How many shots did the other team get after we first scored a point or kicked it out of bounds? We were 5th for inside 50s. We were second to last for afl shot efficiency.

Correct, our efficiency was terrible... not denying that... but our ability to generate shots was also lacking as I pointed out.

As for the other team getting shots after we miss, sure, I stated that in my original post... so many players ball watching and not covering the open options, we allowed coast to coast so many times.

So therefore, by definition, we were very poor defensively as well. And that was just one poor aspect of our defensive structure.

Converting shots forms part of the basics, you'll notice that despite our large i50 numbers, a lot of the kicks i50 were ill directed and a lot of them to players inside 50 in tough positions to convert from. But I'll think you'll find that Brisbane weren't great at converting shots either this year...

Reckon Jack was done a fair while out. JSOS & TDK in the STK box….

They should have let Aleer know earlier. Think that was about Marshall & Steele (late trade) still on the books and then Flanders coming on board.

They sprained they had cash to splash so it was more a case of buyers remorse and pulling their offer from overpaying for a L/T contract.
Think the Dogs forcing the Saints to pony up more $ for Wilkie might of also had a bit to do with the decision around Aleer.

Ainsworth does frequently go missing, he has his whole career. He was a fringe player at the Suns hence them allowing him to go despite signing a 4 yr deal. He does have potential for better, and I'd like to see him player inside 50 more than HFF, but he's not a big move as it is now.

Hayward can similarly go in and out of games. He actually reminds me of Charlie in that he can have a dominant 15 minutes kicking 3 goals but be barely sighted outside of that. I think he's better than fringe tbf, hes a decent inclusion.

That’s the lot of a forward.

Yep, another pay increase for CW.

Still, they could have traded for Aleer but the bang for buck and want had dried up. Wait until they see what TDK is really worth…

I think best case we could finish 6th/7th, when you consider how many guys had down years who could definitely play much better footy than 2025 in 2026.

Worst case is 13th/14th, we could gel quickly as we still have the majority of the playing group, same coach etc so there is that continuity. We need to start off well, losing to Richmond R1 pretty much killed our season then and there.

I don't see any ceiling. It just gets down to injuries.

If we get to round 1 with 10+ on the injury list yet again + Walsh, Cripps, etc. clearly playing injured the season will be another flop.

A fit and confident Jagga, Walsh, Cerra & Cripps covers a heck of a lot of problems in other parts of the ground.

Yes we lost 3 experienced players but I do not see that as season defining. What defines our season will be how well we kick the ball inside 50.

It's been our issue for years. Good kicks added:

Cottrell
Newman
Hayward
Ainsworth
Jagga
Chesser
Boyd
Etc.

The mids will hopefully give these guys enough good possession. They need to do the rest.

Ainsworth was played out of position and pigeon holed at the suns imo
You watch him take the next step with us next year. We will release the shackles on him. He’ll be an attacking weapon. Watch this space imo

Along with chesser. Got elite speed and great peg! Been in the system for four years. Ready to explode if can stay fit

You've just described every small forward in the league.

Hayward is the 30-40 goal small forward we havent had since Eddie.

Mitigates at least half the loss of Charlie.

I don't buy that. All large supporter bases like ours are the same.

It's an excuse for mediocrity and fragility.

Yeah, nah.

Richmond fans had a massive reputation of eating their own before turning things around.

Such a cop out to blame the fans.
Although given that the alternative negatively implicates us as fans, we would say that, wouldn't we?

Carlton fans and players are natural enemies! Like Collingwood and Carlton! Or Richmond and Carlton! Or Essendon and Carlton! Or Carlton fans and other Carlton fans! Damn Carlton fans! They ruined Carlton!

Could have sent him to PSD with their price on his head and got him if they didn’t want to trade for him!

Fab on the Prendercast often points out how at Collingwood games, when they get behind the crowd lift whereas with the Blues you can hear the air go out of the supporters or it gets nasty.

I know that's a reaction to 30 years of losing but is it something, as a group, we can try to work on.
Think it would help if we first developed a culture of winning and mongrel first then the fan base will follow. Collingwood fans expect to respond or come back and lift their noise based on history not hope.

We can try to move up by using one of our 1sts and a 2027 F1 maybe.
Wondering if we can swing 9 & 11 to West Coast for 2, 34, 41, 53, 58, perhaps sending them a 2027 F2 or some future swaps?

Will come down to how hard they attack the DFA windows and where their 4 academy kids are rated (probably 3 of them are rookies). We certainly don't seem to think that Dean and Ison are going to cost a whole lot.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ainsworth reach new levels playing for a big club with a huge supporter base driving his performances.

He strikes me as a guy who might thrive on a big stage.

We won't be able to pay for Harry Dean if we do that.

Sorry, just updated my post to reflect that perhaps we don't think he's going to draw a bid that high in the first round.

With the later picks, that combination is worth at least 1200 points.

We won't do that because you need the same amount of lost spots as picks you take to the draft

Yeah well I’m pretty sure if all of the blues supporters were on day release we’d be a bit more happy too!!!!

806 on the new scale.

34 - 360
41 - 220
43 - 184
53 - 28
54 - 14

With the 10% discount, the bid would have to be Pick 17.

I think it had more to do with expectation vs reality. We know that wasn't us last season and it was shocking.

They're 7500 days since winning a final yet still don't seem to understand they need to change something.

They've now got Welsh getting directly involved in trades and even interviewing draftees. Running an amateur list management team didn't work out well for us with SOS vs. Liddle.

I thought Dodo was their problem but it goes much deeper than that.

They should have taken the deal for Merrett. They're not winning anything anytime soon, and with an arsenal of first round picks they really could have set themselves up.

If we kicked straighter, we would have cut down the coast-to-coast goals and won more

You need to factor in the picks disappearing due to Uwland, Patterson, and Annable bids, which probably moves everything up 8 spots at the back, a little less for the higher picks.
