Should play as our 3rd forward and Croft moved to the backline imo.
Can’t play all of Croft, Naughton and Darcy forward. They’ll get in each others way and get fewer moments in the action. They’re too talented to play selfless zoning, decoy and space-making which is what a 3rd tall should do. No coincidence that when Croft got into the team, Naughton regressed to his early season form as Croft took his space.
We don't need a 3rd tall forward in the seniors

We played our best footy with Naughton and Darcy forward and Lobb playing backup ruck

Then went away from that when it mattered most for some reason

We also aggressively tightened up our defence v gws and then dropped that as well, for some reason

Makes me sick losing more talent for peanuts, he’ll turn it around I think.
I am Highly doubtful he will,

He has shown no signs of taking any accountability and the issues he has off field are amplified on the coast (Bikies/Partying)

He just doesn't want to be a footballer

dogs give 33 37 Buku pick JUH
Suns give 18 52(for Darcy) Buderick

if Buku pick is around the 40 mark gives suns an extra 250 odd points

Then not happening but could try.
Jeremy Cameron deal went for Jeremy Cameron and 2 2nd rounders for 3 firsts.

we could offer 14 18 2026 1st 2027 1st. 4 1st rounders
We get Butters 49 2026 2nd 2027 2nd.

4 first rounders for Butter 2 2nds and 1 3rd

in effect we would of turned 2025 1st and 2nd plus JUH plus 2026 1st and 2027 1st into: Buderick Darcy Butters 49 2026 2nd (Port) 2027 2nd (Port)

massive hypothtical but doesn't seem to bad for anyone

Irrelevant, but I'm also hugely proud our club didn't steal from the poor with pokie machines.
We did, before divesting at the end of 2019. We were one of the earlier Victorian clubs to do it alongside North (2008) and Collingwood (2018). A number of clubs including Richmond, Carlton, Essendon and St Kilda still have them.

I don’t mind people disliking the idea but the hyperbole about it not working I find bewildering…..

Yeah and Billings was a better prospect at 17 than Bontempelli.
Quoting that is the most meaningless waste of bandwidth I've seen.

Naughton would be a terrible AFL defender. At best he'd be an interceptor with iffy disposal. He doesn't win one on one's as a forward. How do you think he'd go when the ball isn't kicked to his advantage?

It's cute that people still think he'd be some sort of saviour in defence but reality does not bear that out.

I think Naughton would be a gun at either end of the ground... but he's such a good forward in the air and on the ground it would be crazy to shift him back at this stage.

We could find a 'competant' KPD who can help us. Otherwise, wait 2 years and Buss/JoD should be decent enough anyway.

Think that is more to the point,

Naughton was 4 goals off Curnows first colemans goal tally after a poor start to the year (Curnow is getting traded for 2 firsts a player worth a first and a player worth a 2nd) trading for a forward of Naughton's ability would be similar

Tylar Young is just a solid stopped (which is they type we need) and went for a pick in the late 30s

We can fill the role cheaply if needed moving a valuable forward asset to do so now doesn't make much sense

Yeah the Saints ran out of money. Flanders contract the worst of the bunch, has played 6 games as an inside mid his entire career in 2024 and is their savior.
They probably budgeted for Marshall & Steele to leave as well but realised after landing Silvagni & the development of Tauru that it made no sense to bring in another 2nd/3rd defender type.

Aleer is just collateral in this situation.

I love seeing their fans brining up his stats for last year and saying it was when he was a "full time mid"

Had him in SC and loved having him get cheapies in the backline scored very well

As soon as he went on ball scoring dried up as he isn't a mid and has only attended 50%+ CBAs 12 times in his entire career Matty Kennedy did that for us 16 times this year alone as our 4th banana

I can see a universe where he's a gun intercept defender but none where he is a gun defender.
He would be more Alex Keath than Stephen May.

Back to GWS for Aleer

nothing wrong with picking up Aleer - much more athletic and faster than any of our current backs and no more klutzy. Admittedly, he doesn't possess the one on one strength or positioning skills of the elite defenders but neither does Lobb, JOD or Gardener. Then again, he has only played 25 AFL games, so it's not inconceivable he could dramatically improve those defensive skills.
When you consider that Lobb is getting on in age, and that all we possess in the way of cover injuries to the key backs is Gardener - the opportunity to pick up Aleer - relatively cheaply - then unless we are sure of picking up someone better - I would be doing my due diligence and making a serious play for him.
