I think its still all on track for a mega buster last minute trade. Did anyone really expect things to be any different at this point? Trade week is like WWE

Mark Mackenzie is going to cash in the money in the bank suitcase at AFL HQ.

But bah gawd...

That's Dodoro's music!!

Cope harder lad. This is glorious reading.
How good is the mental gymnastics to try and reduce Merrett’s value whilst simultaneously saying he’s the last piece of the puzzle to push them into true premiership contention. Which is it? Is he washed? Or is he going to be a key part of your next flag?

Did you see the guy who posted how hawthorn were in the box seat of the trade then a sentence later was hoping the AFL would come into mediate the trade for them.

The pick 8 is actually more like pick 14
Why do people keep saying this? It is not like any club can actually get their hands on the players that force picks to move out.

The exact same player will be available if it is called pick 8 or if it is called pick 14. The only difference with pick 14 is 6 players that you don't have access to anyway will have been taken through the father son or academy system.

Because it’s the 14th most talented player in the draft pool.

Well clubs can't manufacture picks out of thin air, they're allotted picks based on where they end up at the end of the season. Unless they wanna gut the players they have by shopping them around for higher picks and that would be beyond stupid as you only do that for superstar players that are no older than 25, preferably younger.

I thought this draft was shallow and so supposedly there talent difference between 1 and 30 would be negligible.

dont think thats got much to do with the point.

Chris Judd went for WAY more than hawks offered for Merret, for obvious reasons.

Making out like the hawthorn offer for Merrett is even in the same league as what Judd went for is bizzare.

Is he ahead of Gunston, Chol and Dear?

Not a dig but I’m genuinely curious, as I’m not convinced you can play all 4.

In all honesty, I'd let Lewis go if that is really going to be the player over Hustwaite.

  • 26 years old
  • Average 1.7 goals
  • Highest goal tally 37 goals (average 2.5)

He has potential to be a 60+ goal scorer, but always just seems to pick up an injury when he starts getting going. 2 ACL injuries doesn't help. First half of the prelim against Cats was best he's played in a long time.

I think the pick offer is fine, especially where Essendon are at. However I'd be asking for one of the Hawks rucks instead of HH. Some Essendon fans may believe that Bryan and Visentini are the answer but it would have to be a shit question. I'd be asking for Reeves, Ramsden or Meek.
I agree, if player offer was better I think the Bombers do the deal. Hawks being stingey by offering up a VFL player who has zero value. Come to the party with a Mackenzie or Ward and they’d do it.

Compare it to Sydneys Curnow offer. 2 firsts and 2 B22 players (can argue over their respective value but at least they’re playing AFL and not stat padding in the VFL weekly).

Who has said he is washed? I said he is 30.

He's a good/great player but should be expected to have 1-2 elite seasons left at his age (go through he ages of the AA midfields as a reference point).

2 firsts, a second and a promising young player is a good deal for any 30 year old - even a Gary Ablett Jnr, let alone Zach Merrett.

The point is Hawthorn is giving the Bombers the best picks they have at their disposal. And the AFL isn't the NBA where you can trade players against their will. No decent Hawthorn player wants to go to Essendon so that deal is the best they can muster unless, like I said previously, Hawthorn wanna be stupid and start to shop their players for better picks to satisfy the Bombers.

I, and I guess Hawthorn, put weight on the longevity of player's career when assessing trade value. Hawthorn believe they're in contention right now and willing to sacrifice 2 young recruits who could potentially play for the next 10 years in exchange for a player that can come in and provide them with 2 to 3 years of elite footy.

The bombers are rebuilding - again - and the clock is ticking. They have two years, no picks, and 2/5th's of SFA to sell to Tasmania.

Good luck bombers.

It's better than the deal that landed the Lyons Lachie Neale, who was 5 years younger.
