Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

In fairness, I mentioned yesterday that I think he’s starting to get a bit overrated.

That said, given our draft hand and where Dean is generally rated (along with how even this draft class is) he still represents better value than what we’d likely get otherwise.
If we are re-setting around Walsh/Weiters/Harry's timeline we absolutely need young vets over and above draft picks...outside of servicing our F/S obligations.

Will still need to thread the needle, but there is a way forward for us. Charlie is doing us a solid.

I know some have been claiming Humphrey is becoming more overrated the longer trade week(s) drag on, but I think he would be transformative for us.

Kicks goals, creates for others (equal 8th in league for goal assists), tackles hard and often. Would probably have to go back to Ashman to find a similar 'type' in Navy Blue.

Rod Ashman was great overhead too, and used to drill Torpedo Punt goals to the Heatley Stand end from roughly the end of the Centre Square (in the day's when Princes Park was about 10 metres shorter). ;)

He wanted away around 1978/1979 as well - which is why he probably was left out of the 1979 Premiership side - but he didn't sook up about it put his head down and probably should have won the 1981 Brownlow Medal (the year Round and Quinlan tied for it) but he suffered from the time when we had so many great players that took votes off him - something that Cripps never had a problem with.

:thumbsu: ;)

The Swans don't seem to be the kind of team to blow up a team like they are doing without them knowing what the outcome is going to be. I think they know what's happening.
Blues, Swans & AFL officials already know what the likely outcome will be, just won’t be revealed until 7.29pm on Wednesday…….

Miers is exactly what we need! More so than Hayward or Rowbottom.

We should be telling Geelong it’s Miers and 2 first round picks or Miers, Stengle and a first round pick. Otherwise **** off.

Probably had enough of bottom six Geelong players coming to us - they work well in their system/environment but struggle elsewhere, if they really want Curnow they have to really pony up.

Good news from the Geelong board.

Charlie has "privately nominated" Geelong.

And its a "done deal" that Charlie will be in hoops next season.

:thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:
Yet he hasn't nominated them yet. Surely he would do it asap if he had committed to them.

Ashy wanted to go to North at end of 78 and sat out of footy for a large part of the 79 season trying to get Blues to blink.

Eventually returned late in the season and was BOG vs (guess who).... yep North!

Got injured in last round of h/a season which prevented him from playing the finals series.

Just went for a stroll on the other boards. Syd board seem very divided on how the likes of Rowbottom, Florent and Hayward departing maybe will affect relationships and it’s team. Cats board just seem like they are entitled and like it’s absurd for us to ask for what we want. Stark differences in attitude.

It’s quite simple really. He’s contracted for 4 years. 2 time Coleman medalist recently. Doesn’t matter if he’s 29 or 23. Actually, lucky he’s not 23 because we’d be asking for the world. He hasn’t requested a team to go to specifically. So guess what? Best offer that meets our needs will see him in your colours. Cats fans are the ones finding it difficult to understand tbh lol. You gotta laugh. I really do hope we strike a deal with the Swans and it works out.

I recall that he might have got up for the Grand Final if we had lost in the Second Semi and went to the Preliminary Final, but we won the Second Semi and went straight through to the Grand Final, so there was too big a gap between games where he may have need a run to play, also think that they had brought a loyal servant in Trevor Keogh, lucky they did because he sorted out a few in the Grand Final. :p

Geelong as an organization has the sort of arrogance that Carlton used to.

Until the salary cap stuff.

We too got a slap on the wrist in the late 90's the second hit nearly buried our club.

Wonder if Geelong has learned the lesson from us?

Given they type of players we've recruited and the fact we are giving up someone of CC's calibre, I don't even want to hear about Geelong unless the names of Holmes or Dempsey are in the trade discussion. Don't think we need to replace Charlie with a another Tall and don't even care about their smalls anymore.

They are going be heavily audited for the next while it wouldn’t surprise me if this Geelong shit still keeps coming up in terms of their 3rd party payments. They won’t be able to get away with it anymore if the afl has fined them and sweeped a bit under the rug

Do we think the Charlie trade will happen? Not so sure anymore; given no-one from Sydney appear to want to leave. Not a lot of days left for such a complex trade now.

Interesting given we have traded next years 2nd round. But i guess we have two 1sts to play with in pick swaps.

Jon Ralph reporting here that rival clubs believe Sydney are trying to trade Florent for a F2 which they believe may entice Carlton who will have Cody Walker next year.

Also notes that Rowbottom wants to stay at Sydney despite a recent chat with McRae and that Hayward is "getting his head around" whether he would be prepared for a move in a trade. Notes that Voss is a big fan of Hayward.

Biggest risk I see is that we over-estimate Curnow as an asset. Pressure and expectations of fans adds to this risk.
I’m in the minority, but I’m not a huge fan. I see a guy that goes missing in big games. That doesn’t add more than his own stats, with moderate pressure and intensity. And he’s 29 next year.
I’d sell him for less than others on this forum. And the big risk in my mind is not that we don’t get enough for him, but rather that we get left with him.
