A handful of JHFs every year will eventually cure clubs of the thought of bidding on father-sons.

Also, we're forgetting that the whole business barely skirts the restraint of trade laws, and the harder they make it for a kid to get to the club his heart is set on, the more likely things head to the high court.
That's the thing; and I'm guessing if a player goes unmatched, that clubs will bung up the asking price for a trade to beyond their worth, as a way to spite the system.

Given one of our leading problems seems to have been lack of competitive instinct, I’d be pretty reluctant to have Cody do a year where he is not testing himself against the best opposition possible. I just don’t think you mess with the DNA of someone who is focused on getting the best out of themselves.

I’m not saying he’s made from the same cloth as Cody Walker. But I will be interested to see how TDK pulls himself together in 2026 after putting the cue in the rack so early in 2025.

Would we be able to employ him at the club this year? Can he sign with the VFL side? If he has finished school it seems unfair to restrict him.

You aren’t hiding a kid that’s been a top 3 rated prospect since he was 14
Draftees often drop down the order as the underages that didn’t play champs come to the fore.
Sometimes people can see too much of a draftee and focus too heavily on slight weaknesses.
Greeves is a classic example doesn’t run defensively.wTF it’s juniors ,he is staring and he runs a reasonable 2 km. Good coaches will sort that out.
character issues- he co captained the winning u18 Side. Can’t be to bad
Possible no1 to rookie- insane will be the steal of the draft- especially with that rocket

Every year there are kids rated in the top 5 a year out who slide
And kids like Uwland who were highly rated and miss a large chunk of their 18s season still hold their value in recruiters eyes. Unless Cody is going to properly tank his performances on field all year long he's not going to lose the reputation he's built up over the last few years by simply not playing much.

Heard we might get the Goulburn-Murray region with the new NGA shake-up. It's not Bendigo, but considering NGA is all about diversity, Goulburn-Murray is a lot more diverse than Bendigo.
Goulburn Valley league would flog the Bendigo league and they play in the first round of the Country championships next year.

But he can not go number 1 which is all we need. Uwland didn't go 1.

You watch, next year recruiters will start diminishing (slightly) Walker's contributions because he is such top age and a man competing against boys. Then there will be all those closer to bottom age players who have sudden increase in output and recruiters start to fall in love with them and they rocket up the rankings. Anything can happen in a year, Walker could drift down the order.

Fear not JJ, we’ve got our best people working on it as we speak….😀

I went to school with a kid who was in the Australian cricket team all the way through juniors.

Watched him play against Pakistan in an u17 match. Some of the Pakistani players looked like grown men, replete with beards and/or stubble vs the mostly Anglo Aussie team still sporting bum fluff. OK, a reflection of the Aussies physical immaturity as much as the Pakistani players' maturity.

Then we saw a couple of players with babies.
Could have been younger siblings, but the players looked 25yo and it was hard not to think these guys were way over 16/17 and had families already.
