Hewetts form the last 2 years has arguably hindered us, for us to have a dynamic midfield we probably need it to be without George.. Other clubs have made harsh calls on players like Tom Mitchell, James Worpel, Matt Crouch despite them being good footballers but not fitting the preferred midfield dynamic, perhaps as Jagga comes into the rotation, Walsh & Cerra are fit it will mean that George gets sqeezed, unless he is playing a lockdown role.I don't think all of Cripps, Hewett and Cerra will be on the list in 1-2 years time. Especially if things go our way.

I think your opening line is more accurate. He offers nothing that tips the scales in our favor.I can see us look to trade Cerra at some stage. Cripps and Hewett, we have a bigger bench now so possibly could spend more bench time there.
I would be inclined to have Cripps play more in the forward half of the ground, swap with one of the half forward after the bounce at times.
I want to see Camporeale play games next season and Lord play more.
Lord was better than Cerra last season when he got the opportunity and the team's performance benefitted from that, so that can no be forgotten despite what injuries Cerra may have been carrying.
Cerra out to a wing is another option.
Reality is what we did to our forward line this year, let a player go for some real currency and bring in a whole heap of new faces. The same needs to be down to our midfield at the end of next season.
I would be all in in regards to Butters and I would be going pretty hard at another. We let go of however many we need to of Cripps, Cerra and Hewett and bust this team right open into a modern AFL side with pace, skill and two way run.
It's well structured. We will get a better look at it next year and we will know more. You might say O'Keeffe lacks experience and is unproven but I like what I see. It may lack an A grade small forward, watch us have another crack at Humphrey. It's so much better structured. It's the sort of forward line that will flourish if we can move the ball fast and hit our targets.Surely, a good coach would be salivating at this. Look at the different types, sizes and X factor options we have
McKay - KPF
HOK - KPF
Young - Back up KPF
Kemp - Third tall
Hayward - Third tall
Moir- Taller and mobile fowd. Genuine X factor
Williams - Smart small forward with good marking skills. Midfield minutes
Ainsworth - Smart small forward that can play effective midfield minutes
Motlop - Get fit and genuine X factor small foward that reads ball well
Cottrell - Defensive forward with good skills
Elijah - Talent but........?
McGovern - great mark and kick. Has the talent to win a game
Evans - Revelation late in season. Good skills, tough and kicks goals
Ison - Young but skills and talent are there. Reminds me on Pendles
Cripps - Can play forward and worries defenders. Mark and create space
Tobyn Murray - Goal kicker from Cats being seriously looked at
Mids pushing forward

It will take a good player wanting to come to us and Cerra being willing to leave. Another who is on a longer contract than he should be. Cerra is another good player but not an A grade top level player who is on an A graders contract at Carlton.I think your opening line is more accurate. He offers nothing that tips the scales in our favor.
A good footballer who excels at nothing. Trade him for needs to another team how needs mid depth.
On a long contract on less money. On far from A grade moneyIt will take a good player wanting to come to us and Cerra being willing to leave. Another who is on a longer contract than he should be. The frustrating thing with Cerra is he should have a point of difference. Hes meant to be our silky onballer. A balanced mid that damages with his skills. Like Pendlebury. But most weeks his disposal is average to poor.I think your opening line is more accurate. He offers nothing that tips the scales in our favor.

Inferior players or just young?
Jagga Moir Ison Lord Chesser (Walker) would argue have talent but are just young
Many internally see Ollie & Wilson as potential mids. Iām not sure. Will we see revitalised Elijah?
The issue is you are arguing more of the same and what have that achieved? Cripps Hewett Cerra Walsh as a group will not win us a flag.
In what is an obvious reset of our side I would be disappointed if we see the same midfield in 2026
Hopefully front loaded. On a long contract on less money. On far from A grade money
Thatās where I see Smith early days forward maybe pushing up to midfield ala WalshIt's well structured. We will get a better look at it next year and we will know more. Voss had plans last year of having Smith forward as well, so he will be a part of that mix.
I meant that they were not regularly selected and spend time playing Sandi and VFLHow were there harsh calls on Crouvh and Worpel? Crouch was always injured and Worpel left as a free agent
When was Worpel not regularly selected?I meant that they were not regularly selected and spend time playing Sandi and VFL
Exactly, with Cripps, Walsh, Jagga and Cody Cerra is a more than handy 3rd-5th mid.. People need to stop thinking of him as an A grader⦠but not many clubs have a 3rd or 4th best mid as capable as Cerra. On a long contract on less money. On far from A grade money
The position on the ladder confirms that more than a few of our players are - in fact - Sh1t.
Worpel has played 24 25 and 21 games the last 3 seasonsI meant that they were not regularly selected and spend time playing Sandi and VFL
If Hawthorn rated Worpel, I doubt he would have leftWhen was Worpel not regularly selected?
Until HOK can string a season together we don't know if he can be relied upon play the role. Simply because of lack of availability rather than ability. It's well structured. The main thing for O'Keeffe is that he can stay injury free but game day his main objective will be that he doesn't allow intercept defenders to take marks.HOK should now be at stage to play regularly. Has been held back and had Hamstring issues. Needs a full pre season and to stay injury free
If he can he should play every week. At worst he competes and now just need the experience. Kid has all the tools and the mental toughness
Like the sound of this Soap. Hope youāre right. Looks like he has a lot of tools, thatās for sure.HOK should now be at stage to play regularly. Has been held back and had Hamstring issues. Needs a full pre season and to stay injury free

Spot on. That's basically all we did with Curnow this year anyway. We barely ever got to isolate him 1on1 against his opponent. He was doing to mule work of "making a contest" and "bringing to ground for our smalls", which is really not what you need to spend $1m per year on. If HOK steps up and plays this role well, it's a massive win.The main thing for O'Keeffe is that he can stay injury free but game day his main objective will be that he doesn't allow intercept defenders to take marks.
If he takes the odd mark, kicks a few goals and is a strong target who can bring the ball down and stop intercept defenders as well as compete at ground level a bit then we have a winner here.
Having a lot of targets instead of just two is how the good forward lines are structured and this will make us harder to shut down and not as easy to coach against.
He doesn't have to be Curnow quality, we have McKay for that but he does have to take a few marks, kick a few goals and most importantly give us a long option and negate intercept defenders.
I am confident in his ability.
Good coaching here is key. Our forwards have been badly coached for a long while now and we have been vulnerable to intercept defenders. One key area of our forward coaching is ensuring player know which player is zoned off and setup to intercept the ball and having someone sacrifice their own game and go to that player. This will be a key part of how O'Keeffe fits into our team.
In general play we will be going to other players and the more mobile forward but when the heat is on and we are going up the line it will be he and McKay who stop the interceptors, take marks and give us strong targets.
Not sure that was our planning.Spot on. That's basically all we did with Curnow this year anyway. We barely ever got to isolate him 1on1 against his opponent. This is the most frustrating bit. We have long prioritised the inside game, but blind Freddy can see that the game has moved past the "Win the clearances / contested ball; win the game".The frustrating thing with Cerra is he should have a point of difference. Hes meant to be our silky onballer. A balanced mid that damages with his skills. Like Pendlebury. But most weeks his disposal is average to poor.
Since hes joined us his inside work has improved, but his ball use has gone way backwards. Hes not alone either. Could say the same for Walsh over the years. Even Jack Carroll. It's like every mid we recruit stops working on their skills and focuses on being a mini Cripps.
"Should" is doing a power of work there. Whether he can play regularly remains to be seen. I will add that I am hopeful he doesn't but it's far from a given.HOK should now be at stage to play regularly. Has been held back and had Hamstring issues. Needs a full pre season and to stay injury free
