Matthew Clarke on Gettable 17/11

Cal Twomey’s Phantom Draft

Addinsall has made his name as an accumulator who covers plenty of ground each time he takes the field. His production as a pure midfielder high-level, as evidenced by his average 32 disposals and 7.7 clearances per three Coates Talent League games this year. He also led all comers in the AFL Academy's second game, against Richmond VFL, exhibiting his ability to rack up possessions in all parts of the ground on that day.

A significant aid to Addinsall's ball winning ability is his running power. He gets involved in transitional chains, able to run in waves and support teammates in driving the ball forward. Further to that, he works hard to get from contest to contest, where he is just as capable of finding the pill. Addinsall's stoppage craft is as polished as they come, showcasing terrific footy IQ in his positioning and crumbing anticipation.

He always seems to shark the ball on the move with one-touch handling. That allows him to carve through traffic and exit the contest untouched, often hitting a slick pass before following up in support. He is willing to go by hand or foot, and uses both sides of his body to execute the most effective disposal possible. It's something Addinsall has worked on this year - driving his legs to become more damaging on the way out.

Being quite low to the ground in his movement, Addinsall is evasive and agile. His spatial awareness and vision make up for a relative lack of explosive speed, with the midfielder instead relying on his smarts.

So basically sam mitchell at 13
Will Aschcroft clone.

A random ode to Matthew Clarke to the tune of Kevin Bloody Wilson’s Hey Santa Claus

Hey Matty Clarke you campaigner, where the **** is Sharp
I’ve looked at all these other spuds and there’s no one that I like
I wrote you a ****ing letter and posted about it twice
You dopey ****ing Richmond fart, you forgot my ****ing Sharp

If I wanted a stupid ruckman type, I would’ve bloody asked
And this half back flank and temu mid, you can shove right up your arse
You’ve stuffed the bloody order up, it’s enough to make you spew
But it’s not just me who’s snakey, SGIO is dirty too

Next time I come to see ya, I’m going to punch you in the guts
And I’ll sack the other recruiting knobs and kick Toddy in the nuts
You just wait 'til next year when you go back to the draft
And me and me little GIO come stomping through the door
And we'll say, yeah, you wait for it

Hey Pyke and Woosh you smell his breath
And check his bloodshot eyes
And don't listen to him eagles fans 'cause he tells ****ing lies
He's just a ****ing useless campaigner and he's not even very bright
'Cause the stupid ****in' w***er, forgot me ****in' Sharp

that's gold!

I am no expert just watching academy kids in VFL. Murray was injured this year but most people value Murray very highly, more than Addinsall. Murray could be another Will Graham.

There will be very limited opportunities in Suns midfield for next 3 years. Good for Addinsall career to go somewhere else.

Personally, I am bit surprised that Addinsall will go in the first round. I guess it's a weak draft.

There is also a strong home factor attached to this year academy kids except Patterson. Those kids grew up supporting Suns, went together through academy and dreamed of playing together for Suns. Be aware in 3 years, haha. If he makes it.

Good luck.

Meh, once he's playing in front of 40k+ regularly he'll be more than comfortable in Perth.

Oh what a rollercoaster of a ride this thread has been for the past few months!

First I hated CDT for not being able to jump high enough. Then I hated Sharp for being too slow. Now I hate Addinsall for being too small and unathletic. And I've never even watched a highlights video of any of these guys.

All I can say is whoever we draft both sux and rules and will be both the best and worst choice possible. Cannot wait.

Yep, if only we had picks 8 & 9 instead of 1 & 2 :(

I think whoever we pick on Wednesday we are going to have to be patient.

You don’t draft players for immediate impact; that’s a nice bonus. You draft them for the players they will be in years 3 and beyond. We also currently don’t have the set up to allow someone to just play a loose flanker role and cover the deficiencies in their game whilst they develop them, like Freo did with Reid this year.

For all the talk about the draft this year- I think it speaks volumes as to the evenness when we will have 3 decent talents come through who will each provide us something different and we will be a bit disappointed to not have picked up a few more.

I’ll be watching with interest a good chunk of this years draft as I think it’s going to have a lot of good quality AFL footballers in it. Very keen to see where Harley Barker ends up with his knee- if we don’t go Lindsay or Addinsall I’d be wanting him.

Look at all you plebs arguing between the plodder Sharp, the man that gravity remembered CDT, or this midget Addinsall.

Real big coast energy fans know we should just pass on our picks. Revisit this post in five years and you’ll know I was right.

Nah we should trade into next year's draft, it's going to be so much better.

I’d love for someone to explain the origin of this joke
Pre-dates my time on BF I believe

Posted on the Hough pick in 2021. Ochre then proceeded to give this tired unfunny joke a rest by posting it on every other pick that was made, and a dogshit meme was born.

It’s beautiful.

Yeah that's it for me.

**** you wce for ruining my Wednesday. I'm not tuning into this crap. I am not an enabler

The happy clapping seals will never admit they are wrong. I mean look at Murphy Reid he won the rising star and we have some seals saying Bo is great success.

**** you wce for the following
1. Making me miss WCE biggest draft haul night OR Taking Dyson sharp but making me miss it because of me not tuning in
2. Dooming this club for the next five years.

This club is stuffed for the next five years. I look forward to the acrobatics when we finish bottom 4 for the next FIVE years and potentially Duursma and Harley leaving the club 2027 together to reduce the hate. I haven't included CDT because he's not going to be worth anything come his request for trade

I might tune in until the names get picked to see if they are Hail Mary trades. The last time I felt gloomy was preseason last year and turns out I was right when we won game. Best thing coming out of the trade and draft peroid is DEV.

So the far more athletic, better skilled Addinsall is not worth a pick at 19 but we should reach on the less athletic less skilled Sharp at 2 because he’s a bit bigger.

Interesting.

Sharp has better disposal, better drive from stoppage, better defensive game and has the size to play at AFL level. That security rightly attracts a premium and he's rightly at the pointy end of the draft.

Addinsall would be perfect for us if he could carry the ball through congestion and kicking was better. But then he'd be off the table.

Zero chance Sharp has better disposal, Addinsall is clear. Very good off both feet within 35M.
Addinsall does the same to a lesser quality.
Addinsall handball game is better and more expansive.

Addinsall is basically Jagga Smith. Same height, Addinsall slightly more built from comparing photos but pretty similar footy attributes

Obviously Jagga was better rated but with so many wanting Jagga last year we cant really turn down what is a slightly nerfed version of him for a lot cheaper

We have a lot of explosive players and players who excel at metres gained as it is.

I dont think its necessarily a turn off.
As long hes not a liability in transition or in defence(which I dont believe he is) he would be fine.

Really glad we arent drafting Sharp, hes way too slow and unskilled at footy to be worth drafting tbh

Addinsall is stronger, higher iq, has a 6 pack, better disposal, better runner, gets more girls, is taller, and is just a better bloke overall.
Easy decision in the end fr no cap
Better surfer too . Don’t forget that
