Some boring cricket from the Aussie batters would help (and England batters), such as putting value on your wicket and actually leaving the ball.

Langer, Taylor and Boon were very good leavers of the ball - they knew where their off-stump was. Wasim Akram said that Taylor would let the ball come to him.

Old fashioned and "boring" batting mindset/techniques still and should apply to today's Test matches.

The shot selections from some of the batters from both teams was really poor. Is the deck green - yep. Is the deck a minefield - no.

When India were in England during our winter, they played their way, rather than getting sucked into trying to bat at breakneck speed like England.

Let's just hope those who have tickets for day 3 get their moneys worth, because the lack of patience shown by both sides today was damning.

Stokes is clearly wearing a smart watch. So can communicate directly with coach etc upstairs. And can have information communicated directly to him.

Is that fair play under the auspices of the laws of cricket?
How is it different from a player fielding on the boundary being fed information from someone handing them a towel or drink between balls

Only 71 overs bowled? It's cheating the paying audience
Clearly it doesn't matter when neither side can bat but eventually you will get a draw due to this laziness

Bowling isn’t the issue - it’s never been discussed

Batting is the issue

I’ve high hopes for Kellaway but he’s not ready yet. Renshaw yeah maybe but there’s maybe more than one spot up for grabs.

We don’t have any ready made players in the system, if we did they’d be playing.
As far as openers I would pick Marsh Inglis Bancroft Renshaw before Weatherald

I don’t think the end result will be much different. It looked a strange decision live - i haven’t had a chance to look at it closely but it didn’t look right to me. Trying to retrofit batsmen who don’t open into openers is a disaster. Bancroft has had his chances, they’ve moved passed him and Harris.

What is your alternate batting line up?

Are you aware of the nursery rhyme “Old Mother Hubbard”

Old Mother Hubbard went to the cupboard to get her poor dog a bone
But when she got there the cupboard was bare, so the poor dog got none

We have nothing in the cupboard, none, nada, zilch, zero
Webster did nothing wrong. Renshaw has a test ton and has been in good form.

Marnus opened today anyway so it ended up making no difference.

I’d have:

Renshaw
Marnus
Smith
Green
Head
Webster
Carey
Bowlers

Far better chance at lasting longer than 40 overs with that lineup. At least most of them value their wicket and aren’t past their used by date.

Just pick a few and throw em in after this series who cares enough is enough with the over 30's.

There's never gonna be umpteen guys in their 20's averaging 40 plus in Shield cricket like the 90's to 2000's the impact of short form has killed it.

Why did you put those three first?

What makes you think they should be opening for Australia in test cricket?
The games in Perth and they are all better options than Weatherald Marsh and Inglis are attacking players and have way more in the locker than Jake Weatherald and have proven at Test level what they are capable of. Bancroft should have been picked as soon as Warner retired.

Getting farkin sick of Cameron Green.

I can't overstate how poor that dismissal was. Zero game sense.
There's no way you chose to pick on Green's dismissal when Head and Carey's exist.

At least Green was trying to play an actual cricket shot

Why was he picked ahead of Webster anyway? And what is the point of weatherald?
