, Newton, Champion, Dewar, and T Williams, Walley in 2025 and another crew of McGlade, Farmer, E Williams in 2026 coming.

These will be filtered through reasonably quickly imo to find the right players but it probably is less of a need as a position but quality players are needed?

And then Ryan leaves next year as a RFA, tell me what do you think at his age at the end of next year would we get for him?
Band 4 would be 10 picks later band 5 would be 12 picks later than the F2 but we kept ryan for an extra year

Keeping good players and starting a winning culture is way more important.

Do we think our side will be better next season than this season ?

Have we fixed our midfield problem ?

Do we now have a small forward problem ?

Yes

Gone a fair way towards it after the trade and draft period is over. Yes
Do we now have a small forward problem ?
No we don’t, we’ll a plethora of young forwards after our NGA picks and Malakai Champion to run through there.

Not any more.

Cripps likely delisted and rookies as well and I recon we might find both playing a lot of WAFL.

This will be the year Mini stamps his mark on the team he wants.
Certainly seems that way, here's hoping he puts his stamp on the place this preseason.

Yeah good shit, as he should - dog act from St Kilda, offered every man and their dog a contract but didn't have the capital to get a deal done.

Hugely embarrassing. Lucky they drafted literally everyone this year, because players and their managers will be weary of working with em'.

Imagine the impact on Leek - he's been courted and accepted an offer, told his club & team mates that he wants out, is preparing to pack up and move his life (& partners life perhaps) to another state and literally at the last minute gets the rug pulled out from him because St Blunders couldn't pay their checks.
I looked on the St Kilda page and they seemed to be celebrating it - like hey no more Mr Nice Guy, we're doing what's best for the club! Uh okay you completely torched a player and his agent by offering a contract and then not doing what was required to trade for him. They're acting like GWS were asking massive overs, but by all accounts GWS wanted a future 2nd for him. That's a completely reasonable request given that he's a 24 year old key defender who played almost every game the second half of the season, including in their finals loss, and was being offered upwards of $700k per year on a 4 year contract. It should have been quite easy to get the deal done, except that St Kilda ran out of money and draft picks.

Aleer still has an offer from GWS and another club may come into the picture, but his manager is right to be pissed off. Hopefully the Saints crash and burn; their supporters seem to have gotten a bit high on their own supply after one offseason when they managed to attract some talented players. And of course their senior coach and management are just douchebags.

Wonder what the least amount of years a premiership team has evaporated by 7years ago and to only have 4 guys left seems a reasonably quick drop.

Maybe a question for the useless stats bloke.
Sam Butler was our only player in both the 2006 + 2015 GFs.

Swans after 2019 only had three left:
Parker
JPK
Sam Reid

I don't mind moving on guys while they still have currency.

True.

I would also say that alarm bells should have been ringing for the manager (and Ryan's manager) when it developed that the Saints were chasing half a dozen players. Somebody was always going to get burned and left hanging.

Would he join West Coast, no?? Should the club enquire, 100%.

The amount he could teach the young blokes would be amazing.

He's definitely going to end up at somewhere like Gild Coast though.
After the kidney injury he was a shadow of his former self and the coin he'd want is probably not worth it.

Really?

I think much more chance he never gets involved at club level again, hangs out with his mates, dodges the media and rarely seen in public.

Sounds like saints weren’t expecting to get everyone to say yes 🤣
100% as soon as silvagni came as a Free agent aleers services were not required.

The whole GWS were being hard to deal with was just an out .

Saints wanted to keep marshall too .

Bringing in TDK flanders Ryan Silvagni without losing anyone of note will definitely make them a better side

Not sure how liam ryan is going to go with ross lyon as a coach

I would have saints being close to finals next season with their influx of talent so say F2 end up 27-30 band 4 is 37 - 38 so about 10 picks band 5 for us would be after our 3rd and probably about 39-40 .

How have we fixed our midfield?

Yeo back ? Has been said he will return to the backline
Starcivich is a defender
Young in a backman
Dev ? Do you have dev fixing our midfield?
Or one of these delistees going onto the rookie list ?
Or are we going to draft someone to fix our midfield in their first year .

Can’t see them having the points if they trade these out for pick 24 to match pick 1 and 2.

If they trade pick 7 then we're going shopping for Patterson with 1 and Suns know it.

Suns will offer them 8 and a future first and some scraps and Demons will take it because no one else can offer anything close to that.

I'd be more than happy to take Patterson and Duurmsa with 1 & 2 and then whoever slides at 13.

You do realise we have been drafting potential midfielders since 2021? Sure, not all will come on, but if Hewett and Harley go to another level we probably look good on-ball. Maybe Hall, Dewar, Brockman etc chime in too. Then we have seasoned bodies in Graham and Dev for some pressure.

That doesn't give is a top 8 midfield, but I think that's 2-3 seasons away when the 2024/2025 draftees hit their straps.
