Grlj has attracted attention all year for his ability to attack the game with explosive pace and agility, dancing past tacklers and breaking lines. These qualities were backed up by an excellent showing in combine testing. Grlj has largely played through the midfield in his top age season but has shown his versatility playing on a wing or a flank in the past and seems likely to start in an outside role while he develops and adjusts to the pace of AFL play.

This kid looks like a star. Love how he always takes off when he grabs the ball and his evasive skills are elite. Think we cant go wrong with this kid.

I like that he plays like that but is still tough and has a bit of K-Hunt in him.
I think Yze would be frothing over him.

If we drafter Taylor with him, our K-Hunt quota will nearly be full.

Not going to be upset at all if we take this kid. His evasiveness and willingness to take on the player is great, looks like the chaos king, only with skill😂😂 And he’s also got some Cotchin traits in his game. Like him as a player from what I’ve seen

Massive cotchin traits. Upside could be even higher.

The Bombers trading up to pick 2 should guarantee that Robey is there at pick 3 as Essendon are keen on CDT.

Maybe the noise about Sharp is a smokescreen to deter the Eagles from sliding back.

Rivals believe Essendon is “obsessed” with Duff-Tytler, who played for the club’s VFL team this year and is also good mates with Bombers Next Generation Academy prospects Adam Sweid and Hussien El Achkar.

A deal had been floated between Essendon and Gold Coast – also yet to be agreed to – during the trade period which would see the Bombers trade picks 21 and 27 to the Suns for pick 15.

The Bombers could then dangle that pick 15 — along with pick 5 or 6 — in front of the Eagles, but even that is unlikely to satisfy West Coast which would prefer a future first-round pick to be involved.

If the Eagles did agree to trade back to pick 5 this year, they could look to players like ready-made South Australian midfielder Dyson Sharp or draft bolter Sullivan Robey at pick 5, instead of Duff-Tytler.

The Suns are happy to move that pick 15 as they chase more points to match expected early bids on Academy talents, while the Brisbane Lions’ pick 17 and Greater Western Sydney’s pick 35 are also up for grabs.

Carlton looks set to hold its position at picks 9 and 11 for now but has held talks with Adelaide around a trade as they look to bank more draft points to match a bid on father-son and potential top-two pick Cody Walker next year.

The Crows have been weighing up trading pick 16 this year and a future first-round selection for Carlton’s picks 9 and 11 this year.

If they were to shuffle up, other clubs believe Adelaide would look at a key forward like Aidan Schubert or a top-10 slider who could have an instant impact next year.

The window for clubs to trade picks is open until November 7, with any further selection swaps needing to wait until draft night.

RIVALS EYE FRINGE BOMBER

Essendon midfielder Will Setterfield will be delisted by Essendon but has strong rival interest, according to the Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph.

Setterfield remains without a deal for 2026 and will be axed by the Bombers so they can keep their options open at the draft.

Essendon could re-sign Setterfield as a rookie or offer him a train-on spot over summer with the view to selecting him as an SSP, but rival clubs might swoop in first.

Setterfield is a big-bodied midfielder who has had his fair share of injury struggles throughout his career, but when fit is a handy on-baller who can shut down some of the game’s best midfielders.

Elsewhere, St Kilda will delist midfielder Ryan Byrnes and then re-list him as a rookie, while Gold Coast’s Nick Holman has hit a games clause and will play on next year.

Holman’s Suns teammate, Ben Jepson, will be delisted but then put back on the list.

Richmond are still weighing up the futures of midfield duo Tyler Sonsie and Thomson Dow, while West Coast’s Coen Livingstone is also without a contract as it stands.

Hate to disappoint, Richmond would pick CDT ahead of Robey if they had a choice of the two.
If Robey was available at pick 3, I think we would dangle it infront of Melbourne who have a love affair with him for pick 7 & F1. With the Bombers if CDT was available we may offer that pick an they would give back Pick 5 & we would request them to source a pick in the teens, giving us a Sharp, Taylor, Grilj scenario.

All the talk atm is X.Taylor & Grilj, or a CDT / Patterson (if Suns don't want him).
If nothing pans out it may be safe bets in Sharp & Cummings only Blair knows and his ship is water tight !!

Where to start

Again rated ?
Rated by who if its the club then yes their talent recognition was flawed if by the media well the media dont get payed to select your player and you shouldnt even be looking or caring

If a 2024 draftee is a bust then for sure its on the club
Fos/Langford/Jagga could all have been #1 we decided to take Lalor and maybe Carlton rated Jagga as 1 so if Lalor is a bust thats on the club as they had the pick to take Jagga

If Sims is a bust and Shannahan become a gun then we rated the wrong player as we passed on him multiple times

Will my rating of 2025 picks be wrong in 2027 if they dont go better. Yeah for sure but im not paid to do the selecting or have the resources to watch every kid every game. The recruiters do so are expected to get more right than wrong

Not sure what you dont get
We seem to be confusing a 'failed pick' with a 'reach'.

Tambling was rated top-5 by the entire industry, and even a potential #1. He was a failed pick, but not a reach. So if ANY other club had pick-5 and Tambling was available, every single one would have taken him.....and failed.

Every club has more 'failed' picks that successful ones in every draft. Because in vast majority of cases there are superior players taken AFTER any club's top-20 pick. So when a superstar is taken beyond pick-20, which happens almost every year, then almost every single club has 'faiied' as they overlooked them, potentially multiple times.

The Hawks list mgt team who took Buddy, Roughy, Lewis and Rioli....also took Beau Muston, Mitch Thorp and Beau Dowler. The Richmond list mgt team that took Vlastuin, Astbury and Rance...also took Ellis, Lennon, Vickery and Conca. Geelong, who are regarded as geniuses in list mgt....get majority of their top-20 picks horribly wrong and have done for 15-years.

In other words....it's an inexact science and you've just got to play the odds and cross your fingers. But if picks don't work out it's almost never a case of a mistake made at the time, it's almost always only ever a mistake in hindsight.
