You respond to a Duckworth post who was responding to Changa10 post, who was responding to Lore post about Hawthorn posters under-rating Merrett and then mentioned my name.

When did I underrate Merrett?

If you say you want to be a better poster maybe you should take more accountability about who you troll or post about. You literally just pegged in my username to "get a win" over me (with no quotes..again) just because I've disagreed with many of your posts before.

Hawks supporters being obsessed with having Zach and what he could do for the "window" has nothing to do with us. Even Mitchell acknowedged in the presser post the embarrassing prelim that the midfield was no where near it upon the mention of Merrett. If a club wants a plug-in elite needle moving mid and skip spending 6+ years trying to strike it in the draft, then that's where the price is.

I think you're under rating the list.

We're not Collingwood, relying on Sidey and Pendles.
The bulk of our list is about to peak age/ games wise.
Geelong had enough respect for it to go with 3 hard tags. One of which was a 21 year old who's never played wing before. Will Day in the stands.

We miss on a 30 year old, so be it.
We either swing hard late for Humphrey, or invest in an Ollie Greeves at pick 8. Not bothered either way.

It's about now. Hawks supporters know this. On a regular day Merrett could go for 2 firsts but everybody knows in order to pull a player from a contract and basically short-cut your way to a 7 Eleven top 4/flag, you have to pay a bit more. That's not on us, that's on the Hawks.

There is a reason a Ferrari costs more than a Huyandai. The attention you get driving a Ferrari in one day eclipses what you'd get driving a Huyandai for 5 years. If you want the now, you pay for the now.

I'm sure you were just laughing because it was my post, without even reading it. I won't lose any sleep. You will see that I have had good discussions with other Hawthorn supporters where they refrain from pushing the Essendon smear campaign agenda.

I believe some of your posting is intended to attract laughs and you are proud of the disruptions they cause.

It’s a laughable take.

Chris Scott put a hard tag on Nick Watson (20), Josh Weddle (21) and Newcombe (24) in a knock out Preliminary Final. The Hawks best player (Will Day) is also 24 and they have top 7 picks in Ward and McKenzie that are 21 and 22.

As a big MCG club with the new Dingley facilities they have already been tied too and successfully attracted trades (Meek, Barass, Chol, Ginnivan) and free agents (Battle, Amon) to enhance their list. There is no reason why they couldn’t replace Sicily, Impey and Gunston in the years to come — or just bank on the 26 year old power forward on their list coming on. If the Lions are prepared to pay $900k a season for Oscar Allen, how much is Mitch Lewis worth?

I’ll take that bet. Merrett gets a hell of a lot closer to 150 games than he does to 60 before his career ends. No reason he is any different from a Pendlebury.

Surely if Hawthorn miss with Humphrey this year they could just package a deal for Merrett this year and then target him next year with a new round of picks? It’s a no lose situation for Hawthorn so long as it doesn’t cost them three firsts.

Yeah, I think both supporter groups have settled on an approximate value. Extremists aside.

I wonder if you offer just pick #9, how would it play out? Essendon and Hawthorn could both walk away, saving face. It would be a slap in the face for Merrett.

I miss read the original post, but no it’ll be on hawthorn. Essendon will trade Merrett provided the package is to their liking. If it doesn’t happen Merrett and manager will not put him in the same situation next year with hawthorn.

This! people just seem so keen to do deals. The ability to be able to plan for a departure like Merrett needs time and 3 weeks out from trade period doesn’t give them that time. There is talk of speeding up a rebuild and the like but i would go as far as to say every planning scenario Essendon had would have included Merrett. So I have no issues with Essendon sitting this one out and revisiting in 12 months or 2 years time. When the proper planning and due diligence has been done. The club would be assessing the risk v reward in this scenario and sometimes the deals you don’t make are the most beneficial.

Merrett wants out for whatever reason and Hawthorn would be happy to have him. But Hawthorn will not sell the farm to do it. And Essendon will not give him away for peanuts.

If it falls through it is for no other reason than Hawthorn and Essendon could not agree on a valuation.

And both sides will move on and deal with the hand they are dealt.
