You don't think they'll be making the same case around Tasmania's lifestyle as they do to attract players to Geelong?

One obvious difference is Melbourne is just down the road - but the wilderness of Tassie will be attractive to some.
How many young AFL players are drawn by the wilderness of Tasmania .....very few I'd suggest...up there with those players who want to stay home on Saturday nights and read a good mystery novel ;)

There’s a reason the AFL have given Tassie massive signing on bonuses to recruit players.

I’m not sure how many players will volunteer to freeze their nuts off every winter.

Don’t get me wrong, Tassie is a beautiful spot, but living there when you’re a cashed up young footballer isn’t going to be desirable for the majority. They need to target expats like Jones.

Country Vic players should be their target.

Guys who like the outdoors, fishing, etc and don't mind the cooler weather.

That's what youd have to do in Melbourne to avoid being attacked with a machete

Laverton is much different now than the 80s, even 90s, but at the same time much the same.
The amount of times they locked the base down, due to the assault type crimes going on at the shops over the train lines (sometimes it was to keep us on as we were sick of being told to turn the other cheek)

👍

Spending 2 x 1st round picks now for Cochrane is going to hurt their rebuild

PORT have flittered away too many 1st round Draft Picks ....they need to Draft more 1st round picks, not less
If they lose Butters, they simply go backwards in the short-term .....losing a champion to gain a "potential" good player, with no guarantees

Having 5-6 star players in a team PLUS role players ....is not a formula for success in the modern game, where an even spread of talent has proven a more successful model
They did get JHF and he is nowhere close to his potential. Are Port really heading for a rebuild though? I think they just don’t have the team that can win them a flag, but I feel they’ve done enough to not bottom out.

It’s not even that cold, people think it’s like Antarctica or something. Remember these guys are not going to be training at 730pm like suburban footy players.

It took GC how long to play a final? And guys would actually want to live there.

I can't see this being anything other than turning ugly unless the AFL gives them a gigantic leg up (plausible), I mean concessions exponentially greater than whatever they gave GC and GWS.

Their long term success is questionable, but hey I could definitely say the same about Adelaide clubs...

Presume you live there and are used to it.

I used to travel for work, winters are freezing, it’s not the training, it’s just the living, going out etc when it’s that cold.

If you’re born there you know no different, but for potential recruits from the warmer states, they’d need to be paid a shit load, hence the sign on bonuses the AFL has given them.

Come time to draft, they need to focus on Tassie, Vic and maybe SA. Draft someone from WA, Qld or NSW and they are asking for trouble.

They have too many "middling" players ....their centre FWD & centre BACK is weak

Remember when we had the ace midfield of Roo, Macca, Goodwin & Edwards .....but no forwards to capitalise

The negative on PORT's star midfield is their lack of defensive running .....getting Brodie doesn't improve that weakness ...and the Port defense is not strong enough without the defensive action of a Port Midfield
