Shaun was a better batsman than Starc, bowling wise most probably in front of him also.
Thing is Starc has actually got better as he’s got older.
To think he’s 35 years old now and still terrorizing batsmen.

Agreed, I wasn’t a believer until that Sri Lankan series that the hosts won comfortably: Starc stood up when everyone else was basically hopeless and was immense. Since then he’s been absolutely fantastic

Aside from the fact they aren't playing the PM's XI game and are turning down some match practice, isn't the entire week somewhat of a tradition with the functions the teams attend in Canberra surrounding the match? So they've turned down our invitations to those events too? Absolute pack of flogs this lot, never wanted a 5-0 **** off more in my life

None of England's players who played in Perth will feature in the 2 day warm up game against the Prime Minister's XI in Canberra starting on Saturday. Might have been handy to play a bit of pink ball cricket after not playing one of those matches since their tour of New Zealand in 2023.
The best part about the bazball philosophy is that you can't be told anything, any observation from the outside (unless your hailing it as the saviour of test cricket)is automatically rejected and the cult becomes even more convinced in their belief.

They're flying to Brisbane on Wednesday, so attending those functions is beneath them.

Adam Collins on Saturday during the Final Word Daily ep with Geoff Lemon: ''If I hear one England player say they're going to double down, or triple down, or whatever it is they say''.

It was this at that point as I was expecting him to say to channel his inner Terry Wallace and say 'I'll spew up!'. Instead, the Hawks nuffy said ''that'll be a true sign that they're ****ed''.

Yep. Even slower with a dodgy back.

I’m not sure I’d stay with Head opening though. Renshaw’s current form is good, Webster’s isn’t. I’d play Renshaw and play Neser at home for Lyon.

I haven’t seen the reason for Neser not playing in the Shield game? Couldn’t get home from Perth in time?
I’d keep Head there and bring in either Webster or Inglis to the middle order. Moving him would be what England would want so I’d do the opposite.

I wouldn’t trust Usi’s back for the rest of the series unless things don’t work out. Retirement game in Sydney the only thing I’d consider him for but probably just get him to retire instead if Weatherald goes well. No point gifting anymore games.

1 nill up and it's so weird how everyone has got their knickers in a twist over baz ball
Its strange. Kind of like the 90s when they tut tutted about uncoth Aussies.
They'll do what they do and give it a crack. Shit Australia basically copied it anyway in the 4th innings and are about to select Travis head to open again.

Returning the favour. Can't say I blame them.
Kept the sport afloat during covid while our disgraceful governments locked everyone in their homes literally 24 7 and the cricket team refused to go anywhere while touring teams had prison style conditions.
They are well with in their rights to tell the pm to **** right off

Are you serious or is this a brilliant troll? England copied Australia to invent bazball in the first place. And who did they get the inspiration from? Travis head. Go look at the ashes before bazball look at head's strike rate. They copied head not the other way around.

Laughable.
McCullum took a bunch of hacks and got them making 500 in a day. That's never been done before. And it turned them from the 8th ranked side to 3rd.
It's a game plan that's served them well all be it come up short in Perth.
England re invented their approach based off Travis head. Now that is a troll

Morrison was PM during covid, genius. What an unhinged rant 😂

Considering Mark Waugh is considered an excellent batsman for averaging a boundary more than 38 for his career, I find that to be a little bit of an exaggeration.

38 (again, recognising that Root’s record has since dropped from that mark because of his twin very low scores in Perth) is not a ‘bad’ average. It’s slightly ‘lower’ than what most people consider decent.
Sarwan averaged right on 40 for his career. Gayle 42. These were decent test batsmen. Sure, it’s a long way off Root’s career mark, but it’s still not the mark of someone who can’t score someone.
Same as a bowler who averages 31-32 somewhere being ‘terrible’ there. No, it just means he’s not great there.
An overall 50.9 average going down to 33.3 in Australia is still a fair drop off when we're talking about one of the greats. It is a relevant criticism and no he's not on his lonesome with that sort of country-specific drop off. His brilliance has been blunted a bit in away Ashes series though and there's nothing wrong with pointing that out.

True. It's what makes it so effective.
Eventually it will run out of steam and the team will be replaced like happens to all great teams but it has overall improved test cricket

Stuart Law made a good point that a Canberra pitch where the ball bounces at knee height doesn't prepare you for a Brisbane pitch where the bounce is higher.

Test averages can be a bit deceiving sometimes.
A lot depends on who you played against and in what era.

And, just as important, who you played with.

After all, it gets a whole lot easier to bat when a bowling group has to deal with 6-7 players they're worried about instead of two.

In Khawaja, reminder to all that we pushed Ponting very quickly. May have been last test of that series but there was no farewell lap.

Did we? Ponting was lingering for a long while, seeing he averaged under 40 for the three years prior to retirement. Plus, he only averaged 6 in that South African series when he was finally pushed.

Punter just didn't read the room the time to call it was the India series when he had those last moments of greatness. Bit like Buddy Franklin going on after randomly getting 50+ goals at 36 years old, sometimes the universe allows for a great player to retire a hero, should they want it.

Well look at it this way. Golf courses are always open.

Firstly, Kawaja is not Ponting and secondly Ponting retired at 37, and Kawaja turns 39 in less than a month....
