Yeah so much worseI am getting so sick of people looking at points and slides of third round picks and arguing about the trade. It's such a minute, "forest for the trees" look at the trade.
At the start of trade period, we were looking at pick 12, pick 33 and Whan. We now have pick 19, McVee and Whan. That is honestly where it starts and ends for us

my god this is unreal for Melbourne
That is probably the "our side" to it. Our picks after 30 look like they would have been a top 25 pick by themselves so we've moved down to 20 for no reasonYeah so much worse
Should have been 12 mcvee and whan
Or 13 mcvee and whan if we take a 1 spot slide
I dont agree with throwing two picks in the 40s into the ether to make your point
It literally just happened lolI have no idea why people are thinking that we had any way of keeping 12 and getting McVee (or even sliding one pick back). Nobody is offering an early 20s pick for a one pick slide in any of these trades
except they gave up two picks, 42 and 43 to make it happen, whereas we only gave up one pick, pick 50, and slid pick 44 back two places so we could match Whan bids. Keeping the extra pick was key for us in our draft strategy re: nga.It literally just happened lol
Do picks have any value to GC
Makes the Merrett trade look like nothing
I'd give up 44 in an instant to move from 19 to 12except they gave up two picks, 42 and 43 to make it happen, whereas we only gave up one pick, pick 50, and slid pick 44 back two places so we could match Whan bids. Keeping the extra pick was key for us in our draft strategy re: nga.
I dont think that extra pick is going to matter as I doubt Whan goes top 40 personallyexcept they gave up two picks, 42 and 43 to make it happen, whereas we only gave up one pick, pick 50, and slid pick 44 back two places so we could match Whan bids. Keeping the extra pick was key for us in our draft strategy re: nga.
You mean this one?It literally just happened lol
you're missing the other key part of sliding down from 12 to 19, which was moving our pick 33 up to 23. This has been debated ad nauseum. The smoke will only clear once we see the draft results. It's predominantly hypothetical speculation until then. If you're talking points differential of the two trades, the fact is Hawthorn actually lost 208 points in the trade, whereas Freo only lost 177.I'd give up 44 in an instant to move from 19 to 12
You mean this one?
It's 9, 31, 42 and 43 for 10 and 22
To be fair, the real way to look at the trade is Blues are now covered for a Dean bid (they'll use 9 for it or draft him there) and the other kid they have with 31,42 and 43. It is not the same as ours as Hawks effectively have bought pick 22, not pick 9 (it will be eaten by Dean making 10 the same pick anyway).
But I have to be fair and acknowledge another team has moved down for less points

In fact, Hawthorn lost 15% more draft points than we did in their slide down picks trade...To be fair, the real way to look at the trade is Blues are now covered for a Dean bid (they'll use 9 for it or draft him there) and the other kid they have with 31,42 and 43. Yeah blues were happy to move down 22 for pointsTo be fair, the real way to look at the trade is Blues are now covered for a Dean bid (they'll use 9 for it or draft him there) and the other kid they have with 31,42 and 43.
