Any list that is saying James Worpel had a better year than Josh Battle should be irrelevant. These are Hawthorn's best 26 players this year in order from 1-26 according to Champion data. That's Champion Datas player rating in bold (Bont is number one in the comp at about 18 points if anyone is curious)
Ginnivan was their 10th best player, so everyone under him down to 22 should be in the discussion. I'm not an idiot. I know they're not giving up Newcombe etc, nor should they.
Most of the players under Ginnivan are too old (27 plus). That's why Mackenzies name keeps coming up. He is ranked Hawthorn's 22nd best player this year, but is 21 years old, and is the only player outside Hawthorn's top-10 that Essendon would want, given that he is a midfielder with an upside.
Mackenzie simply has to be in the conversation. If not him, who? Mackenzie and two MID-RANGE first round picks probably gets it done, given Merrett will probably play 100 games for Hawthorn. Merrett is the most durable player i've ever see at Essendon.

Cool and who gives a ****? Does it make a difference in the end? No!Oscar Allen meeting with Mitchell - Leaked
Harley Reid meeting with Mitchell - Leaked
Zach Merrett meeting with Mitchell - Leaked
I'm seeing a trend here...

How many coaches openly talk to opposition captains during the season?Only if you are incredibly immature like the majority of the AFL landscape.
I genuinely could not scare less if Sicily would have met with oppo coaches mid week when he was a free agent, anyone with a brain knows they will be looking at offers and they should be.

Mackenzie is worth a first round pick (for us) without a doubt. At 30 years of age we simply don't view Merrett as worth 3 first round picks, i am not even totally opposed to him being traded at the right price unlike a lot of Hawk fans. But he is not a throw in, he is a central piece of a trade. These are Hawthorn's best 26 players this year in order from 1-26 according to Champion data. Sam didn't announce it to the press but either way again, who cares. How many coaches openly talk to opposition captains during the season?
Everyone knows they do it, they don't announce it to the press beforehand though, or happily brag about talking to other club's players.
Well, except for McRae.
Clearly Essendon do lmao. Hence why they are refusing to pick up the phone to Hawthorn with regards to Merrett.Cool and who gives a ****? Does it make a difference in the end? No!
It doesn't matter. If you're trying to pry a captain from a club you need to satisfy that club in a trade.
Hawthorn should've considered this before making a play. If they didn't, they've cocked this up massively.
No they aren’t picking up the phone because they are run by a bunch of monkeys, the did this same shit with Joe Daniher when he wanted to go to Sydney and how did that work out for them? That’s right shit house.Clearly Essendon do lmao. Hence why they are refusing to pick up the phone to Hawthorn with regards to Merrett.
Thats the whole point, Mitchell leaking these meetings with high profile players with no regard for the club they reside at has backfired massively.
This is a classic!! Oh, to live a life without the curse of self-awareness.You might be the most clueless person on bigfooty.
Essendon had plenty of negotiations with Sydney regarding Joe. I remember it like it was yesterday because Sydney refused to trade Papley to Carlton unless Daniher was coming back the other way.No they aren’t picking up the phone because they are run by a bunch of monkeys, the did this same shit with Joe Daniher when he wanted to go to Sydney and how did that work out for them? Again Mitchell didn’t leak it m, it was Merrett and his team
You enjoying supporting a mediocre club? Enjoy watching your side get smashed week in week out? Get used to it.This is a classic!! Oh, to live a life without the curse of self-awareness.

I think the next person who wants to try Lyndall's moussaka might think twice.Cool and who gives a ****? Does it make a difference in the end? No!
And by not dealing Essendon will have totally screwed up the next 5 years of that football club.Essendon had plenty of negotiations with Sydney regarding Joe. I remember it like it was yesterday because Sydney refused to trade Papley to Carlton unless Daniher was coming back the other way.
This is a completely different situation, Hawthorn have completely ballsed it up and royally pissed off Essendon which has seemingly destroyed any chance of a deal getting done.
So, does anyone want to play with Michael Voss?Oscar Allen meeting with Mitchell - Leaked
Harley Reid meeting with Mitchell - Leaked
Zach Merrett meeting with Mitchell - Leaked

Someone leaked it to the press because he was on radio in Melbourne being quizzed about it before he even flew to Perth to meet Allen.Sam didn't announce it to the press but either way again, who cares.
If you know it happens you shouldn't care if you see it happening, it is so childish and immature it is insane.
Strong offer?Hawthorn came to the table with a strong offer, but the Essendon board are too busy tripping over their own egos to answer the phone. Unprofessional doesn’t even begin to cover it. No wonder Zac Merrett wants out - who wouldn’t want to escape that rabble?
Remind me how many players have arrived at Hawthorn this off season? So, does anyone want to play with Michael Voss?
I think you are dealing with bigger problems than me watching a football game. But please keep bashing that keyboard champion. You enjoying supporting a mediocre club? Enjoy watching your side get smashed week in week out? Get used to it.
And by not dealing Essendon will have totally screwed up the next 5 years of that football club.
To be honest the easier assumption would be that he went to sleep with someone elses wifeSomeone leaked it to the press because he was on radio in Melbourne being quizzed about it before he even flew to Perth to meet Allen.
I don't imagine it was McDougall or WCE doing that.
Probably, but they still have 0 interest in dealing with Hawthorn... Which is the entire point. Mitchell f***ed up just like Fly with the JSOS coffee date crap. And by not dealing Essendon will have totally screwed up the next 5 years of that football club.
I am happy to let it not get done if the asking price is Mackenzie and two firsts, it is simply too much for a 30 year old no matter how durable he has been to date.Yes, but remember there is a trade-off when two of those first round picks are just that - picks (and the other is a player)
The player needs to be involved because there is a risk with only getting picks, due to the uncertain nature of picks. That "unknown" variable that only exists when trading for picks has to be partly alleviated with a player in the mix.
If it was two players who were of the equivalent value of, say picks 12 and 13, then that would be fine. No third player needs to be involved. I would agree with you. But two picks creates an unknown and only a player makes up that difference to counter the unknown.
I can't see it getting done without Mackenzie (unless a third club gets invloved). Just look at that list of Hawthorn's players in order - there is no one else. And Mackenzie probably doesn't want to get traded anyway.
Sure but if Hawks want to prize a contracted club captain, who is also that club's best player, they need to make a serious offer and that means giving up something good.Mackenzie is worth a first round pick (for us) without a doubt. At 30 years of age we simply don't view Merrett as worth 3 first round picks, i am not even totally opposed to him being traded at the right price unlike a lot of Hawk fans.
