Didn't Kinnear just recently have a bit of a winge about how we threatened to walk Dawson to the PSD? and how they had to fold because of that?

Which says to me Reid isn't adverse to throwing the card on the table
Wasn't it more that the Swans were very aware that Adelaide had that very real option when negotiating?

Phillipou and Latrelle Pickett could both be really good as well, and should be available. Cumming could also be gettable if we are willing to trade up a few spots.

Jeff Dahlitz is also very intriguing, half back with elite pace and kick. Definitely a need for us with Smith gone and Laird and Milera aging.
Was it Harley Barker who did his ACL? He'll probably be in our range too

Ah Chee is 28 and uncontracted. F2 is fair value.

Of course they don’t have the take it but it’s a little rich they’d not let a loyal servant go that helped them win 2 flags that is going to get a bump for their last ever contract when a fair value is on the table.

It’s also a club that has just benefited hugely from FA and single-handedly ruined the draft due to F/S and academies that have caused the AFL to change the rules.

I don’t blame any club trying to get the best deal, but there’s driving a hard bargain and then there’s entitlement.

They can’t in one breath say we’re not matching the contract Crows are offering whilst also saying you’re too valuable to let you go unless we get a kings ransom. They’ve chosen to let him leave by giving his money to Draper and Allen. It’s different for superstars that the clubs will match or increase the salary. But when you don’t value them enough to be the best contract, you should facilitate a fair trade.

There is a lot to play out in trade week so I’m sure it gets done around the mark but I can get why some are frustrated.

Everything you’re saying they can’t do they can do, it’s all garbage. They owe him nothing, he owes them nothing. Their job is to get maximum value from trading out the asset. If they think we’re susceptible due to our particular circumstances, then it’s their job to leverage that. They’re doing exactly what we’d want Reid to be doing if the shoe was on the other foot.

I can’t understand why people are frustrated. There’s nothing to be frustrated about, it’s obvious that Lions want more. Fancy being frustrated because a highly competent AFL club haven’t just buckled at our first offer.

I suppose these could be the same posters that saw every Noble capitulation to move onto other deals as resounding successes. That would make sense.

I can’t wait to start reading how if Lions don’t buckle soon, no player will ever want to go there again. Meanwhile dip$hit Lions fans will be saying that if we don’t pony up no player will ever want to be traded to us ever again.

I love trade week or so, should start a thread about it.

He's an uncontracted player, and has nominated a club. A future second is below his value, but most likely what the trade will end up being.

These kinds of trades always go one of two ways. Either both clubs shake hands very quickly and move onto other things, or else it drags out to the final day only to end up being roughly what was proposed on day one.

The Crows clearly don't have much else going on this trade period, so there is no need for us to blink early. We'll stick to our guns, wait until the final day, then likely throw in a steak knife or two as a sweetener at the end, and we'll all move on.
A future 2nd for an uncontracted 28 year old decent role player is really not underpaying looking at historical trades.

It'll be a Future 2nd and a switch of Future 3rds in the end but you're right Brisbane have to look like they are getting the best deal possible

Reid on now on Gettable..unlikely we trade in anyone else other than Ah Chee. Literally just mentioned organic growth and said the Dogs shut down the Sanders talk very quickly. He did mention Reid was trying to get a multiclub pick trade working early in the trade period but not sure how that sits - it was to try and get pick 29 for Ah Chee?

Ho hum, off to the draft
Ah Chee is a good in, but I'm worried the club is getting complacent - by not looking to add to our midfield, or top up our depth.

If you stand still at AFL level you go backwards.

I think Oliver would've fit our needs perfectly, and given he's a salary dump I'm personally disappointed we didn't chase him harder. George Stevens would also be a good get, having lost Crouch, Schoenberg and big doubts on Berry. Brisbane show you can never have too many good mids.

I know Read and Ogilvie don't prioritise rucks, but another small forward (eg Rosas), or another winger (especially if injuries strike / if Curtin moves inside) would be good to future proof our list. We know guys like Jones and Sholl aren't the answer.

We'll see if Reid has an ace up the sleeve

Wouldn't you want to talk up your club?

Arrogant in your dealings is something else though.

The rumor at the time was that we sold the club like Day would be privileged to play for Adelaide and should thank us for approaching him

Unless it came directly from the player or his manager it's in the take it with a grain salt category.

It’ll be a F2 + one of our thirds, no doubt

Probably goes through at 7:25pm
Yep, Cal Twomey has been saying ages he saw this being a last hour type deal. The trade will get done, Brisbane just hoping Adelaide blink and offer a 1st, but know deep down it'll get done for the F2 and late pick swaps.

Think the intention was to secure Draper then let O'Brien walk

Don’t think so, we wouldn’t want to be relying on a guy that’s never carried first ruck and coming back from a long term injury. I think the plan was that Draper would play predominately forward and transition to first ruck over a couple of seasons. Giving ROB a 3rd year was not related as our primary concern was always competing in 2026 and 2027. Blowing a 3rd year on ROB was preferred ahead of blowing 2026 and 2027 without an experienced first ruck.

He's out of contract. He's chosen his new workplace, he has that right, like any other Australian. Forget the rest of it. He'll get to Adelaide.

Now we are talking nonsense. We need to supply something to Brisbane that they’ll accept or he’ll have to reconsider where he wants to go or run the gauntlet in a draft.

Unless you genuinely reckon Callum Ah Chee is going to court to bring down the entire AFL draft and trade system.

If Smith came with Ah Chee, I’d be giving up our first for sure.

Absolutely not

Henry Smith would be worth a 3rd round pick at best. He is a depth ruckman at Brisbane with no clear path into the firsts now that Draper is their first ruck and they still have Fort on the list

The value of Ah Chee (2nd round pick) + Henry does not equal pick 16

Or, and this might be a novel idea, his management says "He's going to Adelaide" and nobody else drafts him

No Big Oscar though, and Draper wont play for half the year.

I just watched it. It was an interview with Morris, he spoke at length about Dawson, concluding with "Port dropped out and we couldn't get North involved, So at the end of the day they could always walk him to the PSD, they knew it, we knew it and they'd done it before with Jackson Hately".

So my assumption from his choice of words/delivery was that Sydney were trying everything for that not to eventuate, but Reid made it known that he'd done it before and he'd do it again.

Can't possibly know the second part for sure, but that would be my interpretation.

Fort will carry the ruck until Draper is available

It doesn't change Smith's value anyway. Depth players are not worth more than 3rd round picks, just look at the history of trades
