Cbf reading, are people doing the thing where they say pick 9 is pick 14 when really they’re still getting the 9th best player they’d be picking from anyway?
Not now, nor at any time in the past, nor at any point in the future will bf posters understand that draft pick numbers do not carry any meaning that does not correspond to a certain pool of available players.

Good game of poker going on now between the 2 clubs.. Hawthorn aren't offering up a player they believe will go on to play 200 games + 2 x 1sts (2 goes at finding said player) for a great player with 3-4 good to great seasons left in him.. It would be irresponsible list management.

So if Essendon don't want to roll the dice on those picks it is what it is.. but they need to live with Merrett, who said he wants out now & probably does this same circus routine again in 12mths time..

Acutally the last half dozen pages is an the who's who of Hawthorn trolld on Bigfooty... I hope they're getting paid by post.

It's peak BigFooty poultry yard... the exact moment the whole coop realises the gate’s open and everyone comes out flapping.

Every few posts someone yells “Lewis!” like it’s a magic word that changes the trade maths. The Judd comparison gets resurrected for the 30th time.

The cognitive dissonance here is that if any other club made the same offer, it’d be called “a monster bid”

But because it’s Hawthorn, the badge itself triggers years of stored resentment — flags, arrogance, 80s trauma, 2013–15 PTSD. So “neutral” supporters aren’t neutral... they’re exorcising their own Hawks fatigue.

Pick 9 + F1 + F2 + Hustwaite (F2/F3)

That’s a total draft-value index haul that eclipses Dunkley, Dangerfield Neale, Cameron, Curnow and nearly equals Judd for a much older player.

There is no precedent of a 30-year-old player being traded for that much. None. Not even close.

If this were, say, Sydney chasing him, the media would spin it as “bold list management to fast-track contention.”

Why “neutrals” are siding with Essendon

They’re not neutrals.
They’re anti-Hawks sentimentalists... supporters who still remember years of being flogged by brown and gold. They see this as payback theatre.

So every take is emotionally inverted... Essendon are being strong actually means:

“Hawthorn aren’t allowed to win another trade.”

The cognitive dissonance trap of Essendon posters quietly admitting they take that offer (“get the sook out”) but the tribal reflex kicks back in seconds later..

“nah it’s unders… but overs… but junk.”

They’re not processing numbers.

No club (none) would have offered a better deal.

Not Carlton, not Sydney, not Geelong. They’d all balk at the two first round picks alone.

Hawthorn’s was literally the ceiling of what’s reasonable for a contracted 30-year-old.

So you’re right... it’s not that neutrals are siding with Essendon... it’s that everyone loves to see Hawthorn told
“no” for once, even when logic says the Hawks played it well.

Essendon full of Balls but when do u think they will take the captaincy off him, a week after he is at Hawthorn ? If he is not he will have a Jamarra year, full of mental health. That's how well they are going. Send Merrett out and do a Richmond, lots of kids.

If you are going to go after a contracted captain at least have the picks to do it.

1st rounder is such a throw away line because pick 2 and pick 18 are VERY different.

All lower clubs should be telling these top clubs to shove it or pay extreme overs.

It’s exhausting reading everyone say x pick will be x pick because of bids..

Pick 9 is Pick 9 and will be Pick 9.

Academy players that aren’t accessible to you are NOT relevant to that pick. It is still the 9th live pick in the draft.

For compensation picks fair enough because they’re actual picks being put ahead but in terms of academy players, they aren’t denting your live pick.

You do realize two things can be correct right.

Yes, it is still the ninth player in the open draft. But it is going to be the 13th rated player.

So when comparing it to other drafts this is the equivalent to the 13th pick.

But it won't be pick 9 on the night will it. It won't read.

Pick 9 - Hawthorn select blah blah blah.

Regardless of whatever happens tonight, I just hope and wanna see things work out for Hawthorn. Their fans deserve to see something good happen for them.

Sounds like only way this gets done is if hawthorn manage to convince (strongarm) one of its more in demand players to move.

It's clear Henry H has little trade value
Morris says that if it was McKenzie instead of hh it would have gotten done. Morris has been hawks mouthpiece so maybe they are going to speak to McKenzie.

No one in Hawks best 23 has any desire to play for Bombers. Will need to be more value in pick combos. Or he stays.
