Brisbane - 9 Finals Appearances (incl this season), 6 Grand Finals and 2 Premierships.
North - 7 Finals Appearances, 2 Grand Finals and 1 Premiership.

Brisbane have been the pace setters of the league since its inception, they have the most wins in the history of the AFLW, but as soon as an expansion club has some success, their supporters have a whinge, what a pathetic group of supporters they have.

How about your club works as hard as ours to build a strong women's team and may be then they will have some more success.

Well, you're right that some clubs have been at the top for way too long. Thankfully the big 3 establishment clubs that only ever lost to each other are falling back to the pack naturally. Melbourne missed the finals last year, Adelaide almost did this year and that will continue, it's just been obscured by this absurdly dominant North Melbourne team who were the ones that broke up the triopoly in the first place, paving the way for other expansion clubs to follow.

The narrative has become that North are also one of those perennial top teams but that's absolutely not true, they started out from a fairly strong base and finished high in a couple of the early seasons with barely any games, but would still lose to the triopoly + Collingwood and Freo pretty consistently and had to struggle to beat others. In 2022 S7 they narrowly avoided a third-straight week one finals exit in Geelong. It's really only since 2023 that they broke out and became a constant flag contender, and that was on the back of a really smart list build consisting of late picks and irish recruits to replace the players they lost to expansion sides. I think a massive factor in the culture now is that they always had to play the top 3 despite being just not good enough to beat them. It made them really, really hate losing and they just refused to show up with anything less than 100% determination to any game, because back then they couldn't afford not to bank those wins against lower sides.

North look absurdly good right now but they'd have to win this flag and the next just to equal Adelaide's flag tally. I think as good as they are now it's basically impossible that they surpass it before the core of this side has moved on, and what they've done is already being closely studied by the rest of the competition as they work to catch up as soon as possible. That's good for the game. It raises the standard and improves the spectacle. I think it's better to let it play out and force other clubs to improve like North have.

Yeah, I wasn’t arguing that North was one of the strong OG clubs.

I think Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide have missed a single finals series each.

Melbourne missed last year but are second again this year, and Brisbane are third. Let’s see if this is just a blip year for the Crows.

Neither North’s nor the OG team’s situations are good for the overall health of the comp, and the AFL are taking steps designed to rein us all back in.

The only reason North Melbourne are under the spotlight is because they're so far above everyone else that nobody can touch them. Other teams have had longer periods of dominance.

While the unbalanced nature of the competition doesn't help draw supporters in, neither will dismantling a team playing the most impressive football the AFLW has seen.

Thats debatable. No one is going to go if they know they arent even a chance. This will be as harmful as anything else done to the comp if balance isnt achieved.

The only clubs I have a problem with joining are the 4 newest.

I really admired how North went about getting in. And that culture has followed through.

The next 4 wanted in. But came in when the talent wasn't there.

But the last 4? Literally reaping the rewards of everyone elses hard work, with the talented girls who took the sport up based off the trailblazers, reaching draft age at the time these 4 clubs came in, they gained access to talented players no one before them have been able to.

I hate how clubs who didn't even want into the league have been handed a free ride over clubs like Geelong/West Coast etc. who wanted a team, are busting their arse, but just entered at a time where there wasn't an abundance of talent coming through.

If I lions were only raided to the extent Norf has been, we would be reaming the comp as well with a percentage of 50,000. And it would equally be a problem.

4 newest? So that would be hawthorn right? I believe that we were denied applications at each expansion (same as Essendon). So shut up with that fake news about "not wanting a team"

Weird that both clubs didn't bid for a spot in the AFLW then isn't it

Kind of feeling now we have 18 teams on where its headed.

And where to next for the AFLW.

Feel its at its peak now.

And what can be done to make it better then it is now.

Kind of wasnt the same since the expansion was brought in either.

Does it need an over haul and a case of start the AFLW all over again.

Can it be done differently and better and fairer way.

More opportunity for all not just a select few.
