Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

I'm fairly certain that Rowbottom's rise a few years' back was the reason Sydney were happy to part with Hewett. Like him a lot.

I dont think Geelong were ever willing to cough up for Charlie. They have bigger gaps on their list.

I think their offer was just the bare minimum so they can tell Charlie they tried. That way they stay in the good books in case he wants another crack next year. Or unlikely but best case we crack and take it because we see the situation as untenable.

Geelong aren't serious, but they at least got to distract from some of the other tools in the shed. IMO, most likely Charlie is still a Blue next year...

Grian Miers strength is that he's damaging when there isn't any space.

Just as Lord has been unjustly pigeon-holed as some kind of plodder inside mid, I feel Rowbottom is also more than that. A good player is a good player, I would rather get Cripps out of there permanently and put somebody in that can actually run and contribute defensively.

I think they always knew we wouldn’t take that offer and instead are trying to entice StKilda take the first round pick they offered for Marshall. It’s scare tactics…..but SoS isn’t going to fall for that.

With all due respect, that is a very negative take on it, and imo probably driven mostly be the lack of fanfare in the way Miers goes about his business. Miers works brilliantly in tight - it’s his greatest weapon: weaving in tight situations and hitting targets on the way out. He’s also a great runner.

Cats would never give him up but he would make a massive difference to us.

Trying to understand why Gold Coast would want Rowbottom at all either...

He's a fine player, but their midfield is stacked with a good mix of players and they'll continue to get opportunities to add top 10 midfield types every other year via their academy.

They lack depth around the ball. Rowell and Anderson are obviously terrific players, but it drops off sharply from there. They like Miller at half-forward, and Humphrey probably doesn't have the tank to stay in the middle for any length of time. Alex Davies had some good games in the second half of the year, but struggled in the September furnace.

I think Rowbottom would be a good fit for them, but there isn't any indication he's actually interested in moving, plus they're obviously committed to Petracca, which wouldn't give them a lot of room to move.

My take is Mackie's bid is just to show a response to Charlie's interest in wanting to go to Geelong.
Sends the message that they are interested now and likely in future if it isn't going to happen this time.
