Delisted Callum Ah Chee - Joins Adelaide via the PSD

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

So now he is suitable p155ed at Brisbane as is his manager. he now becomes a delisted free agent and will nominate for the PSD. He can put whatever contract he likes on his head and term length. So if he thinks another club might try and take him, he puts a 1 year big money deal on his head..if they take him, as he is a delisted free agent at the end of this year, he is one for life and in a years time walks for nothing to the club of his choice. So at worst, Adelaide can be sure of having him in a maximum 1 year's time if a club is silly enough to get in his way this time in the PSD

Omg for the love of gawd.. its 2 year deals mate

Ok sure, I acknowledge the somewhat semantic point you've made...in that sense you are correct

Feel free to acknowledge the substance of the point I made ;)
I mean I feel like you tried to correct or tweak my point while really just confirming what I said.

I get why you faith in him no matter what, who wouldnt. I agree with your point as well because it agrees with mine haha.

Just think it's kinda shitty treatment of Ah Chee, clearly Williams wasnt too happy.

Ben Williams doesn't control what every club does in PSD lol

Because anybody can put a value on a player, it becomes a bad look when that value is obviously unreasonable and they refuse to budge.
You know, unless they want to keep the player at that price.
AhChee would have a contract on the table that reflects a first round pick.
Nothing Brisbane have done here is a “bad look”.
Unlike the teams that walk players to the PSD.

First round picks outside the top 10 don’t hold the traditional value of a “first rounder” anymore. When we’re seeing the first round go 22/23+ picks, those late first round picks are now in line with what used to be considered a second rounder.

Therefor, clubs now need to pony up more at the table.

No point comparing pick 16 to what first rounders were traded for 10 years ago.

In real terms, it’s the equivalent of what was an early second rounder.

Which is fair value for Ah Chee. Ie, pick 16 (pushed back to 20+) is reasonable.

Lol, where are the delusional Lions supporters who said he would be happy to stay on significantly less money....

Been saying he will leave one way on another.

If he's been getting underpaid, doesn't that suggest he's worth something based on his performances? Hence asking for an early 2nd rd pick is reasonable?

Or does your logic only apply to his monetary contract and not his trade value? Adelaide logic right...?
What? I meant be accommodating to him so he can get the pay he wants at a club he wants to play for, or pay him what he wants now since you own him from the back payments with underpaying him. That's why he was gettable in the first place as Davis knew this.

Guaranteed that many clubs will be into AhChee’s ear, telling him that they’ll consider picking him up at the PSD.

That will scare him into taking Brisbanes offer, and put more pressure on their salary cap. Win for the league.

Nah, if Ah Chee was scared of PSD, we're a lot more open to trading a higher pick. Something's made us confident that this is in play and in a big way (and on cue, the agent has quashed any ideas about resigning).

Equally, it seems like there are mechanisms in place to stop other clubs from doing just that. Seeing there are rules that allow Ah Chee to appeal - and be released from whatever contract - with any club that does draft him which override rule 7.8 in Rule 22 (and this one sounds tailored to this kind of scenario, seeing the whole harsh/unconsciousable wording which not being able to choose your employer may fall under; hard to imagine what else this rule is for). Rule 22 also has an odd caveat about 'stated terms' which 7.8 didn't have, and a weird section on compensation, which sounds like the two clubs can trade for the player post draft selection should the appeal work? So it does at least seem somewhat relevant.

That said, it's kind of weird that considering we've had two trades involving three first round picks that this might be the single most important trade (or lack there of) to happen this decade. Seeing just how uncharted the waters are around a trade falling through for an uncontracted player.

An F2 and F3 for an uncontracted 28 year old is a pretty reasonable offer

Weird by Brisbane
But it matters what you have and what you need. Both teams need to see value.
Clearly Brisbane didn’t value what was offered.
That’s how trades work.

Good evening Mr Snuff. An eventful trade period indeed.

Adelaide has had all year to have the right capital to trade for Cal whose value based on other deals is around the 20-25 mark. They came to the trade period with only a f2 to offer, something which would end up around pick 40.

Based on previous trades the lions have done with other clubs, one proposal would have been a pick slide which would have valued cal around pick 25. The Crom didn’t want to do that.

I’m happy for the club to take a position on this one and not budge if the Croms trade tactics are to just offer a pick that has little value to us and say all we got take it or leave it. They had all year.
Like I said, I get why you guys dont give two shits and will back The Dom to the hilt. Back to back flags gives unlimited faith for a few years. Clearly Ah Chee and Williams arent too thrilled though, no point claiming Adelaide should have been better when it's clear which side the player is on.

Edit: Just letting you know I edited a post a bit after you liked it SC_Power

He’s not worth pick 16. That’s more than we got for a contracted Charlie Cameron.

You’d have got something back the other way. Don’t blame Brisbane for not accepting breadcrumbs

1. Ben Williams has already said he remains zero chance of staying at Brisbane and will end up at Adelaide. The latter might not eventuate but the former will - he’s not staying at Brisbane.
2. We are talking about a 28 year old role player that has never finished top 10 in the bnf. What have you heard that makes you think his contract demands a first round pick.

So if (for example) Port Adelaide say that they’ll pay up for AhChee in the PSD, does AhChee nominate?

Adelaide have the right/obligation to do what is best for their team, Dom has an obligation to do the same for us.

Given the offer was a pick around 37 next year plus a pick around 55 I think there was little to gain from accepting it and perhaps a little benefit to other trade negotiations in future given we have a lot of players we want to retain.

Crows ask for player. Lions were clear to AhChee where they valued him, and told the Crows the same story, and weren’t bluffing obviously. Crows don’t pay what the club wants.
How is that Brisbanes “bad look”?

They received a fair offer but Brisbane refused to trade in good faith

Why wouldn’t Lions do the deal, if they didn’t want to keep him?

Port Adelaide did this many many years ago with Nick Stevens. We wanted to keep him. He wanted Collingwood. We said no to Collingwood trade. Was walked to the PSD. Carlton stumped up the cash and Stevens rotted away at Princes Park.
We won the flag the following year.

Doesn’t seem like the language of someone that thought Adelaide lowballed Brisbane and have an egg on their face.

This is great news. If the guy is managing more lions players he will know to ensure a satisfactory deal can be made in the future. He will also be very sceptical of any of his players moving to adelaide in the future.

Let’s expand those okay…

That’s pick 35-40 ish plus pick 55 next year

Honestly would Brisbane even use one of those picks next year?

It doesn’t look that good if you expand it…all Brisbane has lost is some random pick in the 30’s. Meh they’ll live just got Allen and Draper for cash

Offering someone a contract is one thing... actually getting a trade done is 50% of the puzzle. Adelaide failed Ah Chee on that front.

Crom didn’t provide an offer of sensible value.

People are getting to held up on the first or f1 narrative. That would have been our extreme starter position. We were after a slide valuing him at 25.

It doesn’t make sense to accept an offer which contained no value for us.
