They just can't afford to be too aggressive at the trade table given they already have all the key pieces in place, so investment should be made in speculative kids to plan for the medium to long term.
They actually managed to do both, by getting back into the draft, and bringing in depth

Maybe a tough ‘26, but placed well from ‘27 onwards

Everyone said Richmond needed to rebuild after 2016 so there is hope. A more recent example is Collingwood in 2021 who apparently had the worst list in the AFL and were going to be screwed for years, look how that turned out.

Yes, they are good examples and blues do indeed have the core of a team that is genuinely finals worthy

This club off season reset could be a pivotal moment

Carlton played finals in 2023 and 2024 so yes finals worthy. Cripps, Weitering, McKay and Walsh is a solid core to build around you just have to hope Carlton are making the right tweaks.

They had an even better core to build around over the last few seasons with Curnow and TDK, and peaked with a 13 win home and away season.

They are nowhere near it.

Their list is more balanced with recent small/medium forward additions. The previous forward 50 setup was Curnow/McKay or bust as they were surrounded by scrubs like Durdin, Fantasia, White and Motlop. It didn't help that Curnow often refused to chase and tackle once the ball was going the other way.

There's that word again.... 'balanced'.

The word that is used when you lose 2 of your best 6 players.

Depending on context.

Yes, blues did lose some A grade talent, however replaced it with players that should blend in well and give other players more opportunity

this is the rebalancing piece, evening out the list profile
