Delisted Callum Ah Chee - Joins Adelaide via the PSD

Yep, very familar with the Starce situation.

At the end of the day WCE had the same option as Adelaide with Ah Chee (push Starce through the draft) but they didn't. A relatively fair trade was reached.

You guys are tying your self in knots over this to rationalise the Ah Chee outcome.

Ah Chee will be upset at both clubs, but only one club has commited to getting him to Adelaide... and it wasn't Brisbane.

Brisbane accepted the offer because they knew that realistically, it was overs what you would normally get for a player like Starcevich.

West Coast only offered that trade, because Brisbane had the leverage to potentially deny them pick 2.

Once again, please address the numerous comparable trades I have posted, that do not involve a first round pick, or perhaps provide a comparable trade that does involve a first.

I don’t believe Starcevich counts because of the highly unusual nature of that trade.

You weren't asked for a first rounder straight up. You were asked for a 7 pick slideback, which is more like 4 picks once academy picks were matched.

Brisbane were incredibly reasonable.
& a 2nd rounder on top!

Some Adelaide fans here really need to build a bridge, they are green with envy - it's pretty clear when you look at their posts here and on their club board. Yes, Brisbane has a stacked list and has stacked it even more this off season. This doesn't mean we are a charity for other bottom feeder clubs.

You guys can wrap yourselves in knots justifiying pushing a reigning 2x premiership winner through the PSD... it doesn't change the fact you did it... or the fact that he'd be in crows colours already if a fair trade was offered.

Hopefully for you guys you can one up us next year and lure Zac Bailey. No doubt he"ll be happy to be dragged through the PSD draft too:drunk:

100 ****ing per cent were envious of the Lions. The academy system, while definitely beneficial for growing the game, is one of the most enormous advantages any club has ever received from a list management perspective.

On top of that, you were kissed on the dick in having the Ashcrofts and Fletcher fall into your lap when you were already at the top of the mountain.

Then to add to it, you get the stroke of luck that you get to move up the draft order AND an extra pick in the early 20s because the AFL wanted to give West Coast a priority pick.

Brisbane are a very well run club, with good coaching, recruiting and development. But they’ve also been dealt a better hand then almost all the other clubs in the league.

There was a fair trade offered, and we’ve posted many times showing precedent for why. Would love to get a reply on that.

Thats perfectly reasonable for a 2 time premiership player.

Really?

He’s a good player and will be a valuable addition.

But he’s a 28 year old, uncontracted, role player. If I’m being generous, he’ll be our 10th best player. He’s probably not even in Brisbane’s best 15.

When has a player of that age and quality ever required a club to include a first round pick as a part of the deal?

Yes, it was a pick slide, but a slide of 5 or so picks is pretty significant at that stage in the draft.

Did you deliberately omit the 2nd aswell

As advised earlier if we had done that deal we would be appearing as the biggest loser in the winners and losers thread clearly

...you really think pick 40 sways things that much?

It should be pick 32.

We don’t benefit whatsoever from all the bullshit that happens to the draft.

The idea that we should be expected to tank our draft plans because for once, Brisbane are on the wrong side of the draft dilution, is pretty ridiculous to me.

he's about to sign at the Lions anyway AH Chee money off our books allows that
It wasn't the point of the post, the poster was talking about using the PSD for Baily which won't happen as Brisbane won't be able to match the offer. Ah Chee wasn't on much with his last contract with Brisbane probably around $400-450K and you've brought Allen on $900K and Draper on around $750-800K both long term.

you would think adelaide supporters would be extremely happy considering theyve convinced themselves theyre getting a dual premiership player for free instead of feeling the need to continuously mischaracterise brisbane's conduct in this thread but each to their own.

"significant"

If the trade happened, 16, 17, 18 would all disappear to bids.

When trading draft picks for the current year, recruiters would already have a pretty clear idea of who they would like to take and what positions they’re likely to fall in. They would also have a fair idea of what pick swaps they may consider doing at various times.

If the player/s you’re interested in has limited interests from the clubs around you, then sliding 4-5 spots is insignificant. But if the player/s you’re interested does have a lot of interest from clubs around you then that slide becomes really significant.

I would imagine, that if it was an insignificant slide, Reid would have done the deal. The fact that he didn’t, tells me they probably have some important plans for that pick.

So again, comes back to my original question. When in the past has a player of similar age, experience and ability been traded for anything involving first round picks?

Even this year, Jack Steele was traded for a third round pick. The Lions were being offered a better deal for Ah Chee then what the Saints accepted for Jack Steele.
