I'm in the camp of Uzzie and Lyon don't play the next test.

What Head did was unbelievable last test and seems to want to bat there again.
Poms wouldn't want to see him open again
Also seems to be a good fit for Weatherold as they have played a fair bit of cricket together.

Webster in for Lyon is a no brainer adds more batting depth which could be needed batting under lights. Can also bowl a bit of spin if needed.

Why take old ,injured and out of form players into the next test.
Perfect time to move on players

PMs XI game this afternoon on Foxtel/Kayo/cricket.com.au (I thought they said youtube too, but maybe I am mistaken?) at 2:40pm AEDT

This is as per the CA website - for those watching on Foxtel it appears to be scheduled on 505, with the WBBL on 501

England may have done the right thing by skipping it, not raining right now but was earlier and again windy as **** (maybe not a bad at manuka as out here) as it has been just about every day for the past six months. Probably better off with pink ball net sessions that trying to acclimatise to Brisbane in this. I mean its not cold or Leeds/Manchester wet, but its craptastic for cricket today.

Uzzie is ancient, and this side is in desperate need of the next generation to replace him, and then eventually Smith too.

I'm of the view that Head should still bat at 5 until every other possible option has been exhausted at the top of the order.
Renshaw has done his time. A promising start to his career, followed by improving parts of his game in the Shield until now, when he feels ready to be given another extended run at the top of the order.

Imagine for a moment that we win this Ashes series with an opening partnership of Renshaw and Weatherald, the two premier openers of recent times in the Shield. If they can both contribute to that then suddenly the next 2-3 years, at a minimum, feels a lot more stable and promising. It also keeps Travis Head in his ideal position at 5, and means young guys like Kellaway (as one example) can continue developing rather than being thrown to the wolves like McSweeney and Konstas were.

And IF the Renshaw/Weatherald duo fails, then bring Head up and potentially replace him down the order with another attacking batsman like Josh Inglis.
I just feel as though right now is the time to try it. England will be their own worst enemy. As a result I'd be happy to take the 'risk' on pushing Uzzie into retirement immediately.

I like the thought process and would be on board. Think if we were playing a Sri Lanka or Pakistan or that ilk that the selectors would likely consider it

But it’s the Ashes and jobs and reputations are on the line depending on results. This group has shown that they would rather play it ‘safe’ and back the incumbents and guys who have done it before when making the big calls. It has generally paid off more times than not as well I guess

Remember Hussey retiring on top, need more like him

We don' need a 39 year old wasting a spot
I couldn't give a shit how old he is. We don't need someone not best eleven on form taking a spot.
If he goes back a level, makes runs, and gets back in the side in three years, fine with that. Highly unlikely as age does take its toll, but if it was to happen and he was best eleven again, fine.

Not mistaken as I am watching it on YT, no longer have Foxtel and cant afford to throw away money on a pay only streamer.

Why isnt left armer Campbell Thompson playing shield, impresses me with his seam/swing skill set . Bats too. Also impressive and obviously less nervous than last nite is Charlie Anderson. Perhaps this pair are future Aussie strike bowlers.

PMs XI bowling unit not taking any wickets thus far
7 First Class matches combined for the bowling attack not including 41 year old Peter Siddle, not surprising. Fingers crossed the rumours of Bartlett, O'Neil, Richardson and Murphy playing them in the Aus A match next weekend are accurate.

PM should have picked a better bowling unit, instead of planning a wedding. :drunk:
