2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Imagine this hypothetical world

Suns go and get Jamarra who is absolutely excessive to needs.

Walter then asks for a trade because he see’s potential limited opportunities

Jamarra flames out

Ben King moves in FA next off season

Suns are left with just Ethan Reid
There’s been abit of talk about Walter not being happy with Jamarra coming in, also they’re lucky they’ve got him coming in on a reduced contract cause I’ve got no doubt he’ll go absolutely bonkers up there

Assuming we’re done.

Gone very quiet.

It always goes quiet at the weekends

It’s a very strangle acquisition when you consider they have King, Walter & Reid already. Given Jamara’s ability and experience he will likely jump Walter.

I think Flanders and Nas have that covered, but will agree to disagree on the grunt work.

We’ll be going up against Rowell, Dunkley, Atkins’s Tom Green & Brayshaw types if we want and those listed earlier aren’t at the level to curb their impact. I think Steele can if we retain him..
I’m pretty happy with Ned, but people are totally over selling his kicking ability. He’s a ball getter and safe kick. Good on the deck and hard. Plenty to like, but he’s not an uplift on class.

On the grunt work, I’m hopeful that once our younger guys develop physically that we will be ok in that space. Box, Garcia, Windy - all maniacs, Pou isn’t a beast but he’s going to be a very good frame in time. I think that’s time.

Geelong are wasting our time, its better to keep Marshall if the best we'll get for him are a couple of blah picks. We can do that deal next year.

Im not so crazy about Marshall and Steele being cultural leaders, i dont think either is great at digging a team out of the trenches, but when they are up and about they are magnetic.

They both have roles to play in the team that make them handy to keep on and better than a pick in this draft anyway. It probably means Arie and Byrnes will have to find new clubs.
TBH, I’m intrigued to see how the two would go and how that might change the forward dynamic, but you’re not getting anywhere NEAR that next year if it doesn’t work. So they split time, Ro probably more forward than TDK, averages 10 touches a game, he’s beyond 30 and doesn’t get to show off his marking around the ground as much. That’s less than a Steele proposal now. Pick 30, maybe, at best? Still good coin, pick 40? Doesn’t mean you trade him because of that. But it’s a consideration.

All hypothetically ofc, but on principle I love it.

Because if we really want to sure the side up another gun key forward in the right age bracket is what we need.

The argument for keeping Marshall is for forward presence, but he’s not as important otherwise.
Must admit, I’ve never considered him as a possibility, but he fits with King and Sharman perfectly. The cost being the issue.

With no inside info I’d just about guarantee Marshall will end up at Geelong. This is just the posturing and negotiating “oh we want to keep him”. They need a ruck and unless they find another decent one they’re priced to play here.
I'd be telling them if they don't want to pay up, they should be talking to Soldo or Mason Cox.

If they want a decent one, they can pay a decent price.

This contradictory narrative of "Geelong finally land top quality ruckman" and "Saints can't expect much for a 30 y.o" is a joke.

And if we're serious about playing finals we can't be giving the cats what they need for the f*** of it. We might end up needing to beat them at least once to get in.

A big KPF would complete the set for the recruits.
Imagine getting a tall defender, def/mid, ruck, small forward, key forward - all in one trade period. Would be huge!

Re Walter, I saw he was linked with Carlton last month when Curnow was discussed - surely not. I live for this shit in trade week please let it be true!

Hope we stick to our guns for a F1.
No point in helping the opposition.
And considering what Ross had to say about letting a contracted player go, would be very disappointing if we let him go for anything less.

But it looks dumb and he’s an arrogant American :(
Smart guy who’s picked up a game from scratch and turned it into a career and premiership.

Make no mistake collingwood brought him back into the team and dropped McStay because he plays his role well and helps the team. His skills in the the ruck are now very good, he wins his fare share and more importantly wins to advantage. His work on the ground in the forward line is amazing for a man that size, the number of times he gets hand into a pack to knock a ball out or lock it in is impressive.

His career is on its last legs I think he’ll get another year at collingwood and that will be it. I really admire what he’s done, remember he was at college to get an education. He wasn’t on a sporting scholarship and played one game of basketball as a walk on. He’d nether even seen Aussie rules.

Imo it’s one of the great afl stories.

For sure Marshall is turning 30 but the guy has been very durable , hasn't missed to many games and will even battle through injuries on the field and looking at most rucks running 30 is really when they are just hitting there peak , just look at Gawn 33, Grundy 31 , Witts 33 , Cameron 30 --- Marshall imo is worth a high first round pick and even then I really feel losing him will make us weaker - everyone been saying we need a forward / ruck and now we have a top line contested marker in a position to fill that role people are saying can we have 2 rucks in the team. joke.
What happens if TDK gets a long term injury and Marshalls gone.

We have the ability to go far with our current squad and Marshall to me is a must keep.

Who TF cares what it looks like? Are we teenagers here? And heaven forbid we have some arrogance in our team, won't someone please think of the insecurity of the more insular Saints supporters?

Cox is good with media, gets our story into the US, and is pretty handy in big games.

It won't happen but I'd be fine with it and I don’t give two shits about the goggles or the fact that he's Americano personally, I'm pretty sure most Saints fans will see past all that if he plays well for us.

Of course if he plays like garbage, the specky seppo can Foxtrot Oscar asap

What did I tell you guys? He hasn't even started playing yet, and JUH's already shaking some fruit from the Suns tree
