He’s clearly better than Banfield or Worner, so don’t think they’re going to be too disappointed.
They’re place holders anyway. Tired of people bringing them up every time we’re linked to a defender. Will always maintain that the two in the WAFL were better but towards the end of the year when we were winning most games you had to do a lot wrong to get dropped.

He’ll come in and be b23 sure, but I’d be surprised if we notice a significant difference with him in the team vs Walker/Simpson

He will use the ball better and not be a turnover king like Walker and also Simpson is completely untested in the backline.

McVee is seriously better than Simpson and Walker is a different type of defender.

We win 16 games last year with Worner and Banfield, so improvement is guaranteed in defense. Simpson showed ball use, I didn't see any hard core defending so I'm not sure why everyone assumes he's going to be some elite player in defense. Walker is a proven shutdown defender and who I would play before Simpson, I guarantee Elliot doesn't kick 6 on us with Walker playing and Pickett doesn't kick 5.

4) trade 12 to Bombers for 21&27, plonk 27 on the table for McVee and keep 33, 44 & 50, in the dees want a sweetener they can have 44 added to 27 and we still keep 33 and 50.
Bombers are desperately trying to move up and pairing our 12 with their 5/6 is more likely to get it done than 21 or 27
For this to be an option though you have to assume we didnt consider it nor raise it with Essendon? Which surely seems quite unlikely.

Nobody is assuming that. We are assuming that his ball use is better than everyone else coming out of the backline other than maybe Clark.

Under selling Simpson people. One of our most skilled.Great by foot and hand.Like Reid, Murphy Reid, he has great peripheral vision and sees things others don't.
Never flustered very composed.
Just because he hasn't played much, don't under estimate him.

Honestly it's more than we deserve for him. It's our fault for offering Brodie one of the worst contracts in club history otherwise Brodie would've been delisted.
Agreed

Port F4 won’t be a lot different hopefully to our F3. We can use our F3 and/or our pick in 40’s to move 20 or the 40 pick up. Looks like WC will try to move picks 34/37 to GC for an upgrade and trade their 41 to Tyler Young so some potential for us to upgrade slightly to get Fred R in the late 30’s/early 40’s.

Maybe, but if he plays in defense he needs to do more than that as he would be the 'small' defender.

We could have slid 1-2 places and picked up 37.

Shoppee 37 and 33 for something to give for McVee.

Who's melting?

Yep, that’s how it’s supposed to work, the team moving up two spots pays a premium to do so. Not gets some bonus points in the 3rd round as well.

No-one underestimates Simpson’s ball use, its elite, the issue is we don’t know his defensive ability and up forward he couldn’t get his hands on it, even at peel.

At Peel he played most of his football in the forward line.Late, the club tried him as a back line player. Then, in a flash, with his dare and dash played off the HBF in the seniors.
He gets the ball often enough, the forward will be tagging him.
He is going to tear the game apart next season.I wouldn't say that Clark is totally a defending HBF either.

It would be somewhat ironic if this does happen and we end up using the future fourth round on Lucas Robinson, who is shaping up to have very similar pros and cons to Brodie.
So now Robinson is a fourth rounder but we still don't want to close up shop on the academies

We could have done that trade and there is no guarantee that 34 and 37 would net us 23/24.

We do know that Melbourne wanted to keep McVee and we do know Pyke said that they would look at having a crack at McVee. Perhaps we felt best to get the deal done early. Maybe we felt best not to put McVee through the stress and just get the deal done.

Brisbane are likely talking smack but still hold out hope that they can convince Cal Ah Chee to stay.
