Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Williams is easily our best performing small forward. Cutting him over bitterness about how much the club paid him in his previous contract isn’t my idea of good list management.

How about cutting any of the lesser small forwards on our list first?
He’s been very well looked after.
If he plays on with us, it’s on min chips almost as an act of good faith.

Have to remember we are talking about depth. It’s a top 30 that wins flags. Cripps & Hewett are wrong side of 30. Rowbottom Jagga Lord Cerra Walsh Walker could easily be the core midfield of our next great side. The X factor is then what Wilson Moir Ollie Chesser BenC can become. I think Ainsworth Motlop and maybe Elijah can add midfield minutes. Pick 3 this year as well?

IMO that’s bloody exciting.
Just disagree with Rowbottom and by a bit. Just not a need no matter how you look at it.
Lord and Ben C developing to take over Cripps and Hewett. Cerra, Walsh and Smith plus what?
Just add another one or two mids with pace and carry to develop and KP forward and back.
We aren’t far off if we do it right.

Don't sleep on Reidy... he played there in WAFL and was decent enough. Kemp 1st, then HOK to challenge him, Reidy/Young = break glass in case of emergency options.

Need to move away from conditional players like Gov imo.
Yes, a massive bugbear with his performances.

Not sure if the forward line could assist his attack on the footy & self-preservation shown.

No. Apparently we don't rate KPDs. I've been worried since Jones left.
Likewise, as the only KPD type Austin had recruited (in 4 drafts....) since Jones left was Kemp at 192cm and he is more of a utility type, unless they thought Lemmy was going to eventually play there. It took Austin 5 drafts to finally pick a KPD in O' Farrell and he looks like he may be ok as long as he recovers from his knee injury. Dean is very much needed in our battling backline, so not much pressure on him at all is there.......

Sos drafted kemp

Austin has bought in young Haynes and hof

I've actually got Moir as the guy everyone wants Bailey Humphrey to be for us.
Bailey is your Petracca\Degoey type, Moir is your Fritsch\Dempsey type.

Subtle differences but Moir is not a brutish type of footballer, he’s your silk. I do love that the coaches gave him minutes in the midfield I just don’t think that’s what he’ll end up doing though

Agree with your sentiment Matty.

Still annoys me that a dh like Curnow was happy to sign a six year extension two years ago, and now wants out.

Why didn’t he just sign a two year extension that would have taken him to the FA stage, he would have had clubs queuing up for his services - imagine what the Saints would have offered him!
Perhaps he was genuinely happy at the time and we were looking like becoming a prominent finals team with the list we had, in his eyes…

I’m not excusing his behavior in how this has played out during this year and once the season has finished, dispite he’s injuries over the years I’ve been one of many who have called out his lazy half arsed defensive efforts since his injury comeback…

Always moved very well when he was presenting but couldn’t chase an opponent within a few metres of him, predominantly gave fk all true efforts…

He’s one of the league’s most talented KPF’s who can and has destroyed teams single handily, he was right to sign the contract offer we offered him, just a pity things have gone south with him, whatever his reasons might be…

Jagga, Walsh, Walker, Lord look good, but that is 3 years away from maturing.

Not sure Wilson is x factor, he was just getting a game. Ben C hasnt played game and Ollie will hopefully be a good solid running AFL player.

Moir is the only x factor i think.

It shows you me we still need high end picks/talent.

That list is simply too thin for me.

Interesting to note the difference between Geelong & Sydney.

Swans have a genuine interest in getting CC and are working on a serious picks + players deal (by all reports).

Cats only genuine interest is in destabilizing CC and hoping he puts enough pressure on to force a completely one-sided deal. It has been their strategy under Mackie.

2 picks in the 20s and one in the 30s for Curnow is beyond insulting. Almost as bad as what they gave the dogs for Smith last year - which was embarrassing.

Clubs and managers have got to start informing their players that if they're thinking of moving clubs just don't consider Geelong as the deal just won't get done.

The idea that they could go after Curnow without giving up any players is beyond me. They should have just said to CC straight away - we'd like to have you but it's not for us as we don't like you enough to trade out ANY player on our list.
Absolutely correct, as Mackie is an even worse snake oil salesman than the famous Dodo was, and wouldn`t give away the smell of his ***** without getting something back in his favour!!!

And McDonald, Sam Durdin, Akuei. Matt Duffy is also listed as a key defender. HOK is more Fwd Ruck. He’s had five drafts too, but very few high end picks to work with, so we’ve been picking up value types - so we’ve had a few missed with injury or not coming on.

Name me the last bloke we gave a chop out to as talented as EH?

Don’t include the ones we recruited of recent who had injuries or rocked up to preseason rotund?
McGovern has been getting a chop out for years, ditto Williams (both fitness) before the last season or two. Acres (among plenty of others) has had a chop out all 2025 (form).

Charlie probably deserves a mention for how he’s handled his rehab at times too.

And if you’re asking me to exclude the guys that turned up out of shape isn’t that the whole point 😂

There’s no doubt the footy department has been doing that for years and most of us are pissed off about that.

And again; injecting the talent narrative into a discussion that is fundamentally about professional standards is the actual problem.

So then when the right decisions finally get made to set standards without exception - and regardless of talent - people lament that it means certain players have to be let go. Go figure…

Exciting and agreed. When we rebuilt this team from the ground up it was the twin towers you had to have in your forward line make up. Then Richmond started winning flags with just Riewoldt bringing it to ground and small forwards. Yes then they brought in Lynch but you can see it in the Hawks model that is how it is done now. Brisbane won it with no notable key forwards this year it was all small forwards and mids. Yes they had Daniher and Hipwood the year prior but you dont need 2 talls anymore. Geelong had the twin towers. The game changed during our rebuild. Small forwards and pace on the ball rebounding from 50 can do the job. Most importantly guys who can kick. Hit targets. Lower eyes.

Florent is good and a perfect fit for us and excellent ball user.

I don't know why he has fallen out of favour at the Swans. I'm happy to go along with the notion he is suddenly very average, so that he is only steak knives in any deal, but secretly I think he's a very good player and would walk into our 23.

Ok calling it: 11, F1, Hayward, McInerny.

We should have a competition and see who’s closest to the pin.
I think your choices would be hard to beat but I am not as convinced about the F1 from the Swans, because if they have Charlie playing for them next season their F1 might be almost as far back in the draft as the Cats F1. Hayward would be my priotity choice and even though McInerney is an outside mid he is a very good two way runner and would be rather handy for Carlton (is from Melbourne as well)......

Some concerns about Hayward starting to form here. I see him very much as a Jack Martin replacement. Forward craft and good hands.

I see Moir as a forward/midfielder and still a slow burn.

I see Kemp as a third tall, and occasional second tall.

McKay, Kemp, Hayward, Ainsworth, Motlop and another KPF fill in.
Don't forget HOK. Ruck/Forward for a couple more years.

Hayward, 11, Syd F1 and Collingwood F1

… that would be in line with yazz‘s 3 first round picks next year.

We could then package up 10 and 11 to get us Walter or Humphrey and still bring in some points to match Dean and Ison.

Edit: probably overkill from a Sydney perspective .. but I can dream.
