Recommitted Zach Merrett [UFA 2027] - Wanted a trade to Hawthorn, but it didn't get done

Brisbane the winners of free agency/trades. Their rivals for the flag in Hawthorn, Geelong and Adelaide did not improve and added nothing (Gold Coast being the exception).

The dick swinging clubs had an absolute mare today.

The designated feeder clubs stood their ground.

I'm actually proud of what the Bombers did. (Vomit in mouth as I type.)

Sometimes you just gotta stand for something and damn the consequences.
Are clubs taking control back of the system that is broken?

Marshall, Merrett, Ah Chee, Khamis dient go through. Some big plays in there

Have you ever thought of trading draft picks. Just a quick thought

Almost like teams don't want to trade back. GC the only team worth trading up to given their academy kids, gave away the only picks that were attractive. Hey Brisbane want to give us pick 21 for picks 26 and 27 which have players around the same level so we just take one less. Brilliant idea.

“The big positive”

Day barely played, Weddle missed significant time, Lewis, Dear, Mackenzie, Butler, Morrison, Maginness.

All either missed time with injury, or didn’t consistently play.

“Would be funny if they didn’t and miss the 8” absolutely zero significance behind this.
Have a look at GWS, Bulldogs, Sydney Fremantle injury lists and tell me again how unlucky the Hawks were.

They had a blessed run compared with most other contenders, that’s concerning.

You seem to be very ignorant outside of your own club.

Essendon didnt ask about any players from Hawthorn was his point 👍🏻

Offering 3 firsts is trying plenty, great offer. Essendon wanted 4 and a second which is just not happening so both move on.

It’s like North thinking they’d get 2 firsts for Simpkin, laughable.

was a great offer pick wise.

clearly though essendon didnt want picks.

Onus was on hawks to get it done, they didnt. They easily could have pushed a player out like you did to Burton, they simply didnt want to do it

So in summary:
  1. Hawks didn't get want they wanted;
  2. Hawks haven't improved their list, whilst other contenders significantly improved their 'in the window list';
  3. Bombers held their ground and what's left of their dignity, which is a pretty good effort when the dumpster fire just became a raging inferno.
Can't help but feel a warm inner glow over what in this case, was non-trade week!

Dewyyyyy

Hawks development so good 6/11 of their top 11 came from other clubs?

7 including Gunston 😉
So they improved players other clubs couldn’t? Are you trying to make the point?
Seriously what's the go with gaslighting Essendon's management?

Just because Merrett asked to leave doesn't compel them to agree.

As Ross Lyon has parroted for two weeks, good clubs with good programs don't let contracted players leave.
Good clubs with good programs don’t have their captain want to leave

Merrett should have asked to come to the crows because we know how to get a deal done (PSD available?). Cheers

PSD irrelevant

isnt an RFA/FA

No doubt every club has injuries. But you’re so ignorant of Hawthorn. I just don’t mention what you are because I agree with you, a lot of clubs had horror runs, poor times with injuries or annoying even.

Hawthorn did too, and that’s my point.

I’m not going to repeat what you say, it’s obvious, a mute point.

You can specifically say Day and Lewis in particular are like new recruits and then considering Dear is about to have his first full pre season, there’s no reason for Hawthorn or their fans to worry.

Meanwhile in the real world Ross Lyon traded his captain for a bag of chips

Day is just Jordan Ridley in a Hawthorn jumper
Weddle is getting to over rated stages, good player with potential but geez the output doesnt match the rating
Mitch Lewis is just an inferior Peter Wright. Good player when fit but not really a needle mover, is he

Essendon didn’t know what they wanted. Cant say you want players and not ask for any players? 😂

Essendon view was not to trade ZM at all

Hawks had to put the deal together, not us.

You didnt even bother discussing with players to than propose it to Essendon.

Lazy stuff.

Should have stayed focus on Petracca, Melbourne would have traded him for your 1st rounder and F1 but you probably would have pay his entire salary like GCS.

Injuries are relative though, hawks may have had a bad run with injuries in isolation but relative to their rivals it was pretty decent.

Day and Lewis are walking injuries, including them is wishful thinking.

facts here pal, as I said. Merrett you are buying cause you know what you are going to get. Curnow you are buying what you think he can do
Multiple Coleman medallist, and younger.

It’s not potential. That’s an AFL award for the best forward in the AFL. Multiple times.

Merrett is a bloody good player. 6 BnFs and all that. But they are still only Essendon BnFs

Anyway not to denigrate Merrett. But complete spin you’re playing off Curnow like he’s an untried kid with potential…… he’s proven. One of the top few most damaging forwards in the entire league. And a position a lot rarer and harder to fill than the midfield.

Facts.
