Probably currently and past 2 or so years he has been very good. Prior to that he was just good. Still behind Wasim and always will be. Wasim was a better player all-round too...handy with the bat. So is Starc but again Wasim was better with the bat.

What you'll find is that people get over emotional about Starc and their assessing skills gets compromised because they get emotional thus putting Starc on a higher pedestal than he really should be.

My post was responding to Bradesmaen's description of him merely being a good bowler. He's more than that. Also I don't think you can place too much emphasis on the number of tests played either. Starc surpassed Akram despite playing a few less tests. Doesn't mean much.

Just because they're both lefties doesn't mean they're similar bowlers. Akram went at 2.59 runs an over; Starc goes at 3.42. Starc strikes at 46.71 balls per wicket, Akram at 54.65.

They're different bowlers, who played in different eras. If it's too hard comparing between eras for bats, why is not not equally too hard comparing between bowlers?

It's dumb, and infinitely subject to rose tinted glasses. Starc is a good bowler. Akram was a good bowler. Akram has better stats, but played in an era with larger boundaries, without modern bats, and much less scrutiny on the bloke shining the ball. Starc's teammates got caught doing the same thing, but has a better strike rate and overtook Akram in much less time.
