He doesn’t need to be out for the season though, as long as there is someone to place on the inactive list, then you’re ok.
Not how it works. Once on the Inactive List, you're there for the season, barring exceptional circumstances that need to be approved by the AFL. To my knowledge, this has never been done.

I’ve seen enough of Fogerty and Binns to know they’re not good enough. They’re contracted, but I’d pay them out.

L Young and Boyd also contracted. Young is break glass in case of emergency case. Boyd is better than he’s been given the chance to be, but he’s on the outer so we may as well pay him out too.

F***ing Brad Lloyd. Like Soapy said, what a mess he's made with fringe player contracts.
Our regular 23 for the last few years has been our regular 28.

Will Philips, come on down?
Nah. Where the hell would you play him? Not a need, would be a great get for our reserves, but would have too many in front of him for any senior consideration.

I do think he has had a raw deal at Norf. Going back a couple of years, showed enough in his cameos to suggest he had an AFL career.

A few players have failed to come on at the Kangas despite showing more than enough potential on the big stage.

If you’re getting delisted from North you can’t be travelling too well …
On the surface I'd agree however a bit of a deeper look is that Phillips is a 1 dimensional handball first mid where North's young mids are a lot better than their ladder position. Given Phillips isn't as good as them & can't play anywhere else unfortunately for him his cards are stamped

Some of his highlights looked great

Hollands is the strangest one for me. Surely if you were willing to give him away in a trade because of behaviour he would be instantly delisted after trade week. I don’t know what could change in that time. If he hasn’t been by now than surely he stays
Any of Young, White, Binns, Fogarty and Boyd could be delisted and not missed too much. You could also build a case to keep any of them for one more season.
Boyd, good AFL attributes with his kicking and decent runner
Fog is as solid as depth as you could ask for
Binns I always forget how young he is. Only turns 21 next week.
Young and White have only had a few months and have shown something

Without having any knowledge of what Elijah has done, my guess with the hold up is that we are negotiating a mutual exit to his contract and a payout. We probably hoped there would be a taker during trade period to avoid this but there wasn’t. These types of discussions often take some time to resolve as they involve managers and potentially even lawyers.

On the assumption that Elijah has done something very bad, I would think we would have grounds to terminate his contract without a payout, but we’d almost never do it (except in the most egregious circumstances) because it could damage our reputation with managers, players, etc. Better to pay him out the majority of what we owe him and move on if we don’t see a path back for him.

You do realise that when you pay out contracts early that it is included in the cap - so this approach would effectively mean allocated DOUBLE the cap space allocated to a group of fringe and non players?

That’s the perfect way to piss off those who actually deserve bigger contracts.

Yes the contracts are bad but you don’t fix one problem by creating another one - that would be extreme negligence.

You are right generally speaking but for 2026 we will have plenty of unused cap space, so if there was ever a time to do it it’s now.

Carlton FC is officially on notice.
If we play songs after goals starting with Hayward and Florent I’m done.
Carlton FC supporters officially on notice.
If any of you chant USA I’ll hunt you down.
Are you saying we are getting Cox?

The posters potting Walsh for enjoying a pot or two in the off season are beyond ridiculous.

He's the most fastidious, driven player on our list. That he recognises the importance of switching off and having some balance at appropriate times is both a good and mature thing.
I remember at the start of Ball Magnets when it was a joint enterprise between Crippa, Tom Mitchell and Lachie Neale (I think now it's just Mitchell?) and they had one of those social media q and a things and were asked about who enjoys a beer the most and basically the answer was they are all likely to be best on ground on any given night on the beers.

Only 5 Brownlow medals and 3 flags in that group. But yeah let's be concerned.

Pearl clutching over guys enjoying a few beers whilst on holiday is so ridiculous.

I don’t have a rule to go off but I’ve never seen a poster reference what you have said there.

Not saying you’re not right but it seems off.

I did a quick ChatGPT search.

Long term injury list is stated as injuries over 8 weeks and can be replaced via SSP or MSD

Inactive list, for season ending injuries and removal from this list at AFL discretion.

So you were bang on with the inactive list but it appears you can have players on the long term injury list.

Next years draft is supposed to be loaded.. I have no idea, but this is what 'they' are saying... If this is the case and we dont make the 8, should we consider letting Walsh go to free agency and taking the compo. Would give us 3 1st round picks.

I actually think we make the 8 next year, but should we miss, and go back further the 3 first round picks which include Cody Walker allows us a quick rebuild, if you consider
2024 - Jagga Smith
2025 - Harry Dean + 1st round pick
2026 - 3 x 1st round picks (including the likely pick 1)
2027 - 2 first round picks.

The other consideration of course is what Sam Walsh does to us culturally, from the reports he is the hardest trainer and well liked, he will set the standards for Jagga & Cody so losing that could hurt the team long term.

The LTI List was replaced with the Inactive List.
Bletch is right, but google does not come up with the change.

Why would the AFL be transparent about the rules when they can be opaque?

"They" say that a lot these days. Next year is always the super draft.

The only one they probably haven't said that about the last few years was this years, outside of that, it seems like next year is always the draft you want to load up for.
