2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

I wish tony74 would feed us chooks just a little more re: his cryptic comment about the Aleer deal falling over.

It just looked like very poor process management to me and next time the club called to try and upsell me something I was planning to give them a bit of s**t about it since it left me a bit bemused at what was otherwise a great trade period.

I'm not really interested in the drama part of it (if there even is one) but more the club looks to have acted pretty unprofessionally and if there's some context to mitigate that I wouldn't mind knowing.

Would be good water cooler talk, but the Aleer stuff is in the rear view mirror now. Happy we didn't overpay for him.

Spare a thought for poor old Dalrymple, who's year long scouting of draftees now basically pans out to picking up our NGA and promoting rookies

Nah these late picks is where he will truly earn his money

We'll have to take one open pool pick and in a draft that doesn't have much depth, the strike rate is extremely low

But boy, if we could land THE one in a draft that everyone has written off, we'll just keep climbing that ladder

Reading the Dees “welcome” to Steele thread, I’m actually devastated we’ve done this to him.

What a pack of w*nkers. Sorry Steeley. 😢
Yeah they don't think much of him or us. Much worse than when we got Paddy Dow from Carlton. More like Zac Jones levels.

Hopefully they will fall in love with him. As one of them posted, he doesn't have a brand and he isn’t a problem child. They could do with someone reliable there but unfortunately the pain had only just begun for the Demons snd they'll need more than Heath, Steele and CJ. I guess those 2 FRDPs will also come in handy but Melbourne's problems are mostly about attitude and I think Jack will help there, so maybe they'll end up loving him.

But you’re dead right about the DeesBF posters, pack of total wnkrs.

Most existing time of the year is now upon us gentlemen and ladies.

Predicting new jumper numbers 🤌🏼

My first take

3. Hall (earned this big time)
9. Flanders (like Boxshall too but there will be other good numbers soon for him)
15. Silvagni (mates with Stocker?) highest left and he ain’t getting higgo’s !
21. TDK (next to Roma 19 would be nice in the locker room)
27. Ryan

Other guys gunning for an upward switch
Boxshall - 38
Garcia - 34
Caminiti - 47! Although I love his number

Any others ? Willo maybe but 22 a GREAT number my fav clearly back in 2012 when I made this account
Give Boxshall the 9

Firstly, 38 is horrific

Secondly, he is the one who I think slots into Steele's role and can carry on his legacy as that tough team-first mid. Makes too much sense IMO

Flanders had 3 at the SUNS so wouldn't be surprised if he holds that

And 15 is already taken by Dow. Gut feel is Silvagni gets 21 next to his new partner Dougal

TDK I've no clue. As a guy on 1.7m surely he needs a low number. Maybe 9 but him replacing Steele is YUCK

Also is anyone else a bit confused about SOS' silence this trade period? We wheeled out Ross on deadline day and the CEO today when SOS would have been the more appropriate St Kilda spokesman both times.
Probably to avoid the nepotism comments with the recruitment of jack

"Budarick, Smith and Sellwood will be the best defensive trio in the comp next year despite the fact that no one has heard of these guys yet."

Not sure if joking or serious. I fear the latter
🤣
The copium pipe is getting a severe workout over there.

I liked that one comment where someone said they preferred their list management strategy of having better players that they haven’t got yet than the players we did get! They’ll just get them later!

Make it make sense.

His year long scouting said "not much on offer boys, definitely don't accept 2nd round picks imitating first round picks"

Hope Hall keeps his. Love it when underdogs make it and stick with their original high number

This highlights the problem with moving on Steele to be tbh. This is still a hopeful starting midfield mix.

Flanders and Nas have still played a lot of their best football at half back and have played 0 games together. Add to that Macrae and Flanders have both had recent injury concerns. And all our back ups to this mix, namely Windhager, Garcia, Pou and Boxshall are all still speculative/injury prone themselves.

We also aren’t improving our list by moving on Steele, we got a future third for him.

The move is to reminiscent of the Membery move from last year for me.

Move on a bloke who still has good footy left in him for nothing because someone should be able to step up and take his place instead of seeing if the kid actually earns it first. Don’t rate the move at all. We’re putting aside our hearts but not even actually gaining anything for it.
Moving Membrey on ensured that we didn’t pick him to play, which meant Sharman got a clean run and it and probably out performed what Membrey would’ve given us.

The same will happen with Steele. If he stayed he would’ve got games and minutes in the middle.

Leaving gives the new gen who will take us forward time to lay their best claims and battle it out.

It was rough, and I don’t understand it, because our midfield isn’t that good..but I think Ross has a new part job driving this machine… and look what happens to steel.

Theres always a little bit of information that the media and supporters are not privy to. It may come out eventually but probably better left unsaid
Yep Lyon alluded to this with his comment to a reporter on reneging when he said “we’ll…you don’t have all the information…” I thought that was interesting…good on the club for standing firm
