Here here!

I'd go even further and suggest he couldn't pick out a football from a row of coconuts.
Leave us coconuts out of this please.

I am proud of my culture and heritage, but everytime I see a Bunnings sausage sizzle I let out an involuntary dry whispery ‘mate’ and embrace my new environment. The ‘mate’ has a double pump too…’ma-ate’. I always buy two in case another mangrove dwelling Fijian is lurking close by and I am expected to share. Thankfully, they are few and far between. The mangrove dwellers, not the Bunnings.

I have been hearing that Collards confidence is through the roof after having out run his boyhood idol in the time trials. Liam is already making an impact.

I worked with a Samoan guy who was the calmest most relaxed guy you've ever met but he would absolutely melt down if he got called a coconut. His eyes would glaze over like he was going to cry and then start rolling back in his head. It turned him into the Incredible Hulk.

I thought it was like a term meaning a black person who was white inside as an insult to someone losing their heritage but to the islanders it seemed like something more serious and SPI specific.

I was a playing A grade coach at a number of clubs in my earlier years and then President of a local club in more recent times. Every club run senior & reserves plus under age junior sides.

You need to stick to watching Soccer if you think Messi is the equivalence of Ryan. AFL is a team game not based around a goal scoring super star. You might recall how many flags Lockett & Garry Ablett won?

Joffa is full of sh*t, he has done probably nothing more than a few audits on communities organisations. I used to love how people would visit the comminity for a few days then all of a sudden become an expert on how funding or assistance should proceed.

I lived and worked in remote central Australian communities for 15 years up until several years ago. I actually worked not that far from where Ryan hails from, so I think I have some idea of what I've raised.

We pursued former All Australian Liam Ryan and as we are now a club with obvious upside he chose to come and play with us.

That is awesome. Can see him doing major damage along with Higgo. Yay club. Yay Liam.

Since he's become a Saint some people chose to complain about the way he speaks, rather than listen to the content of what he had to say.

Now because of a few training sessions some have to deep dive into his history and culture.

And "we all know we only got Ryan because of Nas" .. whatever the hell that means.

How about we let the man play a few games for us and see how he goes.

How about we get behind our new players and show them a bit of support.

I'm chuffed he's at our club. Hope he tears shit up.

It will be about the context and tone it was used in. Samoans are a prickly proud bunch though. If you see him again call him a ‘mangrove dweller’ and see what happens. It will be thrilling.

What people have to understand is that traditional desert indigenous people are very different to urban and eastern state clans.

Liam grew up in the central desert area of WA - Mount Magnet and Mullewa before later moving to Geraldton. He lists himself as a Yamtji / Badimia man whose clans both speak a different language. There is no doubt indigenous people feel a strong kinship, but for traditional lads that only goes so far.

You can see English is not his first language and I would bet none of the other indigenous lads at the club speak his traditional language. Urban or eastern state indigenous lads are very different from central desert people, their cultural and family considerations are poles apart. The club have indigenous liason staff at the club, but the issues faced by the central deserts people will be very different to anyone they have dealt with.

I can see people forming the view he coped in Perth so he will naturally do the same in Melbourne. Perth is 4 1/2 hours south of Geralton and there would be people of his origin about the city, not so in Melbourne. I want to see him suceed, but I have seen so many desert indigenous lads struggle to cope away from family.

I question given our young and developing list, if he is the right player to target for the afore mentioned reasons. Its not like he is a 21yo developing kid who the club think they can mould and help improve. I get the impression there are not many WCE supporters that were sorry to see him leave....surely we have to question why?

The club have pulled all the right strings with their other recruitments, but Im concerned Ryan will be create more issues than he solves. Lyon and the club might believe they can work with him, but I will be surprised if he ever plays out a season let alone his contract term. Time will tell but hopefully the club have some robust clauses in his contract.

Anyway enough on Liam, the club have made their decision lets hope they can make it work?
What a bizarre take.

Even if your position on his lack of specific cultural references in Melbourne is true (and given Melbourne as a whole is a fair bit more diverse than anywhere in WA I’d argue that’s a real stretch of an assumption) you have absolutely no idea of Liam’s own personal motivations.

He’s a pretty involved brand ambassador for an urban street wear company and from what I’ve seen has some involvement in hip hop stuff too. That would seem to be a much more active scene in Melbourne so maybe that’s what motivated him.

In any event he’s well aware of where he’s moved to and made that as a conscious choice so maybe give him a month in the joint before you start passing judgement on whether he’s gonna cope or not.

Yeh I worked with a very proud Tongan man, over beers one night one of our grads called him a kiwi, he politely corrected said grad who replied with “ahh it’s all the same canoe isn’t it”.

Took a couple of us to physically restrain him. Said grad took it upon himself to learn a bit about the difference in culture there after

Again you need to get out and experience life outside of Vic. The majority of Australians have NFI how the traditional indigenous live or their cultures. NFI

Says the guy with absolutely no clue of my own life experience.

Also not even remotely ****ing relevant to Liam and his choices.

didnt think of annual bigfooty leave,i like that, but i might spend it over on some other boards checking out players for keeper fantasy teams with their best 23 for 2026 threads

ive already had a great laugh over at essendon and melbourne

Can we please never see Jade Gresham ever again?

Also need to delist and pay out Gresham.

to think how chuffed the bombers fans were thinking they were getting a very good exciting player & unloading shiel on us for a first round pick, then got gresham and stuck with shiel for two more totally vanila and injured seasons

After Billings and Dunstan, what could go wrong!

Prove us wrong, Jack. Prove us wrong.

Get ****ed Steele.
Get ****ed Richardson.

Joke of a club.

We need to wash the St.Kilda off us.

Is Tom Campbell nobody to you?!?!? 😡🤬
Tom Campbell has been a raging success as we haven't had to watch him play in the seniors, unlike those other two

i do wish Jack all the best

Well FYI .... today is off-season HUMP DAY

Yep its all down hill now to our 1st game of season 2026 ..... there is 195 days between our last game v GWS and our opening game v Collingwood ... and today is day 98 .... so 97 days to go with 4 Ashes Tests and few Practice games in that time frame

The sun is starting to shine that little bit brighter

Happy Off-Season HUMP DAY my fellow Sainters!!

Im Out GIF

Listen guys, have booked a trip down to Melbourne early March to coincide with our first match @ the Gee!
Being one to always be prepared, I have a few questions.

1/ Does anyone know if there is training & if so, what time on Friday 6th March?

2/ I know we haven’t played much at the MCG but does anyone know where the best seats are, or should I go over to the Collingwood forum & ask them?

3/ Probably the most important, where is the best place to have a drink before the game? Being a pensioner, I’d probably prefer one that has $9 pints. 😏

This is true but Liam looks super urban now. It's to like plucking a kid out of a community. He's played 8 seasons already, if a pro football environment doesn't suit him you'd think that he'd have worked it out by now.
