We can split the pick on the night to ensure we've got enough points.

That would depend on our banked collateral and the number of picks we have to use. Not possible to answer ahead of time.

You would expect that we would have options to trade down and pick up an extra pick. Like Dogs and GWS just did

Im not sure 6 after bids is a guarantee to get ahead of a Dean bid. To risky giving up all that currency and still being 50/50. If we trade up I think we need a certain player in mind and it needs to be pick 1-4.

They need picks for 2027 for Bewick.
Not sure how much they are worth apart from matching FS or academy bids, given Tas running through it.

West Coast not bidding either of their first 2 picks on him. Surely if we make a deal with Essendon they won't bid on him.

Only leaves Richmond. Delisted Blight so must think they have enough key defenders. Club would know if they have interviewed Dean.

Dean should be available with pick 6 if we trade for it.

We will have a better idea closer to draft night as clubs firm on who is picking whom where - I expect a Dean slide, not because he is suddnely a worse player, just because there will be other players ion the draft who fit other clubs' specific needs better

Sentiment and tradition should not replace proper list management.

Don't think that it is sentiment, its more a matter of honour - and although first pick in the draft should be best talent available - our need for a Key Defender is extremely high - so I think its a matter of talent colliding with need that we take Dean if we have to at a first pick.

If we want to take three players at the draft, and that thrid player is one of the better players, there is no way we will be taking Dean at 9 if noone has bid on him at that point

We will take the other player we want, and then likely trade 11 to make sure we have enough points for Dean and Ison bids and also get a pick in the 2026 (or 2027) drafts ie F2 or F3

Sounds like your just setting the tone to melt hard if he gets bid on early and we match it.

Dean will be at Carlton regardless of where he's bid on. Nothing surer.
