And as Foxman pointed out have won as many premierships as us in the last decade, technically 1 less

Cool. Why draw the line at a decade though? Last five years we’ve won the same amo Of premierships as Richmond and made more GFs

After this trade period who do you think is closer to winning a premiership next - Dogs or Cats/ Hawks?
Seriously who cares what I think. Facts are Geelong has thrown the kitchen sink at players, literally cheated the system for a grand total of 1 flag in the last 10 years. The Hawks have been trying to do something similar, no flags in the last 10 seasons.

Going into 2017 where would you have rated the Tigers after their 2016? Where would you have rated the Eagles going in to 2018 after scraping into 8th in 2017?

In most cases teams bring in specific role players to fill in weaknesses as the above 2 did. We are bringing in Baudrick who fills one of our biggest needs, who knows how that works

Because this is the timeframe of the current trading rules that supposedly we failed in and the Hawks and the Cats dominated. They didn't. Apparently Essendon won a lot of trade periods during this time, how is that going for them

And also will point out another fact, this trade period is not close to finished

The club said no to a trade, no reports on if Sanders was receptive to the advances.
I still haven't seen a case put forth why he would be.

And if he was we'd have heard about it by now.

I really should take a break from this thread. Its starting to do my head in.

That's overs for current Petracca imo. Fair enough pre injury but he hasn't been the same since
It’s a massive overpay if they didn’t have academy bids coming in, Dees will send back a bunch of junk picks to help them. So in essence Suns would have turned Flanders and pick 8 into Petracca and the academy kids.

RE: “or become what should’ve been an AA KPF” - we shouldn’t forget that when Darcy was drafted and for most of his first year we didn’t know whether he’d be a KPF or KPD, so that comment really applies to both him and Naughts.

It's odd (or is it?) that most of our young and talented talls seem to be tried early as forwards, even those like Naughton who came to the club known only as a defender. Are goalkickers more glamorous? Are they that much harder to find? Is it because defenders take longer to develop than forwards?

Is a 70 goal forward even necessary? We kicked more H&A goals than any other club in 2025 and our leading goalkicker was Naughton with 59. Brisbane won the flag and their leader was Logan Morris with 48 H&A goals. It's great to boast a power KPF like Jeremy Cameron or a Buddy Franklin but that doesn't guarantee you a flag.

Let me ask this question. How many goals a year is a top line defender worth? If you could seamlessly (ie without unsettling the player) convert either Darcy or Naughton from a 50+ goal KPF to an AA-winning KPD in 2026, would you do it?

Given our diverse scoring power and our current KPD malaise I'd certainly consider it, especially if I could be sure Croft could slot into the vacancy as a 30 goal second string KPF. The newly minted KPD would have to be more than just an interceptor though.

Why would we hear anything of it, if the club shut it down immediately? No benefit to anyone for that information to leak out.
There was more than enough time between Adelaide making their interest know. And the club shutting it down for Sanders management to whisper their interest in a move to any number of people looking for an opportunity to be first with the news during this typically interminable Trade Period.

It feels to me like Sanders has been a victim of a drive by shooting. Especially in here where he's seen as disposable in peoples thirst to be part of a trade. Any trade. The names are always different but its a cycle that we see repeat every single Trade Period.

Unless something of interest actually happens.

Ive had enough spinning of wheels and going around in circles.

Norm. Out.
