Going to be interesting who the next one after Cummins is.

If we look at our squad

Lab- dear lord we’d have no reviews after 4 overs every test NO
Head- doesn’t want it
Green- all rounder as captain? Big workload and suspect to injuries
Carey- not against it but not a long term one

Who else is there?

There isnt really any decent options. Carey is the only one I think has any game IQ but captaining is a big workload as a keeper and I doubt he wants to give the gloves up.
Other than that there's a leadership chasm and no great ways to solve it.

Carse is a really good bowler too. Thought he was their best in Perth

He is but I think these conditions will suit Atkinson the best.
We need to capitalise when they bring jacks on to wheel through some cheap overs.

They have a WAY better bowling attack than we do
Most definitely. We are treading water until Cummins and Hazlewood return. If they're both back for Adelaide, I'd have probably taken 1-1 going into that test. One thing's for sure, Doggett absolutely has to be ditched after this test. Our fast bowling stocks heading into the next generation are very worrying.

I watched just about every ball. Crawley batted very well.

Duckett got out to an absolute seed that jagged a mile. Doesn't bode well for your flat deck theory.

And Smith also got clean ripped by one that decked in a fair way.

The pitch is fine. You're just unable to ever give the opposition credit for anything.
So that’s 2 of 9 and one in the first over when you’d expect every new ball to do something.

Number 11 also has 32 runs with limited chances given. The pitch is flat and will only get worse in the sun. If we get the right window in the 4th innings (not batting late in the day for too long) then 350 can be chased

Can imagine McSweeney will be someone the selectors would be wanting to get cemented in the middle order.

At 260 I’d have said even. So they’re a streaky 10th wicket partnership ahead despite having everything go their way?
Someone wrote earlier that no team that has scored 260 in the first innings of a pink ball test has ever lost the game.

Smallish sample size for sure, but if true then a 100% record is pretty compelling.

It'll break up. There were already a few taking off on cracks with 2 days of sun to come. Wouldn't want to be chasing much on day 4 and 5. We'll need to bat big in the first innings and post a decent lead.

Things can look promising if Lance Morris and Jhye Richardson stay fit. England have struggled to keep their bowlers on the park too. Quality bowlers are hard to find and not many countries have had 3 standout bowlers like we have in Cummins, Hazlewood and Starc. We’ve certainly been spoilt but there is always a new crop coming though.

Definitely a skewed stat given most of them would be us batting first at home.

I’ve had a look at a few and the team batting second has more often than not come close to the first innings score with the second innings being the difference.

Youre making the same point I am. They could not have asked for a better start to the series in terms of player availability and when they’ve batted, yet still found themselves well back in the series until 30 minutes remaining today.

Can only play who you are against and at 2/5 they were under pressure a great ton by Root when it counted. The last 45 mins were disgraceful for Aus
