Thinking back to when this started and we kept hearing "All the players have really bought in..."

Yeah, of course. You tell them not to worry about the match situation, never criticise them for playing their "natural game", when they lose there are no repercussions, and tell them their critics are just dinosaurs.

people's issue with bazball is probably more the grandstanding. if they did the same but without the high horse stuff less people would care and more people could acknowledge that a team is laying down their contribution to the fabric of cricket. good deeds done silently, etc
100%

It's like getting blotto at the pub, grabbing a fistful of darts and throwing them; then spending the next ten minutes telling everyone about your trip 20 whilst they tend to their eye injuries.

It works when it spooks the opposition into ridiculously defensive fields and you can then get 5 an over in singles. That's what happened for much of our last trip over there.
I don’t disagree that it works in those circumstances, but I think it also works with the cattle they have available/ are willing to select.

Now, you could make an argument that they have ignored players that don’t suit their playing style, but from what they select this still is their best style IMO

They’ve hand picked this side to meet what they want…yes it’s their best style because that’s why they picked them.

Don’t think it’s going to work on our bigger grounds.

When this turns to shit, and it’s well on the way, who’s left?

Duckett ✅
Crawley ❌
Pope ❌
Root?
Brook ✅
Stokes?
Smith ✅

Their inability to do anything other than go at it at frenetic pace has cost them and continues to cost them. Good players play at about 85%, these blokes have no gears.

Cricket is a game that you never stop learning. These blokes have been coached to stop learning. This has been their best chance to beat us in years, we’ve an ageing team, with questionable depth.

Through ignorance, arrogance and bravado they’ve completely ****ed it up.

I’d expect McCulium and Key to be shown the door and Stokes to pull the pin and sulk for years.

You might end up being correct.

But we're only 1 test into the series and let's face it, the Poms had us on ice at one stage and didn't close the deal.

Good points but geez this Aussie side has been lauded by many as the weakest Ashes side in quite some time. And with Cummins and Hazlewood out in that first test; I mean are their batters going to get a better opportunity than that?

If they lose badly I dare say you’ll be correct. Attacking on difficult pitches can be a good tactic, but you need to have a method to your madness - that’s the current issue facing England.

I do agree sort of that they’ve been coached not to learn, but I think the biggest issue is players that have been overlooked for not fitting their style.

Hopefully some internal doubts are creeping in regarding their approach

Feels like it needs total, 100% buy in to be successful. The team gets swept along with momentum, confidence grows. The equivalent of a front-running football team.

A Bazball-lite approach is nowhere

Those overlooked will get a chance when this turns to shit

That last line sounds like a bad result for cricketing nations who are not England.

Yeah, but is there anyone in the ECB who has the plums and the numbers to say “ We’ve been sold a pup here “ . I would reckon they’re unlikely to do it after an away series loss, even if it is the Ashes, but if they get touched up at home by the Kiwis then questions might be asked. They should beat Pakistan you’d think.

I’m all for them persisting with it. I can’t get enough of watching the Poms crash and burn whilst in massive self denial. Honestly, an under 12s coach could’ve got ‘em home in Perth.

Vs Aus/Ind under Bazball is now 35.2%. That includes 0 series won, 2 series drawn and 1 (soon to be 2) series lost.
Don't give a **** about what their W/L is against the rest. Aus, Ind, Eng should always be stomping the rest. Even then, failed to win a series vs NZ (LOL).

Jun '22 - Ind vs Aus/Eng : 8 wins, 3 draws, 7 defeats. Win rate 44.44% with 2 series wins, 1 drawn series and 1 series defeat.

Jun '22 Aus vs Ind/Eng : 6 wins, 3 draws, 5 losses. Win rate 43%. 1 series win (soon to be 2), 1 series drawn and 1 series lost.

But more importantly is that they lose more tests vs Ind/Aus than the other two do correspondingly. Over 50% against both in the 30s% range. So what have they achieved? They're not unquestionably dominant against the flotsam and jetsam relative to pre-bazball and they're rather shit against Ind and Aus.
