Good to see one young batting hope knows where their middle stump is. Perhaps Konstas has been a decoy all along, allowing this young fella sneak up on all n sundry with his batting talents

I went down and watched him this afternoon. I watched him from 40-100 and it was a good innings. The pitch flattened out with the sun and became I decent deck in the end but he still had the right temperament. Left the good balls alone and punished the bad.
 
He's a bit older but it's worth remembering Jack Clayton played absolutely no cricket from 17-20 as he was in the Brisbane Lions Academy. Didn't play 1st grade premier cricket till he was 21. 2100 runs at 38 in his 1st 3 seasons or so of first class is quite impressive considering most players take a little while to get going initially and shield pitches are pretty damn tough in this period. Still plenty of years of cricket ahead of him and he continues to look better and better with every season. His square cuts, pull shots and cover drives are things of beauty.

I hope you are right about Anderson and he becomes a great seamer. He has done well in NSW premier cricket - lets hope he can take that wicket taking form into the first class arena. In saying that, I hope all of these new young guys do well.

From what I heard Straker didnt reject NSW. I was told he wasnt offered anything as they preferred your man Anderson who got a rookie contract for the 24/25 season. This is his second year on the books at NSW. So maybe they aren't as visionless as you think as they did sign him last year and were happy to let Straker go. They may have regretted it a little when Straker ran through their top order in the NSW v QLD Shield game last season?

QLD also have a very good young quick in Tom Whitney - he is a wicket taker and is fast albeit is a bit inconsistent. However perhaps he is just "lucky" he doesnt play at NSW. There was another young quick make his debut for Victoria in the most recent one day cup game - Austin Anelzark. He bowled well...swung the ball at a lively speed. There is also Jack Nisbet from NSW - very tall seamer.

Good signs for 5 years down the track when this bunch of 20 year olds and early 20's guys have matured and had some experience.

Apologies for missing your post cullinan. Esterhysen impresses me too, another off the seemingly endless WA assembly line. But a fit Mahli Beardman has me excited as our future enforcer given he can reach 150 clicks. That is serious pace just what we need to ruffle some Pommie and Indian feathers and unlike some other express guys, he is not wayward. Keep fit young fellar, no back trouble.

Not sure where Nisbet has gotten to, prob the way of Hunar Verma, three time rookie and he was never handed a Blues debut. Who'd wanna be a young cricketer from my state.

I stand corrected re Anderson. Now he is in his second yr as a rookie, selectors need to pull out the proverbial and play him in Seconds soon as a precursor to a full contract in '27. Have managed to catch some Premier footage of him and I see another Hazlewood, similar action and pace with the ability to build pressure in that same 6-8m zone of uncertainty where the batsman is unsure whether to play or not. Wonder if JH has taken the kid under his wing.

Tom Whitney is a rarity in this country, a genuine swing bowler. Saw him last yr in a shield game on one of those very occasional pitches that suited swing and he was virtually unplayable by making guys swing at air. I'd consider him for future England Ashes tours, that is if the ECB bans bazball.

I saw a lot of Anderson in junior reps, he always looked the best of his age in Sydney. I rated him well in excess of Straker who has a giant frame that is in vogue with quicks these days. For mine Anderson had him covered for skills.

Missed him in jr reps but not the Junior Ashes (U19) Aussie leg in Jan,'24 from memory. A star was born, scored handy runs too. Have been watching him in Sydney club cricket since where he continues to impress. There is also another kid in his club, a budding all rounder Addison Sheffiff, a yr or too younger than Anderson but he is just as promising as him at the same age. Along with Riley Kingsell and Alex Lee-Young, finally some serious talent again emerging from my state. The cupboard has been bare for awhile now.

Just as I talk him up, Anderson has gone wicketless, but has close to the best economy. How pleased am I to see Tremmers, Chris Tremain in the attack after missing all of last season with a bizarre nerve injury. Like to know who the scratched bowler is that took three poles. A spinner I expect. Could it be Tanveer Sangha.

Anderson and Kingsell, your Weibgen plus Beardman will likely feature in the CAX1 four dayer coming up against the England Lions too. How is Steven Hogan traveling in PC?. Like the cut of this kid.

Those rules like a certain number of players under x years old are better as philosophical, unwritten rules.

When they tried it as an official rule with the 2nd XI competition it didn't work.

I'm sure states used to be better at forward planning and having your next young batters/quicks coming through. Not through different rules in place, just because they had vision.

Utilising that No 6 batting spot for your best young batter

Anytime one of your main quicks was injured sneak in your best young tyro for a go.

Some states seem to have a nice balance of experience and youth, others not so much

Kingsell is an interesting one, he has been making serious runs in Premier cricket. He plays at the same club as a good mate of mine who has decades of Premier cricket experience and rates him VERY highly.

The VIC state squad is a fairly good balance of young and old at the moment. Results are looking good too.
