Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

I don't want a guy who played VFL on a 4 year contract presumably on reasonable coin on our list. Giving a B grader a 5 year contract is crazy work from the Swans.

Florent did manage 16 games this year and has almost 200 AFL games under his belt but given he is steak knives what does it really matter if he is just a depth player who can help develop our young blokes in the VFL

I read your post. I don't agree. I think keeping Charlie is an awful result for Carlton if that's what ends up happening.

Charlie spends every moment he is not obliged to be in Melbourne down in the Torquay area.

Family, surfing, mates are very very very important to him.

Sydney would mean he seems much less of his family than he does now.

I get the sense his preference for Geelong was followed by daylight, and then Sydney/GCS.

Is there a scenario where (assuming Geelong don't come up with a satisfactory offer for Carlton), once he realises his only non-Carlton option is in Sydney ,far away from family, that he gets cold feet on the whole thing and ends up staying at Carlton?

Absolutely, I’m sure they’ve already got some sort of internal deadline mapped out.

The cynic in me thinks the deals are probably already done, and the AFL’s just dragging it out for a bit of last-minute suspense/entertainment.

I would have expected some rumours re what the deal could possibly look like but nothing at all seems to be leaking other than Sydney players arent keen to leave.

I read your post. I don't agree. I think keeping Charlie is an awful result for Carlton if that's what ends up happening.

Wouldn’t say it’s an awful result but this is the one year where his value will be at its highest, given age and injury history.

He’ll almost certainly be worth less in 12 months time, unless he plays a blinder of a season, in which case, he keeps his value.

Either way, I don’t think we can lose out of this, but would also prefer him to go tbh

How much did Hayward sign on for at Sydney? Adelaide offered $850k per year. How much did we offer? Whatever it was we need to pay that for the next 4 seasons.

Probably cost us more than the Curnow contract...

I think Syd matched (or neared) whatever we were offering anyway. So I don't think we'd baulk at paying him his current salary.

Although....we chased him as a FA. Whereas, now we'd be also be trading for him. So not quite as appealing...
